"Shall I tell you the secret of true love? [...] Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you'll meet a boy who will learn your favourite flower, your favorite song, your favourite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won't matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart."

Three hours until the first pages of Chapter 3! If you haven’t got it yet and want some reading material while you wait… Chapter 2 is and will always be available for free on Gumroad.
wish i could remember the sheer madness of reading “what do you think my forgiveness looks like, jordie?” “who the hell is jordie?” for the first time
Now I want to know what everyone’s put down the book moment was!
Mine was in CK when Kaz was telling Cornelis Smeet’s little daughter that he’s the monster that lives under her bed and that he’s going to kill her entire family, including her dogs.
Screaming, crying, laughing, threw the book down on my couch and had to take a minute.
that one was… certainly one of kaz’s wilder choices! lmao!
i think the famed bathroom scene and kaz buying inej her ship were probably my two biggest “put down the book” moments of the duology, as well as kaz’s fight in the slat (because for me everything comes back to kanej, really!)

on some level, metaphorically, i am at all times banging on invisible walls begging the universe for an animated six of crows limited series tv adaptation—two seasons, six one-hour episodes per section of each book, with all possible accuracies maintained
it’s missing kanej hours
i truly need to get back to the old fics after uh. two years
one day jesper gifts kaz with a baby crow that consequently gets emotionally attached to kaz, so he has no choice but to let it follow him around, and he incorporates it into his brand as an intimidating barrel boss
at first kaz refuses to name the crow on principle (because it’s not a pet and he doesn’t like it at all), but then he hears nina calling it ‘baby brekker’ and has to fight the urge to commit a violent crime of the murder variety. he promptly names the crow ghezen. nina nicknames it ghezzie. kaz almost throws his cane at her head
even after naming ghezen he pretends to hate the crow’s existence, until one day it deposits a shiny bullet casing in his lap after a visit with jesper (who babysits often). kaz realizes he can use this to his advantage. jesper was only looking to have a bit of fun and mess with kaz. he did not expect it to go like this
ghezen becomes a nightmare and a half to exist around. it steals food off tables. lurks in the shadows of the slat and scares anyone around half to death. flaps its wings and perches on people’s heads. caws loudly whenever nina tries to talk. steals more bullets from jesper and pieces from wylan’s work table.
ghezen specifically, intentionally, leaves inej and all her possessions alone.
nina thinks it’s all over and done with, that kaz has gotten bored, until ghezen starts pickpocketing people off the streets.
kaz is always lurking in the background, a one-man audience for the chaos that unfolds. he’ll swear up and down that he’s not amused, but he smirks all self-impressed at ghezen’s antics every time. whenever he calls for ghezen, the crow perches all calm and prim on his shoulder, ruffling its feathers and looking almost bored
jesper is convinced that’s the end of it until kaz starts bringing ghezen around on the streets. soon enough dirtyhands is associated with a nightmarish crow on his arm, squawking with menace, surely as bloodthirsty as its owner and able to peck someone’s eyes out
