being an educated woman in the culture and country i was born in can be incredibly frustrating. i used to think that i was an equal and my opinions held weight and value. but as i grew older i realised more and more that often, misogynistic men with far less critical thinking skills than me hold beliefs that they are superior because they are a man.

all this stems from how my culture in its essence is traditionalist and is so intertwined with religion. because i am a woman i am relegated to certain roles. i am “poisoned” by western culture. it is not intellect. my ability to question and to rationalize, form educated and informed opinions are just me “straying from god.”

it is incredibly disappointing and frustrating. to be a person who wants to push my people forward but the people in question reject any form of advancement made by the individuals who stray too far from group think.
