"Hoh~ is this really what people consider 'competition' these days?" a disembodied Voice tuts as he observes the strange little game on Dan Heng's phone.
Just a little more and he'd be able to manifest his form. Oh, he sensed that there must be some wondrous stories in the young man's head.
"Back in my day adversaries always had to face each other directly."

There are fine hairs that cover along the length of the tail. They are a bit thicker, coarser hair towards the base but it's hidden under the clothing the rat thiren wore. Not that Sampo would ever show Hugo that much of himself, thank you very much! It was also a bit scaly, like reptilian skin. Though very warm in comparison.
It felt nice. For once fingers don't recoil from disgust. Instead stroking him like he was worthy of grace. Compassion. Kindness even. It makes the thief tear up a little, when was the last time anyone touched him with care? His fingers come up to rub away the tears that threatened to fall.
“Y-Yeah.” Sampo's voice sounded shaky. Trembling as he struggled to get his words out. “P-People just don't like us rats. We're pests, vermin. They hate us before they even get to know any of us.” It was true for the thief, and it was certainly true for the rats under his care. His ears drooped. “When you think of a desirable animal, rats aren't on that list. That's why they're always the first to be tested on. As well as being close to humans, genetic wise.”
Hugo was going to pretend he didn't notice that. Even though he very much did. He had never seen the hollow raider shed real tears. It made him uneasy. Had he overstepped?
"That's stupid."
Sure, if they were infesting someone's house and spreading diseases, that was one thing. But people had pet rats, and with how well Sampo took care of his pack of them hugo imagined they were cleaner than a lot of people's dogs. He knew what it felt like to be seen as a street urchin and nothing else. All of his siblings sans Serena saw him as a dirty pest.
But Hugo doesn't know how to put his sympathy and relation to the feeling into words, so he doesn't try.
Hugo withdraws his arm, taking one of his coins out and rolling over his knuckles to give himself something to do and so he doesn't have to look at Sampo's upset expression. He doesn't like seeing him upset. Why?
"Thirens are people, they should get over it. When I was younger, I always thought it would be so useful to have a tail. An extra limb to grab stuff, or at least nudge things with, or distract people when on a heist."
And use as a teddy bear to hug or as a blanket.

"Physically, it would be easy, but our ability to mold flesh requires some of said material to be consumed. There is also the matter of learning how to play the part accurately. Just because one can don the face of another does not mean they assume their personality in an instant. For example, I could turn into a perfect copy of you visually, but your skills and mannerisms are lost without practice.
"There is also the matter of those seeking easy monetary gain through use of soulless generation of material, fueled on stolen property. I would call that cheating. The other complication is that Almutians have no need for monetary gain when we could also just create the physical currency in an instant."
Needless to say, the Tetriarch and Almutian's that resided in the Cycle Paradigm carried were not a big fan of capitalism.
"Huh... You make some very good points!"
Alright, consider his mind changed. The limitations settled his concerns. Actors wouldn't lose their livelihood just yet.
"Wait--if you could turn into a perfect copy of me... could you... theoretically, pretend to be me and attend meetings in my place?"

Perhaps it is the sudden change with his lightning that effects the pressure in the air. Perhaps it is the monster's connection with it's master… but the situation that Jing Yuan now finds himself in is perhaps worse than if it were just the creature carrying him back.
The earth beneath them is trembling. And despite the serenity of the world around them - the open air - the sound of their steps are like a clicking heard in reverberating corridors.
“ You're so cute… struggling like this… ”
Eros' voice is a wistful sigh as they approach, watching the former general's pitiful attempt at running away. It's almost funny. It would be funny if it weren't so utterly annoying.
A snap of their fingers and the creature has released Jing Yuan - only to drop him into a cage mage of the earth beneath his feet. One where the vidyadhara now circles him like a vulture circles prey.
This is not their precious husband, after all. Not the version of him that they have so lovingly created. The version that is so perfectly theirs. This is the version that thinks them a monster. An abomination. A shame, they think, because they had always been this way. They had simply not known it before.
“ I wonder how badly I have to crush you to get my darling back. I'd really hate to break your body down again… even if you love it when I fix you back up~. ”
They stand in front of the cage now, face inches from the bars. Their own mismatched eyes stare deeply into his, head canting to an unnatural angle as their smile widens across their features. Its edges stretch past what seems human.
“ I suppose that punishment will certainly match the crime… given you tried to leave me. A shame that I like how we match… otherwise I'd take your eyes completely. ”
It is difficult to harm a creature that is a mass of undead flesh. Yet Jing Yuan still tries, until his energy is spent and he cannot call forth any more lightning. The earth tremors. Like a hungry maw.
They're coming.
And he had no way to explain this away. He had to get out of here. If they got their hands on him--
With a yelp of surprise the former general is suddenly freed, only to be dropped into a new trap. The second he hits the floor of the cage he hurls himself into the bars yet they do not budge. The opening he was dropped through has already been sealed shut.
Reeling from the impact, he stumbles back and falls to his knees.
Eros was going to kill him for this. No, worse than that.
"I've told you already, that is not truly me. You know that."
A shiver runs down his spine. In fear or excitement? No matter what torture lay ahead of him, his darling savior would make it all feel better--
No!
Yet as much as Yuan tried to ignore it, even he could tell that he had long since grown hooked on the healing touch of the emanator.
"Please Eros, come to your senses. I tried to leave because you're keeping me here against my will."
Was there anything of his friend left in there? Jing Yuan knew he was playing with fire, but he had no weapons left but his words and his mind.
"You know this isn't right. Please."
The weapon vanishes and Paradigm flinches back. A strange ability of the tall man before them. There is a soothing gentleness to his voice which just affirms Paradigm's initial impression: an experienced warrior knew when to be kind and when to be cruel. They look the general over again and assess the feeling of the situation.
Calm... more relaxed than before.
Their posture falters as they slink to the ground. Not having to flee for their life, nor fight is reason to relax the faux muscles. Paradigm is exhausted, and they can show it now that a semblance of peace has been brokered.
"...yes." They answer to his question, head bowing slightly as they look downwards to the ground. "I am very weak. I have not eaten in a long time."
Whether the General was being truthful about that promise - and he would be sorely mistaken if it was a deception - Paradigm was choosing to trust and believe in the kindness of another. Even if such a thing had failed them before.
"My... sustenance is... strange but I would accept... most anything." The benefits of breaking anything consumed down to it's base components.
Alright, good progress. They didn't seem to think he was about to stab them in the back at least.
"I'm sure we can find something that will suffice. You can tell me the details on the way out of here."
The general takes another slow step closer, dropping to a knee he holds out his hand to offer support.
"Here, I'll help you walk--if you're able and that's alright with you."
When living on a ship with foxians and vidyadhara, diet restrictions were commonplace. There had to be something Paradigm could eat, right?
"You can tell me more about what you can and can't eat on our way to the nearest Cloud Knight base."

Even with the way he spoke, Shoi-Ming had learned to understand how he meant them. These words of comfort… they really made the smaller feel warm inside.
Though – his next instructions have their nerves all the more apparent.
Suppose that was how sparring went.
The Mons Grandis gives a small nod before taking in a breath. Steady as stone, right? Hard to rememeber when they were trembling like a leaf. Deep breath… and a slam of their foot against the ground to bring up a mass of rock before they're hurling it forward with the movements of their hands.
"Vidyadhara are resilient, High Elders especially so."
They weren't called scions of Permenance for no reason.
Dan Feng does not drop into a stance of any kind, he would let Mons Grandis come to him, though this was also in an attempt not to intimidate them further. Clearly, they were already tense.
Quick as a flash, Dan Feng raises a hand, summoning a blast of condensed water to split the earth apart and scatter it into small pieces around him.
"Good, now don't let up--"
Now, with a sweeping motion a decent-sized wave forms and is shot, rocketing toward the other High Elder. Both attack and defense were important of course. Dan Feng wanted to evaluate Shoi-Ming's skills in both.
Loud giggling can be heard from the garden, mixed with the loud thumps of big paws hitting the ground. The sound noticeable before the duo is visible, the young boy on top of his faithful steed.
Seeing Jing Yuan, little Yanqing releases the mane he's holding onto and waves, almost falling off in the process. Thankfully, Mimi feels it and move with him, helping him to retain his balance.
It all goes fast and Yuan is pounced on within seconds by both lioness and son, one hugging him, the other licking him. Both clearly happy he is home for the day.

Finally home. Jing Yuan hears his family before he sees them. Mimi gallops in with Yanqing on her back.
"I'm ho--oof!"
Though no real harm is done as he's knocked to the floor while laughter bubbles out of him.
"It's good to see you two! Did you have a fun day? Heheh, you'll have to tell me all about it over dinner!"
And in this moment, his heart was full. All he needed was one boy and lion around him, smiling and happy. It completed him.
Stelle would like to give Mimi a treat on the end of a very long stick.

She doesn't bite! (At least, not to people who are friends with her Papa.) But she will still gladly gobble up the treat on the stick regardless of the trashcan-smelling human.
After scarfing it down, she licks her chops, very pleased with the taste, purring her thanks.
"a yuan" blade's breathing remained accelerated, his face flushed while he continued lying on his desk. the general was on top of him, touching his face with great tenderness. a love that the hunter took a long time to understand, with his heartbeat quickened by anxiety. what would have been a normal visit to exchange ideas ended up creating a unique atmosphere where blade was guided to lie down, amidst so much of his friend's work. he apparently didn't care about the responsibility or whether yanqing would open the door to announce an emergency. however, the white lion seemed paralyzed ——— an admiration of his beauty or hesitation about the romance? the only sound was their hearts pounding, and blade raised his hands to touch jing yuan's cheeks. he spoke with surprising calm.
"kiss me."
jing yuan... in reality, all of this was a dream. it didn't actually happen.

How did he get in this situation? Jing Yuan wondered idly, but his mind was elsewhere, more focused on the person before him. Dimly, he thought it was quite uncharacteristic for him to do something like this, even if no one was around but them at the moment. The paperwork could be dammed, but what if someone came in? He couldn't be caught fraternizing with a wanted criminal of the Xianzhou, much less--whatever this was they were doing.
Yet Jing Yuan does not move to climb off the Stelleron Hunter. No, his hands caress Blade's face so gently, as if the divide that had been wedged between them over the years had never forced apart their bond. As if all he wants to do his bury himself by Blade's side and hold him for hours.
The blush on Blade's face is reflected in Jing Yuan's. The Hunter feels warm and homey to him despite the anxiousness thundering in both of their hearts. What was he doing? What were they doing?
The order from the other man startles him.
"What--"
His own shout rouses him from his dream, causing him to jerk awake and disturb Mimi. The lioness quickly crawls over to him, sniffing at him curiously due to the outburst.
Dazed, Jing Yuan squeezes his eyes shut, trying to recall what just happened as the haze of the dream was already leaving. He was... Blade was lying beneath him and...
How the hell did that situation get conjured up in his mind? Blade didn't see him like that. Or at least, he didn't think so. Jing Yuan had never really thought about it.
He didn't, right? Or did he?
