RANCOR RIDERS

I had been reading up on Rancors in the Wildlife of Star Wars and in it, it said they were known from Dathomir, where the Night Sisters rode them so sort of went from there.

I call it Living Paintings, as they are recreations of extinct animals that some artists actually saw and painted from memory, a long time ago.

A is for Anzu

I've a hankering to do a dinosaur A-Z, full colour, straight up, nothing fancy, so thought I'd start at the obvious place.

It's a spring dawn and, in a blooming Hell Creek meadow, a young male Anzu's mind turns to love.

Gas Giants

A3 markers, pencils, pastels

A pod of purrgils slumber in the thick clouds of a gaseous moon orbiting a Jupiter-like gas giant. They are illuminated by the cool light of a nearby ice moon.

This was done purely for fun after the appearance of the purrgils in the new Mando series. This was obviously inspired by images sleeping sperm whales that hang mid-ocean.

A Lazy Afternoon

A2 (420 x 594mm) private commission

Acrocanthosaurs have eaten their fill of a herd of sauropods killed in a flash flood during a river crossing. Replete, these usually solitary theropods (speculative...) are content to endure the presence of others, and don't even mind dromeosaurs (Deinonychus) putting their taloned feet up on them. A terrestrial croc, Tarsomordeo, trots by while a pair of the neoceratopsian Aquilops (lower right) enjoy a bit of nervous scavenging.

This was inspired by scenes of polar bears scavenging dead whales where the usually lone predators will gather in large numbers.
