“Why are people STILL on Twitter?”

No, you’re right, it’s super easy to just leave any/all friends, acquaintances, fandoms, readers, viewers, listeners, customers, and communities over there. Don’t waste time trying to figure out where everyone’s going, just delete your account and hope you figure out how to use five other services pretty quick.

Side note: If you’re here, you don’t NOT have a need for a “microblogging” site like Twitter. Tumblr will never replace Twitter. I mean that as a compliment. As fast as the memes move, Tumblr is still slower (imagine how fast a feed of single sentences moves), more pensive, funnier, loopier, allows for longer and richer posts, has actual lore and a personality, feels like a community unto itself. You can’t replace hang-gliding with deep-sea diving. And I think it’s okay to mourn that you can’t hang-glide anymore because a loser bought the rights to control public airspace.

Shaun frowned as he looked over at her. “ What happened to your paintings?” He asked.

“So, um….” Ace blinked rapidly for a second, trying to remember what she had wanted to say.

“ Yes?” Shaun asked, looking over at her with a smile, uncertain of what she was going to ask.

She made a frustrated noise, “I forgot.”

Shaun made a note of the frustrated noise. “ It’s okay to forgot things, I forgot things sometimes.”

Ace smiled at him and tucked her hair behind her ears, streaking paint across her face by accident. “Oh shoot! I didn’t realize that I had paint on my hands still!”

Shaun awkwardly smiled at him and ran his hand through his hair. “ Does the paint stain if you do not wash it off?” He asked, not certain about how paint worked. “ Do you need my sink to wash the paint off?” He asked.

“It’s okay, it shouldn’t stain,” Ace laughed a little.

Shaun smiled. “ Well as long as it doesn’t stained. What’s funny?” He asked.

“You’re the only person who’s ever been concerned about my paint staining anything,” Ace explained with a smile.

Shaun looked over at her with a smile. “ I am very surprised that nobody else seemed concerned about that,” he said to Ace.

She shrugged and tucked her hair behind her ears again.

She shook her head. “No. I don’t usually like talking to people.”

Shaun paused and thought about it. “ Not talking to a single person or multiple people?” He asked.

“Um. Both, sort of,” she answered, “I was bullied a lot in school so I usually have problems when I’m speaking to people.”

Shaun looked over at her. “ Well, it does seem that would make it difficult to talk with people. Is it everyone or just certain people?” He asked.

“Mostly everyone. Sometimes I’ll meet someone that I can talk to without that many problems. Kind of like you, actually!” Ace admitted, “you’re really easy to talk to.”

Shaun still wondered why he was so easy for people to talk too. All he did was speak honestly and openly. “ Is there a reason why I’m so easy to talk to you?” He asked curiously.

Ace shrugged and scuffed her shoe against the sidewalk. “I dunno. You just… are.”

Shaun looked over at her and shrugged. Maybe he never would. “ Okay, I guess that makes sense.”

“I just. I like you. So that’s probably why,” she admitted with a sudden burst of confidence.

Shaun looked over at her before he decided to ask. “ Like me as a friend or as more?” He asked, slightly confused.

Ace started stammering and blushing bright red, embarrassed she’d been caught so quickly.

Shaun was very confused by her reaction. Did this mean she liked him more than a friend? “ I don’t understand your reaction.”

“If- if I say more than a friend and the feeling isn’t mutual, can we pretend we didn’t have this conversation?” Ace asked, her voice squeaky.

“ I don’t think that is a healthy coping mechanism, but sure,” he said, not knowing if she was telling him that she liked more than a friend.

“Okay, well there’s your answer. I like you as more than a friend.” She admitted quietly.

Shaun paused before he looked at her. “ I do feel the same way… but I feel the same way about someone else too, a guy,” he said, looking down at the floor.

Ace blushed bright red. “Oh. I- sorry. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.” She mumbled, stepping back. “I’m- I’m gonna go home now and work on your painting.”

Shaun looked down at the sidewalk some more. Just a few days ago, he hadn’t even considered a relationship and now here he was with two people liking him and him liking them back. “ Okay, maybe we can talk later…. I do like you too,” he repeated again.

Ace nodded and slowly walked back to the apartment building, choosing to take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Shaun didn’t know what to say as he headed back up to his apartment, taking the elevator and waiting for Ace to come to his room.

Ace painted for hours, not really sleeping. She wouldn’t have been sleeping anyways, not with her nightmares being as bad as they were. When she finally finished the painting she knocked on Shaun’s door, looking half asleep and sporting random paint splatters in her hair and on her face, neck, and arms.

Shaun tinkered with the drawer in his apartment, as it had started to squeak again and he couldn’t sleep while he did that. He took a deep breath and looked over for a brief moment and answered the door. “ Is the paint in your hair mean you are done with my painting?” He asked, noticing that she looked tired. “ Are you tired?”

Ace held the painting up with a triumphant smile. “Yes I’m done with the painting!” She answered. “And yes, I’m very tired, but I haven’t been sleeping much anyways so it’s okay!”

Shaun smiled back at her. “ It didn’t seem you too long to make it. It might be good to try and get some sleep then. Maybe sleeping somewhere else will help you with that,” he said, gesturing for her to come in.

“It took fifteen hours,” she admitted. “I don’t wanna impose. I just wanted to get your painting to you.”

Shaun had actually lost track of time at some point, so he hadn’t realized it had been fifteen hours. “ You would not be imposing to come in,” he said to her.

Ace chewed on her lip for a moment before she stepped into the apartment. “Thank you,” she murmured.

Shaun made a note that she chewed her lip. “ You are most welcome,” he said, moving his screwdriver into a drawer, he would deal with the squeaky drawer later.

Shaun frowned as he looked over at her. “ What happened to your paintings?” He asked.

“A little, I guess,” she answered.

“ That’s good. Have you ever thought of going to therapy?” He asked.

She shook her head. “No. I don’t usually like talking to people.”

“Whatever type of sandwich you want. I was just going to have a bacon grilled cheese and some soup. Is the hugging okay? I know you hate touch normally,”Logan spoke softly with a snuggle.

“I’m glad I could be of help then. I worry when I see you all just running on coffee,”Logan admitted as he reached for his bottle of water.

Shaun looked over at him with a smile. “ Yes, it will be good to not be falling asleep as soon as I get home. Coffee does seem to have a crashing point,” he replied with a smile, running a hand through his own hair.

“Whatever type of sandwich you want. I was just going to have a bacon grilled cheese and some soup. Is the hugging okay? I know you hate touch normally,”Logan spoke softly with a snuggle.

“Thanks Shaun,” Logan smiled before he thought about lunch and glanced down at the clock on his phone. “About twenty more minutes or so. Are you getting pretty hungry?”he asked curiously with a small chuckle.

Shaun looked over at him for a brief second. “ Just a little bit hungry, I hadn’t expected it to take so long and I didn’t have much other than the pancakes,” he admitted, not remembering the last thing he ate before the pancakes were.

“I’m sorry. I must’ve kept you here for much longer than you anticipated being here. The last thing you ate before breakfast must’ve been the pizza I ordered last night,” Logan apologized as Claire brought in their sandwiches with a smile.

Shaun had to think about it for a minute. “ You know, I don’t remember if I had any pizza with helping you to make tea and then helping you to arrive here. I don’t even remember if we ever got the pizza,” he said, happy to see the sandwiches.

“Oh my gosh. Now that you say that, I actually don’t think we are anything last night. I’m so so sorry,” Logan apologized as he handed Shaun his sandwich before he took his mask off to take a drink of water.

Shaun paused now, looking at the sandwich and taking a bit of it. He suddenly remembered something, he hadn’t eaten in a full three days. “ Logan, can you pass me the drink I got?” He asked, trying to pace himself with the sandwich.

Logan looked up from his sandwich with a nod before he handed the beverage over to Shaun with a kind smile. “Here you go. Is your sandwich good?” he asked curiously as he paused to take another drink of his water.

Shaun looked over at him as he took the beverage and smiled. “ The sandwich is very good, especially since it is the second thing I had today after forgetting to eat,” he said, taking a sip of his drink, happy that he wasn’t entirely lying.

“I’m glad you’re eating. It always worries me when I see the other residents trying to survive on just water and coffee. I had a massive caffeine headache the last time I tried to do that,” Logan admitted with a wrinkle of his nose at the memory of being curled up in the on call room with a migraine.

Shaun decided to not mention that he had done that on several occasions more than he cared to admit. “ It’s all about pacing yourself if you are going to survive on coffee and water. Also, sliding one of those cookies in the break room helps,” he said, admitting that he probably knew more about not eating then you would think.

Logan listened to Shaun’s words of advice with a nod before a small frown appeared on his lips. “You know a lot about all this. How often do you go without eating?” he asked in concern, making sure to keep his voice gentle and non judgmental.

Shaun paused and counted in his head before he went back to Logan and paused. “ A few days, usually about 1 to 2, generally about on-t- t- four times a month,” he said, looking over at him. He knew he should probably have lied, but he trusted Logan.

“Shaun, that’s very dangerous. You know that you need to eat in order to do well in your work,” Logan scolded him lightly as he glanced over Shaun his face filled with concern for the other surgeon.

Shaun paused and thought about it for a second. “ It’s okay, I usually am fine afterwards. I’m trying to break it, but it’s hard. I did it in medical school when I was studying hard and it carried over,” he said.

“Maybe we could start eating lunch together a few times a week and I could have you over for dinner too. I’d feel a lot better knowing that you were eating more,” Logan offered with a shy smile.

“ That might be a good idea and dinner would be nice. I don’t get a chance to make much for myself and don’t keep the fridge stocked,” he said, smiling back shyly. He didn’t know what to say besides that.

“Great, it’s settled then. Plus I enjoy cooking, and it’s really nice when you have another person to cook for,” Logan smiled in content at how easily Shaun had agreed.

Shaun smiled back at him. “ I am happy that we have settled on it then. It feels good to not have to worry about eating,” he said, happily. It was a good thing they agreed though.

“Whatever type of sandwich you want. I was just going to have a bacon grilled cheese and some soup. Is the hugging okay? I know you hate touch normally,”Logan spoke softly with a snuggle.

“Thanks Shaun,” Logan smiled before he thought about lunch and glanced down at the clock on his phone. “About twenty more minutes or so. Are you getting pretty hungry?”he asked curiously with a small chuckle.

Shaun looked over at him for a brief second. “ Just a little bit hungry, I hadn’t expected it to take so long and I didn’t have much other than the pancakes,” he admitted, not remembering the last thing he ate before the pancakes were.

“I’m sorry. I must’ve kept you here for much longer than you anticipated being here. The last thing you ate before breakfast must’ve been the pizza I ordered last night,” Logan apologized as Claire brought in their sandwiches with a smile.

Shaun had to think about it for a minute. “ You know, I don’t remember if I had any pizza with helping you to make tea and then helping you to arrive here. I don’t even remember if we ever got the pizza,” he said, happy to see the sandwiches.

“Oh my gosh. Now that you say that, I actually don’t think we are anything last night. I’m so so sorry,” Logan apologized as he handed Shaun his sandwich before he took his mask off to take a drink of water.

Shaun paused now, looking at the sandwich and taking a bit of it. He suddenly remembered something, he hadn’t eaten in a full three days. “ Logan, can you pass me the drink I got?” He asked, trying to pace himself with the sandwich.

Logan looked up from his sandwich with a nod before he handed the beverage over to Shaun with a kind smile. “Here you go. Is your sandwich good?” he asked curiously as he paused to take another drink of his water.

Shaun looked over at him as he took the beverage and smiled. “ The sandwich is very good, especially since it is the second thing I had today after forgetting to eat,” he said, taking a sip of his drink, happy that he wasn’t entirely lying.

“I’m glad you’re eating. It always worries me when I see the other residents trying to survive on just water and coffee. I had a massive caffeine headache the last time I tried to do that,” Logan admitted with a wrinkle of his nose at the memory of being curled up in the on call room with a migraine.

Shaun decided to not mention that he had done that on several occasions more than he cared to admit. “ It’s all about pacing yourself if you are going to survive on coffee and water. Also, sliding one of those cookies in the break room helps,” he said, admitting that he probably knew more about not eating then you would think.

Logan listened to Shaun’s words of advice with a nod before a small frown appeared on his lips. “You know a lot about all this. How often do you go without eating?” he asked in concern, making sure to keep his voice gentle and non judgmental.

Shaun paused and counted in his head before he went back to Logan and paused. “ A few days, usually about 1 to 2, generally about on-t- t- four times a month,” he said, looking over at him. He knew he should probably have lied, but he trusted Logan.

“Shaun, that’s very dangerous. You know that you need to eat in order to do well in your work,” Logan scolded him lightly as he glanced over Shaun his face filled with concern for the other surgeon.

Shaun paused and thought about it for a second. “ It’s okay, I usually am fine afterwards. I’m trying to break it, but it’s hard. I did it in medical school when I was studying hard and it carried over,” he said.

“Maybe we could start eating lunch together a few times a week and I could have you over for dinner too. I’d feel a lot better knowing that you were eating more,” Logan offered with a shy smile.

“ That might be a good idea and dinner would be nice. I don’t get a chance to make much for myself and don’t keep the fridge stocked,” he said, smiling back shyly. He didn’t know what to say besides that.
