Omg so apparently some christians are boycotting Leviticus because it’s “anti-christian slop”. This is simply not true and if you interpret this movie that way then you aren’t media literate.

This movie is an allegory for conversion therapy, most of which IS run by Christian organizations. This movie does not intend to villainize Christian people or demonize religion as a whole. Is simply exaggerates many of the Christian elements to show how suffocating an extremely conservative environment can be to someone who does not belong or share their beliefs. The ceremony itself (involving the choking and suffocating and bomiting and writhing) is just a physical manifestation of the pain that conversion therapy causes to queer people, since it literally doesn’t work and causes intense trauma to those who undergo it. The rest of the movie including the entity n stuff draws on this conversion therapy “they want us to be scared”, the entity representing everything that naim was scared of. Not being able to control this feeling, being hurt by this feeling, nobody understanding him when he describes this feeling. The movie is so good and im obsessed with it and obviously you don’t have to like the movie. I’m just sick of seeing “anti-christian slop” to completely invalidate how good of a movie it is just because some people want to victimize themselves.

I've never been 100% behind the jackieshauna byler agenda, but it kinda baffles me when people say that jackie is Will. Like she's wealthy(or at least richer than most of the yjs), the team leader who's in a hetero relationship she just doesn't seem comfortable in, needs to feel needed and feels useless in their current situation. She also struggles to acknowledge her own privileges, and runs her mouth over the tiniest things. Jackie is passively(and actively) suicidal and can't express herself when it's needed most. Sounding familiar?

shauna and nat have macbeth potential when you think abt it.

the thing about shauna and nat is they're living macbeth's central problem of will versus fate, except they've switched the traditional roles and neither of them wanted it this way.

nat gets the crown—gets chosen—and it sits on her like ill-fitting armor. she's macbeth without the ambition, thrust into prophecy's spotlight when all she wanted was to disappear into the woods' anonymity. there's that haunted look she wears after the cards, the way she holds the role at arm's length. the tragic irony is she embodies what macbeth could never grasp: power as burden rather than prize. she's the reluctant sovereign, practicing sartrean bad faith by pretending the choice wasn't hers when deep down she knows every decision in that wilderness was freely made.

shauna though. shauna's lady macbeth with full self-awareness, which makes her infinitely more dangerous. "don't be such a fucking saint" she tells nat—that loaded accusation revealing everything about who shauna knows herself to be. because she said it in the pilot, didn't she? "i loved the saints. they're so tragic." she's always understood martyrdom as performance, sanctity as the ultimate tragedy you choose. she sees through nat's reluctant nobility as another costume.

the philosophical weight here is heideggerian authenticity—shauna owns her dread, her violence, her desires. she's not sleepwalking through murder; she's wide awake. when she looks at nat wearing the wilderness crown, there's that flicker of something like hunger mixed with protectiveness. lady macbeth whispering "screw your courage" but this time it's complicated by want that has nothing to do with ambition.

the wilderness itself becomes fate's mechanism, but unlike macbeth's heath, it doesn't just predict—it demands participation. and here's where shaunat rewrites the tragedy: shauna would have taken the dagger willingly. nat's the one who ends up holding it anyway, destiny's cruel joke. the potential lies in that tension—shauna's radical authenticity meeting nat's existential refusal, both of them covered in the same blood but wearing it completely differently.

what macbeth couldn't imagine: the one who craves power standing beside the throne instead of on it, devoted to the sovereign who never wanted sovereignty. the hand that steadies and the hand that pushes. "come, you spirits" except shauna never needed to call them—she already knows what she is.
