“You won’t be itchy soon, sweetheart. And we can put some cream on them now to make it feel a bit better.”

“Otays, mama. Me and Freckles is goings to cuddles and talks abouts stuffs.” Avi tells her, watching as she heads into the kitchen. She talks quietly to her stuffed animal for awhile before quietly slipping off the couch and into the kitchen. “Mama? Me and Freckles scareds.”

“Alright, you guys have lots of fun.” Shay laughs softly, heading into the kitchen and pulling out some things to start cooking. She decides on pasta since it’s quick and gets it all going. She’s stirring a pot of sauce when she hears Avi come in and she turns her head towards her. “Scared? What are you scared of?”

“Uhm… I don’t know.”

“You don’t know what?” Shay asks, her brows lifting slightly.

“A supers fasts bath? Nots wants my duckies todays.” Avi tells her quietly as she looks up at her. “I nots goings to falls asleeps. I goings to talks to Freckles.” She says, holding up the stuffed animal.

“It can be a fast bath, yes.” Shay tells her with a soft nod. “Alright, babe. I’ll be right in the kitchen if you need anything.” She tells her, heading off to get it going so that she doesn’t waste any time.

“Buts not feels goods…” Avi whispers but nods, not wanting to argue over it. “Alls dones. Justs wants to lays here.” She tells her quietly as she looks at her with a small smile.

“I know you don’t feel good, babe. It’s going to be a quick bath, I promise.” Shay reassures her with a smile. “Alright, love. You can lay there but no falling asleep.” She warns before heading off to go start dinner.

Aviana quickly gets bored of whatever is on tv before turning over and drawing patterns with her finger on the couch. “Mama?” She asks as she hears her entering the living room again. “Feels hots and tireds. I goes to beds afters dinners?”

Shay walks in when she hears her speaking and she shakes her head. “Well, what did we decide? It’s bath night, right? So, that means it’s dinner and then bath and then bed.” She reminds her. “Are you all done watching your show? We can turn it off if you’re done...”

“Otays. I sits heres and waits for yous. Thanks you for the juices.” Avi tells her with a small smile. She curls up as she lets her eyes drift over to the tv as she watches whatever kids show is currently on.

“You’re welcome, sweetheart.” She smiles, running upstairs to go take a quick shower. Once she’s done, she dries off and changes into comfy clothes before heading downstairs. She heads into the living room to check on her first.

Avi nods as she silently makes her way to the front door. She slips her shoes off and puts them away before making her way to the couch once she’s in the house. She climbs up onto it and wraps herself in her blanket, stuffed animal still clutched in her arms.

Shay follows her into the house and she puts her stuff down on the counter. She goes into the living room and brings Avi her cup filled with some juice. “Alright, babe. Here’s some juice. Mama’s gonna go shower really fast and then I’ll be back down.”

“Yous too mama. Saids we cuddles whiles dinners is cookings.” Avi tells her quietly. She climbs out of her seat, stuffed animal still clutched in her arms as she gets out of the car.

"As soon as we go inside, I’m gonna shower and then cook so you can rest and watch a show as soon as we get in.” Shay explains, unable to ever get anything past her as she sets her down.

“We watches somethings on tv whiles dinners is cookings?” Avi asks, watching out of the window and getting more and more excited the closer they get to home.

“You can definitely watch something on tv while I’m cooking. While you rest.” Shay smiles, pulling into the driveway a short time later. She gets out and opens her door, unbuckling her.

“Oh… Likes hows brother and sister gets whens thems haves tests at schools?” Avi asks. “Otays… I loves yous lots.”

“Umm, yeah kind of like that. Yup.” Shay says as she continues to drive the two of them home. “I love you too, sweetheart.”

“Why is it thinkings so much?” Avi asked confused, turning away from the window to look at her. “Is mama happys too?”

“Cause there’s lots on my mind.” Shay explains simply, shrugging lightly in thought. “Mama’s alright, babe. Don’t you worry about me.”

“Yous is beings quiets so I thinks yous was mads ‘cause yous nots wants me to be sicks.” Avi tells her quietly, burying her face in her stuffed animal. “I happys yous is happys at me.”

“Well, of course mama doesn’t want you to be sick but I’m not being quiet cause I’m mad. I’m just being quiet cause my brain is super busy thinking.” Shay says simply. “I’m glad you're happy, love.”

“Mama nots happys withs me for beings sicks?” Avi asks quietly. She wasn’t used to it being so quiet in the car and was worried that her being sick was making her mom upset.

“Aviana, why would mama be not happy with you for being sick? That’s not something you could control, babe.” Shay tells her, looking at her through the rearview mirror. “Why would you think mama isn’t happy with you?”

Aviana sits quietly once she’s buckled into her seat, trying to think if she did something wrong to cause her mom to suddenly be so quiet. She picks up her discarded stuffed animal and cuddles it close.

Shay starts the car and starts the ride home, not thinking she had done anything out of the ordinary enough to have her worried but also a lot on her own mind and a bit stressed herself about her daughter being sick.

“I thinks I knows whats I goings to picks. Buts I nots tellings yous yets. Gots to keeps it a secrets for nows.” Avi giggles. She frowns as she notices how quiet the other is but doesn’t say anything as they walk to the car.

“Oh, really? Well, that’s exciting. It’ll be a super fun surprise for me.” Shay giggles right along with her as she goes to the car. She lifts her up into her seat and gets her all buckled in before getting in herself.

“Cans I picks a new stories for us to reads tonights?” Avi asks as they leave the doctors office. “Buts I nots wants everyones. Justs wants yous.” She whispered, feeling extra clingy and tired.

“Yup. You can pick whichever story you want and that’s the one I’ll read.” Shay tells her, walking towards the car. At first she’s going to tell her that she doesn’t know if she’ll always be around or whatever else, but the last thing she wants is to cause an issue right now so she stays quiet.
