Lance/Shay from Voltron, number 2?

A very rare pair, my friend. Hope you don’t mind, but I borrowed some of your headcanons. Prompt from these.

Hope you enjoy!

They are sitting atop Blue on the surface of the Balmera, side by side and shoulders brushing. Shay is enraptured not only by the view but by the Paladin next to her. He speaks of his home on Earth, stories he’s told countless times.

She listens as he describes what the oceans are for the nth time, how the sky changes and shows different stars and constellations. How it’s galaxies away from where they are now. Lance’s eyes are bright as recounts the events that lead Lance to seeking his destiny among the stars.

Lance turns to her and grins.

“How does it feel?”

Shay tilts her head questioningly.

“To be the only star in my sky?”

Shay rocks back a little before starting to laugh. Lance puffs his chest out in pride at the sound.

“Your ways of courting are strange.”

Lance’s smug smirk softens as he reaches out to take her hands in his.

“Shay. There’s another reason we came back here besides just taking a break.”

Shay frowns.

“Is this a terrible reason?”

Lance’s eyes widen before he quickly shakes his head no.

“No way! I would’ve told you if it was bad!”

Shay relaxes while giving him a warm smile.

“Then what is this reason?”

Lance visibly swallows as he stands up, wringing his hands before offering one to Shay. Used to his strange behaviors, she grips it as he pulls her to her feet. She towers over her human by a good foot or so. Lance had explained to her that it was a measurement of distance and that she was indeed bigger than he was by a lot. Shay liked being able to hold the Skyling in her arms while completely covering him. Lance had told her once that it reminded him that there was someone out there that wanted him which had broke her heart.

She watched curiously as he fumbled with something in his jacket.

“I once told you how wooing a woman works on Earth. Do you remember what I said?”

Shay did indeed remember. It was hard not to when Lance had proceeded to demonstrate. Showering her with gifts and trinkets from faraway planets, one of which was stardust in a bottle. 

Shay loved that one the most.

She also knew the concept of dating. Where your partner took you out to participate in activities and to enjoy a meal together. Shay knew that she had done these things with Lance, had wanted to do more and more as time went on as she genuinely liked spending time with the Blue Paladin.

“Well…there’s one last thing before coupling that I want to show you.”

“Our form of coupling is the same as Skyling’s marriage?”

“Yes.”

Shay nodded.

“When one partner decides it’s time to become one with their chosen, they will go out and find a bonding ring. This ring represents the love and desire that they have for their love. After finding it, they will plan the most romantic date. It will vary between couples but the idea is the same.”

Lance took a deep breath before dropping down onto one knee. He slid a small blue and grey box out of his pocket, staring determinedly at it for a few moments before shifting his gaze to Shay’s. He makes the small container face towards her. He slowly lifts the lid of the box to reveal a simple silver band, a single blue crystal cradled in the metal. 

“When ready, he will ask a very important question.”

Shay’s heart beat a little faster inside her chest, even faster than it was when he first started talking about the final step of Earth couplings.

“Shay. Would you do me the honor of becoming my other half? Forever?”

Shay did not hesitate.

“Yes, Blue Skyling! I want to be forever with you!”

Lance’s smile seemed to light up the darkness around them as he slipped the band onto her middle finger. He stood up before leaning up onto his toes. Shay had learn awhile ago what Lance wanted in this moment. She crouched down to meet him halfway for a sweet and happy kiss.

Pulling away, Lance beamed up at her.

“I have never seen stars as beautiful as your eyes.”

Not one to brag or anything, but Lance was an amazing cook. As someone who had a big family, Lance had to learn how to help take care of everyone. Whether it was through helping the little ones with homework or making sure his mother took time to take care of herself.

Now, in the Castle’s kitchen, he was at a loss. He wanted to make Shay something delicious but he couldn’t tell what was what in the alien ingredients laid out in front of him.

Deciding to wing it in a very Lance-like way, he set to work.

Meanwhile, Shay was with Hunk out gathering some smaller Balmeran crystals for the ship.

“The Blue one is strange.”

Hunk looked at Shay, only slightly surprised at what he just heard.

“That’s just Lance for ya. Don’t worry, he’ll grow on you over time.”

Shay’s eyes widen.

“He will grow on me? How does one grow on someone else?”

Hunk laughed before answering.

“I didn’t mean literally grow. I meant you’ll get used to him. He’s a great guy once you get to know him.”

Shay nodded in understanding.

“He has said that he will make food for us once we are back.”

Now it was Hunk’s eyes that were widening in surprise. No. Not in surprise.

In terror.

Hunk couldn’t remember making it back to the castle quite so quickly before, even with Shay keeping pace with him a lot easier than the first time they had met as they raced down the hallway towards the kitchen.

“Is something wrong?”

Hunk was about to reply when an explosion could be heard from further down the hallway, followed by a girlish squeal. Hunk shared a panicked look with Shay before doubling his efforts. Seconds later had them sliding to a stop in front of the kitchen doorway, taking in the scene before them.

Unidentifiable chunks and globs of stuff were everywhere, clinging to every surface and even parts of the ceiling. The Altean version of a stove had exploded, causing a mess of charred bits and pieces to be scattered around the room. The oven was still burning and smoking as Hunk raced forward to put it out.

Shay, on the other hand, couldn’t stop staring at the very adorable and very sad looking Blue Paladin, who was completely covered from head to toe in a mix of raw and cooked food. He looked like an upset child who looked like he was about to get the scolding of a lifetime.

Which Hunk was about to do before noticing how Shay was responding to this. She had made her way over to the other, who was sitting on the floor looking like he was about to cry. He watched as Shay crouched down in front of Lance before carefully taking Lance’s hand in hers.

“Holding hands provide comfort, correct?”

Lance seemed to have finally snapped out of his saddened daze when Shay spoke, blinking furiously to keep the tears at bay and to give his crush a weak grin that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

“Hello, gorgeous. I wasn’t expecting you back so soon.”

Hunk immediately felt like he was intruding and decided Lance could get his stern talking to later. Quietly, Hunk slipped out of the room.

Neither of the two noticed, too focused on the other to be aware of anything else.

Shay was frowning now.

“Did your cooking not succeed?”

Lance’s smile faltered before falling completely.

“It didn’t work.”

She reached forward to now hold both of his hands in hers.

“Shall we clean together?”
