i really liked the old "corrupt a wish" threads in old forums where you had to come up with an ironic way the previous poster's wish backfired, because they really crystallized the two kinds of evil genies you see in pop culture

you had the people coming up with a genuine twist, the kind of cruel edge case that no amount of legalese could save you from

and you had the other 75% of users, who uniformly just posted "wish granted. head explodes"

Sh2-101: the Tulip Nebula

First image off my new rig after five months of fiddling and calibrating.

Shot at 1000mm effective focal length with a total exposure time of 13 or so hours. Narrowband emissions rendered in the Hubble (SHO) palette, with some masked blending to render the rich background hydrogen clouds in Cygnus in their true red instead of uh. neon green.

Very happy to be editing again. Never forget how beautiful this universe is and how lucky we are to be here.

we're so back

first ten minute exposure of the tulip nebula. planning on 12-16 hours total on this target before i call it done, but we'll see if i can manage that with short summer nights.

i'm now shooting at ~1000mm focal length, which lets me get a much tighter zoom on targets like this. excited for the rest of the season with this new setup.

Still working on it. I'll need another night or two to bring out faint details in the background without making everything murky, and we're now in wildfire season, so clear nights to shoot have become pretty unpredictable. I really love the tulip nebula though.
