“Why is it even pronounced like THAT?” The question followed by the word repeated at least ten times. Her lips pursed as she said it, elongating certain syllables to the extremes. “Ouija board. Is it a French thing? That’s a French word, right?”
“Egyptian? I think it means ‘good fortune’ or something of the like. Personally, I prefer to say it how it’s spelled ; ‘weegee’ sounds stupid.” Harper separated her lips just enough to pronounce the word before shaking her head -- nope, ‘oo-wee-gee’ definitely sounds better.
If you want a happy ending, it depends on where you stop the story.

there’s a dead girl inside me. i can feel her rattling around, her lungs choked with loss, heart pounding like wardrums. she had a laugh like summer rain until the world tore it away. (little girls who wish on stars don’t last long on the ground.) there’s a dead girl inside me and i’m the one who killed her.

Apparently “spite” is not an ‘appropriate answer’ to “What motivates you?”
I am aflame. Around me, everything dies.

Sometimes one has got to become monstrous in order to survive.

jordan’s silent until the girl stops, eyebrows raised in interest. “ so… what am i meant to take from that? it ‘sounds a little useless’ but ‘stick around for a bit’? you’re confusing. ” a hand raises to push hair behind her ear, eyes squinting slightly as she makes her choice. “ i guess i can help you a bit every now & then, though. ”
a reluctant smile, something similar to hope refected in her gaze. “ confusing is my middle name. it’s really margaret but a girl can dream. besides, i didn’t say the fact it was useless had any impact on my opinion of you ; i just think it’s useless to you, whereas it could actually come in handy to someone of my -- uh, condition. and if you want to help every now and then, i won’t deny you the opportunity. “
the right of lateral extremities forms a fist & settles ‘gainst the protrusion of a chiseled chin ; thoughtfulness taking over expression. ‘ well… per’aps you could try attuning yourself to somezhing zhat you feel drawn to. & zhe stronger an attraction zhat you feel, zhe more of possibility it is zhat, zhat particular ZHING is what you need to extinguish, or, may relate to what to you’re searching for. as a friend of most apparitions, i’d be ‘appy to aid in your ventures for zhis quest. ‘
a finger is pressed against her right temple, tapping gently a few times as if that will help her remember. ‘ trust me, i’m trying. i don’t know if it’s going to work -- i can’t honestly say i’m one-hundred percent prepared to move on ; if you’re offering though, i could do with the help. i’d take the proper afterlife over this between-world existence any day. ‘

She’s really not sure how to handle this situation in front of her. The person in front of her, who is really giving her a sad vibe, has the same exact face as her. This girl isn’t human, Iris can sense that, but what she might be is a mystery. Maybe a shifter, or maybe a user of magic. Either way, she couldn’t stop staring. “I think we have the same face.”
it’s like an episode of ‘who wore it better?’ except the thing they're wearing is a face. which, harper is pretty sure was hers first. “we do look quite similar but i’m fairly certain there has to be some difference. we’re -- well, first of all, i’m wearing different lipstick, that makes us different.” to be honest, she’s at a loss for words. it’s like looking into a mirror and it’s just slightly disconcerting.

“you don’t have a smell.” the girl doesn’t mean to sound like a creep, but she’s a girl with a hyper-active nose and she notices these things. “everyone has a smell, why don’t you have a smell?”
“pardon?” harper wrinkles her nose, eyes narrowed. the dead are alive and walking, the same can be said for her ; except, she’s a ghost and not really inhabiting a body. “--what do people typically smell like?”
Who’s the real you? The person who did something awful, or the one who’s horrified by the awful thing you did? Is one part of you allowed to forgive the other?
