Leaks. Evidence for. Evidence against
First and foremost -I am not here to reassure you about your ship. Iām not here to debunk your ship. All I want to do is look at what we have seen and heard and read. Iām not uploading the images, because as you know, they are being taken down here and there. You probably know somewhere you can find them
Iāll start with evidence for their authenticity
1) Kihyun Ryu did upload a picture of him drawing Shiro -this is some time after production was assumed to have finished on the show.Ā
2) One of the images closely resembles the drawing in question
3) Josh Keaton was at DreamWorks in recent weeks (lending credence to the idea that something was added)
4) People who are uploading the images to certain platforms are being asked to remove them.
5) There has been no official denial of their authenticity.
6) Despite remarks that it makes no sense for the images to have a sepia tone applied makes little sense -sepia tones are applied to wedding photographs quite frequently.
7) Shiroās groom is in fact an established character -he had a cameo in the pilot.
Evidence against their authenticity
1) The first three images included a watermark to to suggest that they were due to be translated into Malay. However, these sayĀ āBahasa Malayā (Malay being the english spelling) instead of āBahasa Melayuā.
2) Once the misspelling was pointed out, this particular watermark vanished from all subsequent images.
3) Sodomy is a crime in Malaysia. People there can be caned for homosexual acts. I donāt think they would be interested in acquiring a season featuring a kiss between men, much less translating it into Malay and broadcasting to children.
4) There are a total of four images featuring Pidge. She looks drastically different in *all of them*. Now, two of these images depict a timeskip- so that one makes sense, but it doesnāt account for the others. I donāt even think these pictures are all the work of the same artist.
5) The colouring of Shiroās groomās skin and hair is different from his first appearance (I know that happens -you may recall that Smithers was black in his first appearance on the Simpsons) but given the other information suggesting fake, itās noteworthy.
6) What incentive have Zethrid and Ezor to help the goodguys, much less join the Blades? Given that their possible deaths in season 7, and how this was leapt upon by fans who had issues with other things in the season, this smacks of a fan fix it.
7) I gave up on the dream a long time ago, but for many years, I wanted to be an animator -from that time in my life, a number of things struck me.
- while some of the artwork is very nicely done, thereās no particular use of perspective anywhere. Being a show featuring battles in space, war and close combat, thereās some really gorgeous and impressive use of perspective in the show, which is conspicuously absent from the supposed screenshots. In the Wedding, Plance and Allurance pictures, itās two characters standing side-by-side facing each other. Once or twice would be fine- three times is suspicious.
- The background is obstructed or absent in all but one of the images. I pointed out before that the images (or some of them may be the work of an animator). Animation and background art are produced by different artists. If produced by an animator or animators, they may realise that their own inability to draw a background consistent with the showās style might be a giveaway.
8) As far as we can tell, BTI only translate to European languages -so sodomy aside, Malay was unlikely to begin with.
9) I canāt personally verify this next point, but I am told that Malaysia only has a subtitled version, and only as far season 2.
Anything else to be suspicious of?
The original leaker said something likeĀ āI donāt really watch Voltronā but went on to say something likeĀ āShiro are you leaving Keith? Maybe he can go to Acxa- or Lanceā
Does that sound like someone who doesnāt watch Voltron, or does it sound like someone trying to piss Sheith fans off?
You may note, also, that the leaks also imply a permanent parting for Lance and Allura (and a scenario in which the most viable love interests for Keith and Lance are out of the picture) so very likely, a stab at the Allurance people, too
Also, if someone was stupid enough to leak in the first place, they would be relieved on their employment in very short order -and yet the leaks kept coming!
Why would a talented artist invest so much time in this?
Why would a talented person create a computer virus? Some men just wanna watch the world burn.
Why are the images being taken down if they are not authentic?
Last year DreamWorks had a *very* high profile leak, due to the machinations of a complete idiot of aĀ āfanā. TwoĀ āleaksā in succession would be a PR nightmare. It would be worse still for BTI, as itĀ is a potential source of reputational damage. If someone outside of the fandom (letās say another studio) sees theĀ āleaksā with the BTI brand on them, they could getĀ pretty twitchy about using the studio for their translation services.
YET AGAIN -donāt take any of this as gospel. Iām not here to reassure you about your ship. Sheith isnāt that much of a likelihood, and Allura and Lance could well part ways (a lovely, bittersweet ending, if you ask me) but the evidence suggests that these particular leaks are not authentic.
Occamās razor states that they could be authentic, but if they are, it represents a huge stylistic departure from what we have seen in voltron todate
