Maybe I would be more open to healthy critiques of Sam's character if so many of the fandom's critiques didn’t suck so bad that I'm caught in an eternal cycle of having to defend him.

Like 80% of Sam critiques are just...plain lies? Like, who's that you're talking about, cuz it ain't Sam Winchester. Or like, horrible misunderstandings of his intentions and motivations.

[Mostly happens because people have certain assumptions about who Sam is and they let that assumption colour everything they see him do, even if their assumption is dead wrong]

Another 10% is like, normal stuff framed as bad things because people are comparing it to Dean and its the dumbest shit too. "Oh look, Sam tries to eat healthy and gets holier than thou about it with Dean, but what he fails to realize is that growing Dean had to keep sacrificing his food to keep Sam fed blah blah." And other such variations of this. Like the "Sam is a bad brother because look! He doesn't immediately kill himself when he thinks Dean is dead!"

[First off, they both have issues with food and being judgy with your brother is not a moral failing. Secondly, I do not buy into the perspective that only Dean went hungry as they were kids (I will (hopefully) make this thing its own post).]

And of course, let's not forget the around 8% that's essentially Damned if you do, Damned if you don't, when it comes to Sam where my boy can't do anything right. Anything Sam does is taken in the worst way possible.

Then only 2ish% of critiques are even close to good analysis of his character.

So yeah, I don't even want to consider anything negative about him because all I wanna do is cut him some slack.
