I’ve touched on this before but I really feel like people often glaze over the fact that the hermits are coworkers. Maybe it’s the rpfer in me but that’s like…so vital to the analysis.

Have you guys ever had a work wife? Ever have a coworker that genuinely makes your day better? Not only because you get along with them so well but because they make your job EASIER. Them being around makes you hate your day job less. You look forward to days you can be on shift together. You know that you won’t have to work as hard, they’ll have your back. They’ll carry the mental load for you. They know what you need sometimes before you do. They remind you when you need to take a break to eat. There is an intimacy in spending all of your time with someone, even if that time is spent at your shared job. Maybe ESPECIALLY because it’s at your shared job. Maybe you have a partner at home that you love and care for but they don’t have the knowledge or skill or talent to do your work. There’s only one person who has that ability, and you form a special connection with them.

Where’s the line, you know? What’s the difference between friendship, romance, knowledge and intimacy?

If the person you spend the most time with in the world is your coworker, what does that make the two of you? If they know you better than your partner does, does that in itself constitute emotional infidelity? Even if nothing romantic or sexual is ever said or done between the two of you, that’s still the person you’re closest to in the world. Even if you’ve never hung out outside of work.

All of that is SO INTERESTINGGGG and I wish people played around in that space more #sigh
