Seniors-Disabilities - Shia Imams Council of Victoria Inc.

Our Imams and volunteers are doing a bit at the local level to address these issues. Our seniors in the community continue to tell us heartbreaking stories. Elder mistreatment and abuse are significant social issues. They become dependent on others for care as a result of their fragility, which makes them reliant on others for both little and large demands such as housekeeping activities and fundamental functions such as feeding and toileting.

Migrants/Refugees - Shia Imams Council of Victoria Inc.

Shia Imams Council of Victoria have the support of community volunteers but does not have enough funding to provide adequate facilities and resources required by new migrants and refugees. At this stage, our scholars (Imams) are providing volunteer religious services, moral support, and minimal financial support to these people. The Council also provides an interpreter service for people with no or little English language knowledge.

Matrimonial - Shia Imams Council of Victoria Inc.

An Islamic marriage ceremony known as Nikah involves a contract of marriage agreed upon between a man and a woman.Our scholars (Imams) are qualified to recite the Muslim marriage ceremony called “Nikah”. A couple of Shia scholars (Imams) are registered in Australia as Marriage Celebrants. People looking for such a service can contact the Shia Imams Council of Victoria.

Several weekend schools are operating in Victoria wherein most of our Imams (Scholars) are providing their services regularly. Our Imams (scholars) are providing leadership, guidance, and professional assistance to the teachers/volunteers of these schools including ongoing training and support. They are continually involved in monitoring and updating the syllabus, policies, and procedures.

Maulana Syed Abul Qasim Rizvi is the founder President of Shia Imams Council of Victoria Inc. He has served as the Resident Scholar (Imam) of three different Shia Muslim organisations in Australia. In Australia, Maulana Rizvi has contributed extensively in alleviating socio-religious issues of Shia Muslim Community through continued active participation with inter-faith groups, migrants centres, refugees centres, youth groups, and local and state government organisations.

Imam Hussain (a.s), the grandson of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), also known as Abu Abdullah and Sayyid al-Shuhada' (Lord of martyrs), was the third Divine leader (Holy Imam) of Shia Muslims. A figure whose sacrifices have kindled a light for anyone willing to follow his lead and make this world a better place to live.

Millions of Shia Muslims visit these holy places every year from all parts of the world, including Australia. Such visits have also generated more opportunities for travel and tourism businesses in Australia and overseas. Often, groups of Shia Muslims travel together under the leadership of a local scholar (Imam) to facilitate the smooth execution of prayers and supplications to Allah at these holy places. The Shia Imams Council of Victoria facilitates such religious tours for Shia Muslims by providing guidance and information about coordination, travel, accommodation, local assistance, and religious matters.
