When my class was lined up from shortest to tallest, I was always the first one in line.
To no surprise, others would make fun of me by calling me “Shorty” or “Tiny”.
To be fair, maybe they had no ill intentions and were only teasing me because they thought my reactions were funny.
Still, it really pissed me off because that's a sensitive subject for me!
That’s why I researched how to get taller, and even took karate lessons so I could get strong enough to show them who’s boss despite my height! Or so I’d thought…
Nobody in my class took my concerns seriously.
“It’s fine to be short though, isn’t it? It doesn’t actually matter.”
“I agree! Syo-kun, your cuteness is part of who you are. I want you to stay like this forever!”
Sheesh, they don’t get it at all…
I don’t want to be cute! I want to be cool!
Driven by my annoyance, I tried even harder.
“Hmm, so taking calcium alone isn’t enough… What about vitamins then…”
“Syo-chan, you need to go outside and get some sunlight as well.”
My little brother Kaoru noticed me mulling over it and chipped in with his advice.
“Sunlight, huh… Then I’ll go jog five kilometers every morning…!”
I kept researching how to get taller.
I recorded my height in a journal and kept experimenting.
“Urgh… I’m not getting taller at all.”
Every day, I would measure my height by marking it on a pole, but noticed no change.
“Ah, I grew five millimeters.”
“Seriously?!”
As I was doing this every day, Kaoru started joining me to measure his height as well.
Yet, for some reason, Kaoru was the only one getting taller.
I don’t get it. I’m trying way harder than him!
Not only that, we’re twins, and I’m the older brother! Why is my little brother Kaoru getting all the height…
What on earth am I doing wrong!?
As we kept measuring our heights together every day, Kaoru grew one, then two centimeters over me.
At some point, our mother piped in.
“Smaller son of mine, the size of your body has nothing to do with how grand you are as a person. Become an outstanding man!”
She would give me such nonsensical advice and...
“Don’t refer to me as ‘smaller son’!”
Dammit… Just watch me!
… But she did have a point… You can always build up your personality despite how you look.
All right!
That’s when I made my decision to aim to become a chivalrous man!
The first step was to get a servant. I think this idea was inspired by the drama I was into at the time.
Anyway, a man with authority has servants! At least that was what I thought.
“I’m recruiting for servants!”
I called out to my classmates.
“And?” “What? Is this some kind of game?”
Of course, my classmates barely reacted.
“That’s right, I want servants! From this day forward, I declare myself as a prince!”
“Riiight.”
“...”
They brushed me off…
No, I can't let this get to me! This is because I’m still not up to snuff! I’m sure someone will be glad to become my servant once I assert dominance!
Believing that to be the truth, I kept trying.
I trained my body and my soul, and even rewatched my favorite drama so many times that I memorized it! I worked hard enough to deserve to be a prince!
… But I was met with failure.
I ended up graduating from middle school with not one person agreeing to become my servant.
“RAHHH! This time for sure!”
I yelled to myself as I grabbed my favorite hat the day before the entrance ceremony for Saotome Academy.
This is the last time I'm gonna try! I’ll give up if I can’t find anyone.
That’s what I would think to myself sometimes.
“What’s wrong, Syo-chan? What do you mean ‘this time’?”
My roommate Natsuki asked me out of curiosity.
Not only is he extremely tall, he’s also annoying and loves cute and small things.
His height alone already triggers my inferiority complex…
“Hehe, Syo-chan, you’re so cute when you’re trying so hard!”
He gives me that IRRITATING grin that I would imagine he would make when playing with a dog or a cat.
“Shut up!”
Not only does he call me “cute”, the word I hate being called the most, it stings even more that he says it with no bad intent.
Dammit! I’m so pissed off. Argh, I swear I’ll get back at everyone by getting a servant!
After the entrance ceremony, I called for candidates to be my servant in my class!
“Anyone who wants to join my retinue, raise your hand~!”
I raised my voice as much as I could, but got no response.
Hey, don’t look at me like that! Stop whispering to each other!
Ahh, dammit! I see… So asking for servants is a futile effort? Was this all pointless??
No, I won’t believe it! Thanks to my hard effort last year, I managed to grow a whole centimeter. I’m going to become a great man for sure! And a great man naturally attracts servants!
“…!! Quit ignoring me! Not even one of you is interested!?”
I yelled, partly out of desperation.
Whatever. If this is all pointless, then so be it. But I’m not going to give up so easily. I’m going to give whatever I’ve got.
“M-me!”
“...”
… Huh? Did someone say “me”?
Huh…? Really…? I’m not hearing things?
As I looked at the person that had raised their hand timidly, it turned out to be that rude girl that had mistaken me for a middle schooler this morning.
Did my shouting scare her? What if she answered because she felt intimidated by me…?
If that was the case then I’d feel sorry for coercing her.
I had to make sure… so I asked her again.
She’s okay with it… She actually WANTS to be my servant.
FOR REAAAAAAL???
It’s real… I got one—a person that recognized my dominance!
This is crazy. I’m overjoyed!
A servant! Getting one was evidence that I was indeed a great man!
Yeah, so everything I did wasn’t in vain at all!
Alright! I'll work harder to become an even greater man for the sake of my newly found servant too~!
Afterwards, we had to pick partners, so I immediately partnered up with my servant.
The name of my servant and partner was Haruka Nanami. She was a bit of a klutz but an earnest and good person.
The next day…
“Good morning, Your Highness!”
When I entered the classroom, Haruka was cleaning my desk.
“Yo… Hey, what are you doing?”
“Um, I wondered if there was anything I could do as your servant! And so I was doing what I could in my own way…”
She said a little bashfully while grasping the cleaning cloth tightly in her hand.
… She was so committed! Was it just me or was she even more committed than me?
“Oh, and… I’m sorry about yesterday. I was so rude during our first meeting…”
Oh, right. The first impression she made was terrible.
She had mistaken me for a middle or elementary schooler… But… she meant no harm.
“It’s fine. It didn’t bother me.”
“Thank you so much! Oh, how kind! I’m so happy to be the servant of such a great person!”
‘I’m so happy to be the servant of such a great person.’
That line echoed inside of my head.
Happy… she said she’s happy…
… Of course she would be! After all, I'm such a CHARMING prince! Uh-huh, people who get it, get it! Hehe~ I’m so going to boast to Natsuki about this today.
“Um! I will work hard as your servant, so feel free to tell me what to do.”
“Roger! Oh, in that case, join me after school today. Let’s explore the academy grounds together!”
“Okay!”
Haruka had a big smile on her face. Ah, this feels great.
I do have a younger brother, and though he’s very attached to me, we're the same age; and he has been a little cheeky recently, so it’s not like he idolizes me.
“Hah, aren’t you in high spirits, Shorty.”
“He must be happy to have found a servant. However, this is like watching children play pretend.”
In the corner of the classroom, Ren and Tokiya were whispering to each other.
Oh, and by the way, I got to know Ren and Tokiya during the orientation day and we’ve been stuck together ever since. We’re frenemies!
It kinda seemed like they were talking about me, but I didn't mind!
An outstanding man doesn’t get bothered with small things! Yeah!
… But it did irk me a bit when Ren called me “Shorty”.
I’ll tell him to stop doing that next time.
Then after classes…
“Huh? Where is she…?”
We'd agreed to meet in front of the classroom. I've been waiting for a long time, yet she still hasn't arrived.
Was cleaning taking her this long? Or did she realize she hated being a servant after all?
If the latter was the case then we’ll stop the servant thing so she can continue normally as my partner…
“Your Highness! I apologize for being late!”
Haruka was panting frantically as she came running at full speed.
“So—since we’re going… exploring… I prepared... a few things! Ah—”
After sprinting over to me, Haruka staggered.
“Watch out!”
I instantly caught her.
“...!!! U-um, s-s-s-s-sorry!”
As I held her in my arms, she turned bright red and kept apologizing.
“Ahh! I’m also sorry! I didn’t think…”
I released her and quickly turned my face away.
“Oh… no… You saved me. Thank you…”
Clearly embarrassed, she hung her head and thanked me in a small voice.
Her face was so red. Ah, that’s true. She was… a girl after all.
… Even if she wasn’t my servant, she was my partner, so if anything were to happen, I have to protect her!
“That’s quite the luggage you carried here. What is it?”
“Oh… um, I brought the floor plans of the academy buildings, also sweets, and then I also brewed some coffee… As a servant I had to prepare properly…”
“I see, you’ve worked so hard, thank you!”
She… was a bit strange, but she really was a good and hardworking person.
“Ah… um, was I helpful?”
She asked insecurely while glancing upwards at me.
“Oh, you’re really thoughtful! You’re right, maps and rations are essential for going on an adventure! Yup!”
Was she trying to play along? Or could it be that she's just really into this kind of stuff? If that’s the case, I would be so happy! I don’t want her to feel obligated, so I would love for her to enjoy herself.
“I’m glad!”
She breathed a sigh of relief. She’s so dedicated!
“Hey, why are you working so hard? Even if you didn’t do much for me, I would already be satisfied if you just kept me company!”
“Ah… That’s because I was so happy.”
“Huh…? Happy about what?”
Did I do something for her?
“You let me be your servant and partner, Syo-kun. I know that I’m the one who offered to be your servant, but I was so glad that you allowed me to. That’s why I wanted to be as useful as possible.”
She said that as she blushed bashfully with a bright smile.
I’m the one getting the most out of this. I was overjoyed to have someone who would go along playing this game with me…
Yeah, I’ll do my best, too! I’ll become like a prince and protect my servants!
“Thank you! Then I’ll definitely protect you as a prince! There’s no point in being a prince if I can’t do that. I’ll do my best to have you follow my lead!”
“Waa! I’ll follow you for the rest of my life, Your Highness!”
This really does sound like a game of pretend.
If Tokiya and Ren heard this, they’d probably mock me for playing around like this at this age.
But I think this is fine for the two of us.
I figured that this is just another form of trust.
I was happy that she offered to be my servant, and I guess she wanted to return her gratitude in her own way.
I figured I’d let her do what she wanted for now, but I wasn’t trying to be literal about these roles.
I was the prince, and she was my servant. It would be ideal if we just respected each other and manage to make awesome songs!
Ah, actually, what kind of songs did she make?
“Great! As your prince, I command you to make a song and play it for me!”
“Of course! Ah, I just came up with a song just now. Can I try playing it?”
She declared to me with excitement as she points to the piano in the corner of the classroom.
“What?! You already thought of one?!”
My eyes flew wide open from shock. Were songs that easy to make?!
“Yes! I thought of so many songs as I was talking to you, your Highness!”
She pumped her fist with a reassuring smile.
Ah… She was really enjoying herself. She could make a face like that?
“I see… Then go ahead and play it. I’ll listen.”
“Sure!”
She started playing the piano and…
Ah… Her expression changed. I’m floored…
She was so timid when I would talk to her, but she was so confident when she was playing the piano. So cool!
Why was she so different? Is the one playing the piano really her? She made this song?
I could see her playing right in front of me, and yet her personality did such a 180 that I started to doubt what I was seeing.
This is crazy… I can’t take my eyes off of her…
Did I… end up partnering up with someone extraordinary…?
I can’t let this song beat me!
As a prince, I can’t let my servant’s song overpower me.
I would have to make sure to do my lessons and become good enough to sing her songs! If I couldn’t, then I didn’t have the right to say that she’s my servant.
I wouldn’t be able to continue to be her prince.
I must keep my word! I wouldn’t be worthy as a man, otherwise!
“... Um… How was it…?”
After she finished playing, she asked me as she timidly looked up at me.
Does she seriously not realize how mindblowing her songs are? Anyone would agree that that song was impressive.
Have more confidence! You should be proud of yourself.
If she didn’t know, then I’d make her know!
“That was a great song! I felt passion light in my heart! Instead of going out for an adventure, let’s do some lessons! Let’s make a terrific song and debut together, partner!”
I patted Haruka’s shoulder.
“P… partner…”
Haruka’s face goes tomato red from surprise.
Huh…? Did I say something weird?
“Umm, s-so… you’re okay with someone like me being your partner… instead of a servant?!”
She asked me, flustered.
“Huh? Yeah, we’re paired up, which means we’re partners. Am I wrong?”
“No, you’re right! I’m on cloud nine! I’ll do my very, very, very best!”
She didn’t seem to be saying that just to be polite. What was the celebration about? Why was she so happy?
I was the one who should be happiest about this. Why was she looking at me with so much glee?
Not only was I overjoyed when she became my servant, she even ended up a partner that could even make astounding music. I couldn’t be happier as a singer myself! I need to step up my game!
“It is an honor to be Your Highness’ partner! I will make wonderful songs for you!”
She looked at me with a gaze of respect, brimming with delight.
I was a bit embarrassed, but I’ll do my best to meet her expectations!
But… did I do anything to deserve being looked up to this much…?
… GASP! Wait, she understands how amazing I truly am!
Is that why she’s so amazed by me! I see, I get it now!
People who get it really get it! I see now. In the future, yours truly is going to be a famous star and you’ll be a famous composer!
That’s my prediction for us! We’ll do our best to make that come true, partner!
In the morning, before the entrance ceremony, I was filled with excitement by the thought of meeting new people.
I had woken up early, so I went to the backyard garden and talked to the birds there.
These birdies were the first friends I made after moving to the academy. We were getting along pretty well, despite the fact that it hasn’t been that long since we became friends.
Even back then, on my family’s farm, I was able to understand what the animals felt and talked with the cows there quite often.
I mean, my father was also very close friends with Mr. Bear.
But here in the city, it didn’t seem like the people talked to the little birdies at all.
“Hehe, I’m so excited about this new school~”
What would my classmates be like? What kind of person would my homeroom teacher be like? What kind of person would my partner be like?
I hoped that they would be a kind and cute person who's smaller than me.
“What do you think, little birdies?”
The birdies shared their various opinions by chirping and tweeting.
“Hehe, you think? Ah~ it would be great if that person is as cute as you are.”
I wanted to meet them as soon as possible, my one and only person… The person that would weave music just for me.
Kind and warm music, only for me…
I was lost in thought, thinking about the new people I could meet.
“Peep… chirp, chirp!”
The little birdies chirped to inform me of the time.
“Oh! It’s already that time. Thank you, little birdie. See you around!”
I stood up from the bench and waved the birdies goodbye.
My heart was racing from excitement as I merrily skipped to the auditorium.
The ceiling of the auditorium opened up and the principal came flying down from the sky. There were so many amusing things about this school.
“Ugh…”
Hm, oh my?
The girl in front of me was staggering.
Was something wrong? Was she okay?
“Ah…!”
She slowly started falling backward, so I raised my arms and stopped her fall by hugging her body.
Oh… so small.
She was so tiny and delicate, but also… warm.
What was this?
There was this fuzzy feeling in my heart.
Oh, but that wasn’t important right now…
I had to take care of this girl that had collapsed due to anemia.
“You can take it easy, please put your weight on me.”
The girl obediently followed my words and entrusted her body to me.
We met for the first time, and didn’t even know each other's names, yet she relied on me so willingly.
Oh my, I had to protect her.
She was counting on me right now.
I did my best to take care of her.
For that she thanked me… Hearing her say “thank you” made me so happy.
My roommate at the dormitory, Syo-chan, was also cute, but Syo-chan was very put-together, and it felt more like I was the one being protected. This girl, however, had relied on me and thanked me, which was a new experience…
I couldn’t help but play the big brother role.
I don’t have any siblings because I’m an only child, but I always wanted a younger sister or brother.
We ended up wandering the academy grounds together afterward.
I had decided to keep her company.
Not only was I worried since her anemia had just caught up to her earlier, I also wanted more time to talk to her.
I wanted to protect this small, cute and timid girl who relied on me so faithfully.
She was also a bit of a shy person.
When I picked the petals out of her hair, she closed her eyes shut and her cheeks turned all red.
Seeing her like this was so endearing, I could have looked at her like this forever.
That, however, wasn’t her only charm point.
When I listened to the song she made in the recording room, I felt a spark inside me.
“What… is this…?”
I was speechless.
It felt like electricity sparked through my body, and suddenly my heart bursted with song.
Amazing…
Wonderful…
How incredible…
What was this?
I was totally mesmerized.
It was a strange sensation, as if my heart was being stolen away.
I could feel that this song had potential even I didn’t know music could have.
I admired her talent. I had a feeling that I, too, could become as strong as that song.
Just where on earth was this delicate and endearing girl hiding such passion?
I must have been enchanted by the hidden strength in her song.
That is probably why I chose her as my partner.
At first, I saw her as a cute little sister that I wanted to protect.
But now it’s different…
As a musician myself, she was a threat… but also my admiration…
So please, guide the way.
Take me to the point I couldn’t reach—to the pinnacle of music…

Love End — Eternal Nocturne
Natsuki-kun is the last to perform on stage during the graduation audition, yet he outshines the rest.
The intro of the song starts with Natsuki-kun’s wistful violin play paired with my piano play.
He starts off singing the first verse gently, full of emotion. The music is low, allowing his robust voice to reach far…
Above all, Natsuki-kun’s voice is very clear. His singing is the same as when he plays his string instruments—delicate and sorrowful. Yet at times, his delicate voice becomes bold. The hook of the song being especially intense completely conceals the weakness in his heart.
His voice is brimming with boundless confidence. I’m falling into the tale that is Natsuki-kun’s song…
Everyone, without exception, forgot about reality. Lured in by his voice, our hearts are filled with only his song.
He sings the last hook of the song gracefully till the end. When he looks up, the audience is clapping and giving him a standing ovation.
For the graduation audition, nine judges, including the principal, and the audience vote on who wins.
The nine judges give a score up to ten points each.
The audience votes on which student they think was the best, and the student that gets the most votes from the audience gets another ten points. Second place gets nine points, and it goes down to tenth place.
The person who gets the most points overall gets first place, becomes a new idol in the Shining Agency, then aims to become the top idol.
For the students who don’t win first place, anyone that gets more than 85 points can still join the Shining Agency.
Furthermore, there are people from other agencies that come to watch our audition…
Even if we don’t get into the Shining Agency, there’s a chance that another agency would ask us to join them.
But… this song is without a doubt going to win. Everyone is certain of it.
Audience A: How wonderful… It even made me cry.
Audience B: Yeah. It's a great song that reaches the listeners' hearts.
Ringo Tsukimiya: That was truly wonderful, Nacchan! The song is great, and you performed it perfectly.
Ringo Tsukimiya: Both of you are geniuses, so I’m sure this song wouldn't have become so wonderful without the two of you. No doubt, it's a miraculous song!
Syo Kurusu: ... Natsuki… Dang it! Your song was way too good! I expected nothing less from MY rival!
Once he is done and bows to the audience, Natsuki-kun comes running towards me backstage, while being out of breath.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Haru-chan… Did my feelings reach you?
Haruka Nanami: Yes. They reached me right here…
I lightly put both of my hands on my chest.
Natsuki Shinomiya: I’m so glad… Hey, come with me…
Natsuki-kun takes my hand and runs away from the stage.
Haruka Nanami: Er… w-what…?
Meanwhile, on the stage that is getting more distant—
Ringo Tsukimiya: This year’s winner of the graduation audition is Natsuki Shinomiya!
—I can hear Tsukimiya-sensei’s voice. Everyone is waiting for Natsuki-kun to appear on stage.
Audience: Encore, encore!
Audience Member: Natsuki-kun—! Come back—!
Haruka Nanami: Natsuki-kun… um, everyone is calling for you…
Natsuki Shinomiya: Yeah… but… We have to go, or it won’t start...
Unfazed, Natsuki-kun continues running, and the cheers gradually fade into the distance.
Natsuki-kun pulls me by my hand this whole time, until we arrive at the school’s rooftop.
At the rooftop, the sun has already completely set, making the star constellations of spring shine faintly.
Natsuki Shinomiya: On that day, this is the place where it should have started… But instead, this is where our story was cut off temporarily.
Natsuki Shinomiya: The first time I met you, I recall, was during the entrance ceremony. You fainted due to anemia… Hehe.
Natsuki Shinomiya: I embraced you gently in my arms.
Haruka Nanami: ... Back then, I caused you some serious trouble… I… I feel ashamed just from remembering it.
Haruka Nanami: Getting hugged from behind like that was… my… my first…
Remembering the scene from back then, my face turns sharp red.
Knowing that my face must be bright red, I reflexively hide it with my hands so he won’t see it.
I can’t quite see Natsuki-kun’s face…
Natsuki Shinomiya: You are always fast to hide your face like that. Please show yourself to me more. I want to see all the expressions you make.
e reaches out, places his hands on mine, and tightly grasps them.
Haruka Nanami: ...
Natsuki Shinomiya: ... Maybe it was… love at first sight. Even though I only saw you from behind, in the end, people don’t need a reason to fall in love.
He speaks in a whisper as he looks straight at me with kind eyes.
Natsuki Shinomiya: My heart was throbbing when I heard the song that you made in the recording room.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Our meeting was fate, and you are my goddess of music, for now and forever…
Natsuki Shinomiya: When you called me by my name for the first time, I couldn’t sleep at night and kept looking at the starry sky...
Huh? Natsuki-kun too…? And here I thought he couldn’t get nervous…
Natsuki Shinomiya: Hehe. Surprised? It’s like when you’re nervous, my heart throbbed just as much as yours.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Furthermore, I’ll never forget that summer when we made music together. I will remember it for the rest of my life.
Natsuki Shinomiya: I was so scared playing the violin again after such a long time… But you smiled and said that you enjoyed making music with me.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Your smile back then was… so immensely cute.
Natsuki-kun smiles brightly, so much so that my head starts spinning.
Haruka Nanami: ... I can’t take more…
If my heart beats any faster, it might explode.
I don’t want to show him my expressions, but he is holding both of my hands, so I can’t hide behind them.
Realizing that he can see it all, I get even more embarrassed and shut my eyes tightly… That’s all I can do.
Natsuki Shinomiya: What is it…? Tell me, Haruka. Please, tell me everything…
He’s so close that I can feel the breath of his whisper on my ear, making all strength leave my body.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Oh… Sorry, I overdid it with the teasing.
Natsuki-kun gently catches me in his embrace.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Speaking of which, you fell unconscious due to anemia during the summer as well.
Natsuki Shinomiya: It was on the day when we went into the forest. I remember how much I struggled to hold back the urge to kiss your sleeping face back then.
Natsuki Shinomiya: You were already so important in my heart, yet I didn’t realize that it was ‘love’...
Natsuki Shinomiya: Until I suddenly did. ‘So that is love,’ is what I thought to myself. And that I love you so much that it’s unbearable.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Despite finally having realized my feelings, due to my weakness, I couldn’t initiate it. As a result, I hurt you many times.
Natsuki Shinomiya: When you pushed me away on the night of the fireworks, I thought you rejected me… I was in so much pain. It was disheartening.
Natsuki Shinomiya: I was unable to sustain myself, until my other self appeared out of concern…
Natsuki Shinomiya: The saddest part of it all was that my love for you was the very reason for the immense pain I felt after the rejection.
Natsuki Shinomiya: I realized that my pain was as strong as my love for you…
Natsuki Shinomiya: That’s why I want to start anew once more—our ‘love song’...
Natsuki Shinomiya: I’m no longer the same as I was then. That’s why… the me right now will confess once more.
Natsuki Shinomiya: ... I’m in love with you. Haruka… I love you. I love you so much that I can’t help it.
His gaze burns with a different passion than during the academy festival. There is a trace of Satsuki-kun in it…
But his eyes are just as kind as they were then… It’ll be fine, I won’t falter anymore.
Haruka Nanami: ... Me too.
Natsuki Shinomiya: ... I’ll never… let you go again…
As if being pulled together, our faces draw closer and our lips overlap.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Nh…
Haruka Nanami: ... Nh…! … Na… tsuki… ku… Ah…
This kiss is different from the light ones he always places on my cheeks and forehead…
It's a melty kiss—passionate and leaving me breathless… My head turns numb, and I can't think straight.
After our long kiss, as we draw our faces back slightly, Natsuki-kun smiles with a chuckle.
Natsuki Shinomiya: I swear eternity to you and this starry sky…
After receiving the principal’s advice yesterday, I have called Shinomiya-san to the backyard today.
Natsuki Shinomiya: You wanted to talk, Nanami-san? What’s the matter—could it be about Syo-chan?
Argh… Shinomiya-san is surprisingly sharp…
Haruka Nanami: Well… Yes…
It’s about the fact that Syo-kun makes my heart race when I’m with him.
Which means, his heart could also be racing when he is around me.
I briefly tell him that too much excitement isn't good for Syo-kun.
Natsuki Shinomiya: And why would that be bad?
Haruka Nanami: That’s because… it just is.
There’s no way I can tell him the reason, so I cut my answer short. Yet…
Natsuki Shinomiya: I see… Well, if it's bad, then it's bad.
Shinomiya-san simply accepts without pressing further.
Haruka Nanami: Um, Shinomiya-san… Could it be that you know about Syo-kun’s condition?
In reaction to my words, Shinomiya-san gently puts his finger on my lips—
—And smiles without uttering a single word.
Shinomiya-san… you really must have figured it out.
He has noticed it but hasn't asked about it any further.
He’s truly a kind person.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Wait, Nanami-san, so Syo-chan’s heart races when he’s with you?
His voice is kind as he asks.
Haruka Nanami: ... That… seems to be the case. But as partners, we have to practice a lot together, so…
Natsuki Shinomiya: In that case, I think we should just work it out as the three of us.
Haruka Nanami: What, the three of us?
Shinomiya-san smiles sweetly in response.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Yes, I mean, my former partner just so happened to have dropped out of the academy due to violating the school rules.
Natsuki Shinomiya: It would help me out a lot if we were to debut together.
Forming a trio for the graduation audition? That thought hasn’t crossed my mind before.
Plus, in doing so, Syo-kun and I wouldn’t be alone together anymore, so his heart wouldn’t race.
We immediately return to the dormitory and announce to Syo-kun that we should work as a trio from now on.
Haruka Nanami: With two performing on stage, there is always someone who can cover for the other in case something happens. Personally, I think it’s a great idea!
Syo Kurusu: NO WAY! Why do I need to follow up after him?!
While I personally like our idea, Syo-kun snaps back in discontent.
Natsuki Shinomiya: You would hate it that much?
Syo Kurusu: Dang right, I would! Nothing with you is ever good! Remember last time…
Natsuki Shinomiya: But… I’ve lost my partner… You are the only one I can rely on now, Syo-chan…
Shinomiya-san casts his eyes down pitifully.
Wait, but didn’t Shinomiya-san’s partner already leave last month…?
Wouldn’t someone in dire need of a new partner have reached out sooner…?
Oh, or could it be… is he… doing this for Syo-kun?
Natsuki Shinomiya: Hey, Syo-chan, do you hate me?
Shinomiya-san clenches Syo-kun’s hand and asks with teary eyes.
Syo Kurusu: Hate…? What are you talking about… Don’t look at me like that! You’re making me look like the bad guy!
Natsuki Shinomiya: But, Syo-chan, you said you’d hate being with me…
Syo Kurusu: Ah…
Haruka Nanami: I’m also begging you. Please, let’s work together as a trio!
Syo Kurusu: … AHH, FINE! Whatever, let’s just do it!
Haruka Nanami: Really?! I’m so happy!
Syo Kurusu: I get it, now stop looking at me like an abandoned puppy! And you, Natsuki, let go of my hand already! IT HURTS!
Shinomiya-san instantly lets go of Syo-kun’s hand and looks at me with a broad smile.
Ah, I knew it. Shinomiya-san persuaded Syo-kun because he is aware of his circumstances.
Haruka Nanami: Thank you so much!
Natsuki Shinomiya: Yippie! I love you, Syo-chan!
Shinomiya-san gives Syo-kun a vigorous hug.
He looks so happy while doing so. Shinomiya-san really must love Syo-kun a lot.
Syo Kurusu: Idiot—Ouch! I said it hurts! LET ME GOOO—!
Then, the three of us went to the principal to negotiate with him.
At first, he was against it, saying that there has never been a unit that won the graduation audition before.
Thankfully, Shinomiya-san didn’t give up until he persuaded the principal, thus allowing us to work as a trio.
It must be nice to have such a great friend who works so hard for you…
Syo-kun had invited me to the amusement park on our day off today.
Haruka Nanami: Um, t-thank you for inviting me today…
I can’t help but get excited. I mean, this is like a date!
Haruka Nanami: But can I ask why you invited me all of a sudden?
Syo Kurusu: Well… It’s part of a prince’s duty to entertain his servants. Plus, it’s i-important to take a break from time to time…
Syo-kun… did you notice that I was struggling with my recent composition…?
Up until recently, I just made solo songs for Syo-kun to sing, but now Shinomiya-san has to sing with him.
So I started remaking the song from scratch. I’ve been trying so hard on it, but I ended up in a slump.
Syo-kun, the fact that you noticed that makes me so happy.
Haruka Nanami: Yeah, thank you!
Syo Kurusu: C’mon, let’s go! Forget about the song for today and just enjoy yourself!
With that said, Syo-kun offers me his hand, but…
Natsuki Shinomiya: Yep!
The one who takes Syo-kun’s hand firmly is Shinomiya-san.
Syo Kurusu: Uwah! Natsuki… Where on earth did you come from…
Natsuki Shinomiya: Hehe, I can’t wait to explore the amusement park!
T-that surprised me. I haven’t noticed him this whole time… When did he…
I really can’t predict him.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Hey, Nanami-san, what should we ride first? Anything you definitely want to check out?
Syo Kurusu: Listen to what people say to you!!
Haruka Nanami: Oh, um, I would… um…
I glance at Syo-kun…
Syo Kurusu: ... Good grief, getting in the way each and every single time… Sorry, Haruka, would it be okay for him to join us?
He is complaining but still asks.
Syo-kun doesn’t seem to blame Shinomiya-san either.
Maybe Syo-kun knows that Shinomiya-san is worried about him.
Both of them seem aware of the other’s realization, so they don’t mention it. I think that’s kind of nice.
Haruka Nanami: But of course!
Natsuki Shinomiya: Hehe, it’s just more fun with the three of us.
Syo Kurusu: Speak for yourself…
Syo-kun makes a quip to which Shinomiya-san just laughs.
Those two really match. They are such good friends~
Natsuki Shinomiya: Since we’re all here, let’s hold hands! You’ll be in the middle~
Haruka Nanami: Huh? Hold hands…?
That would be a little embarrassing…
Natsuki Shinomiya: You don’t want to hold hands with Syo-chan? Then link arms with me instead.
Syo Kurusu: YOU IDIOT! That’s even worse! I really can’t take a break or let my guard down with you.
Haruka Nanami: Now, now…
As we’re causing a bit of a scene…
Hooligan: Hey, get a room already! I can’t take this anymore!
Eek… A prime example of a delinquent is staring daggers at us.
So s-scary…
Natsuki Shinomiya: I’ll handle this.
Shinomiya-san swiftly positions himself in front of the delinquent while covering me behind him.
Haruka Nanami: U-um… Shinomiya-san…
Natsuki Shinomiya: The three of us are having fun right now. May I ask you to leave us alone?
Shinomiya-san declares resolutely to the delinquent.
Hooligan: Shut up, you sissy!
Bam!
The delinquent directly hit Shinomiya-san’s face, making him fall on the spot.
Haruka Nanami: S-Shinomiya-san!
Hooligan: Hey there, Miss~ Leave that guy behind and have some fun with me instead!
He grabs my shoulder and starts pulling me.
Haruka Nanami: W-what…?
W-w-w-w-w-w-what should I do?? He even made Shinomiya-san fall, so this man must be very strong…
Is it better if I obediently follow along…?
Syo Kurusu: You… She belongs to me! Get your hands off her!
Syo-kun says and dashes towards the delinquent. And then…
Bam! Whoop! Clap!
Hooligan: Gah…
The delinquent is easily beaten up by Syo-kun.
A-amazing! Someone who has brought Shinomiya-san to the ground is now this easily…
Syo-kun really is remarkably strong.
Haruka Nanami: Wow… Syo-kun is so strong…
Syo Kurusu: This much isn’t anything special. Plus, it’s a prince’s duty to protect his servant.
Haruka Nanami: Syo-kun…
Yep, he’s so cool…
Syo Kurusu: C’mon, Natsuki, you’ve slept enough, time to wake up…!!! Woah! H-his glasses!
… It seems that the strike earlier has broken Shinomiya-san’s glasses…
Haruka Nanami: W-w-w-what do we do?
Terrible things happen when Shinomiya-san takes off his glasses…
Syo Kurusu: Yeah… What should we do…
We look at each other, at a loss as to what to do.
Not only is the frame bent, but even the lenses are shattered into tiny pieces. This isn’t something we can easily fix…
Hooligan: Ugh…
Syo Kurusu: Ah, that’s it! Let’s borrow this guy’s sunglasses and put them on Natsuki!
Haruka Nanami: What… but, those aren’t normal glasses…
Syo Kurusu: It’s close enough! He just has to wear them till we get back to the dorms, so we can get his spare glasses.
Haruka Nanami: O-okay… I’ll give it a try!
I quietly take the sunglasses from the delinquent and put them on Shinomiya-san.
… Uh… T-they don't suit him at all.
Syo Kurusu: Pff! They look so bad! And sunglasses don’t suit Natsuki at all! He looks like a delinquent boy from the 80s!
Haruka Nanami: D-don’t laugh! He might notice something’s off. Also…
I glance over at Shinomiya-san and am about to laugh, so I desperately try to hold it in.
Haruka Nanami: This isn’t Shinomiya-san’s fault, it’s the sunglasses! I’m sure there are sunglasses that would suit him… I think.
As we are trying to resist the urge to laugh, suddenly, Shinomiya-san wakes up.
Natsuki Shinomiya: ... Hn? Why is my vision so dark…?
Syo Kurusu: You’re i-imagining things! It’s nothing, I swear! Puhaha!
Haruka Nanami: Yeah! It’s just your imagination! A-at any rate, we should return home for now.
Natsuki Shinomiya: Why?
The oblivious Shinomiya-san peers at Syo-kun’s face.
Syo Kurusu: W-well, y’know… Pfft! I… I left something behind!
Natsuki Shinomiya: ... You left something?
Shinomiya-san, puzzled, tilts his head as he looks at Syo-kun, seemingly noticing Syo-kun’s suspicious behavior.
Syo Kurusu: That’s right, so move it!
Syo-kun, unable to bear this situation anymore, seizes Shinomiya-san’s hand and drags him back all the way to the dorms.
Back at the dorms, we exchange the sunglasses for a spare set of Shinomiya-san’s glasses. With that, everything has been resolved without a hitch.
Sometimes we end up in stressful situations like this. Syo-kun’s condition has calmed down, and our practice sessions go well overall.
It doesn’t take me long to finish their song soon after. And thus, the three of us take up the challenge of the graduation audition, and…
We seize the win in utter victory.
Syo Kurusu: We won! Well, I always believed that we could do it as long as you were with me!
After the graduation audition, the two of us walk to the dorms with the trophy in hand.
Haruka Nanami: Yeah, and with Shinomiya-san.
I say, but we did leave him behind because he is held up by the audience…
Oh well, he seemed to enjoy it, so it would have been rude to interrupt him. I’m sure this is for the best.
Syo Kurusu: Sigh… I guess. I’ll leave it at that for now. Also, be careful not to mention Natsuki so carelessly. If we speak of the devil, he… Agh!
Tramp, tramp, tramp, tramp, tramp, tramp!
Natsuki Shinomiya: SYO-CHAAA—N!!
Syo Kurusu: Shoot! I knew it! He already caught up to us! Haruka, let’s run!
Syo-kun seizes my hand and pulls me along as he starts running!
Haruka Nanami: What? What?
Syo Kurusu: Just run! It’ll be a pain in the butt if we get caught by Natsuki when he’s so worked up! And…
Syo Kurusu: I want to be alone with you for a bit longer!
Haruka Nanami: Huh, w-what? I can’t hear you…
Syo Kurusu: It’s nothing! Get ready, I’ll go full speed now! Hold on tight! Let’s gooo—!!
And so the three of us debut together and become employed at the Shining Agency.
His rich, strong, and splendid voice captivates the audience.
His singing is full of trembling emotion and burning passion.
His feelings seem almost tangible–a song that reaches the soul.
Masaomi: Masato… you… You’ve grown this much…
He may seem collected on the outside, but he burns on the inside. His love reaches the deepest part of your heart.
Hijirikawa-sama finishes his song and bows his head, inviting a roaring applause and cheers from the audience.
Everyone has become enamored by Hijirikawa-sama’s voice.
Haruka Nanami: Oh… what? That’s odd…
My tears are overflowing endlessly.
I should be happy… This is Hijirikawa-sama’s time in the spotlight… and yet my vision is so blurry that I can’t see.
I’m so nervous about the announcement of the results. We must win this or else.
But we can’t just pass this audition, we need to win… If we don’t, we can’t be together anymore.
Despite thinking to myself that we’ll surely win, my legs tremble underneath me.
Ringo Tsukimiya: We have decided! The winner of this year’s graduation audition is…
Dear God, please let Hijirikawa-sama win…
Ringo Tsukimiya: Masato Hijirikawa!
We did it… Thank goodness! I’m so glad.
Thump.
My legs buckle, and I drop to the floor sitting up and start sobbing.
Masato Hijirikawa: … Thank you very much.
Hijirikawa-sama politely bows his head and takes his trophy.
Ringo Tsukimiya: Your song was wonderful! I was so moved that I shed some tears. You appeared to be so tranquil when I first met you.
Ringo Tsukimiya: It was such a passionate song. I felt a deep love for music in it. I wish you the best for your future efforts!
And then…
Masato Hijirikawa: I’m back…
Haruka Nanami: Ah… W-welcome back.
I hurriedly wipe away my tears and stand up.
Masato Hijirikawa: … Were… you crying?
Haruka Nanami: What…?
Masato Hijirikawa: Your cheeks… have dried tears on them.
Hijirikawa-sama traces my cheek with his finger.
Haruka Nanami: … Your song reached my heart… that’s why…
Masato Hijirikawa: I see… It seems my feelings have reached you. I’m glad.
Hijirikawa-sama grins.
And over there is…
Masaomi: Masato…
Once Hijirikawa-sama’s father arrives, we jump apart from each other.
Masato Hijirikawa: … Father… you are here, I see!
Hijirikawa-sama steps in front of me as he speaks, as if concealing me.
Masaomi: Fujikawa was pestering me…
Fujikawa… Does he mean Jiiya-san? But why did Jiiya-san do that?
Masaomi: He gets reckless when something concerns you. It’s quite irritating, however…
As his father stares into his eyes, Hijirikawa-sama clenches his fists in apprehension.
Masaomi: I now understand why he insisted that I should come today. I listened to your song.
Masato Hijirikawa: … So what do you think?
Masaomi: Not good enough. You’re far from the level of being professional.
Hijirikawa-sama looks down dejectedly.
Masato Hijirikawa: Is that so…
Masaomi: But I liked the look in your eyes.
Masaomi: I’ve never seen that look on your face. I’ve always thought that your happiness would be taking over for our family.
Masaomi: But it seems that I was mistaken. Children really do grow up without their parents realizing it.
Masaomi: You’ve always been apathetic with everything I had you do, so to see you being able to sing a song that moves people really surprised me.
Masato Hijirikawa: Father… does that mean…!
Hijirikawa-sama abruptly lifts his head. Hope shines in his eyes.
Masaomi: But I will not give you approval so easily. Consider this just an extension of your grace period.
Masaomi: A promise is a promise. I won’t go back on my word. If you don’t shape up in a year, you must return immediately. Got it?
Hijirikawa-sama’s father turns around and begins walking away.
Masato Hijirikawa: … Yes, sir.
Masaomi: … Your song was quite good. Looks like you found a good partner.
With his back to us, he mumbles a few words as he continues to walk.
Masato Hijirikawa: My father… that man praised me? He’s never praised me no matter what I did…
Masato Hijirikawa: This is the first time he has ever praised me… Haru, it’s… it’s all thanks to you. Your song was fantastic.
Hijirikawa-sama smiles at me, his eyes shining with tears.
Haruka Nanami: It’s not on me. That song was born thanks to you.
Haruka Nanami: The only person who can sing my songs in such a beautiful way is you, Masato-kun…
Hijirikawa-sama grins and gently embraces me.
Haruka Nanami: Masato… kun?
Masato Hijirikawa: I was only thinking of you when I was singing. You gave me hope during that snowy day when I was in despair about my life.
Masato Hijirikawa: And to think I would be able to meet you again in this academy… Not to mention how impactful this reunion was.
Masato Hijirikawa: The feeling of your lips still remains on mine.
As Hijirikawa-sama speaks, he puts his index finger on his lips.
Masato Hijirikawa: After I became your partner, I discovered that you were the girl from back then, and my heart was shaken. I thought that this must be destiny.
Masato Hijirikawa: Then, before I knew it, I fell in love with you… However, I had to give you up for the sake of my dream.
Masato Hijirikawa: Or that’s what I thought…
Haruka Nanami: … I see.
He must’ve been in so much pain, worrying so much during that time.
Masato Hijirikawa: Please don’t make such a sad face. I don’t want to make you cry.
His large hand strokes my head, causing me to look down towards my chest.
Masato Hijirikawa: I’ll become stronger, so I will never make you cry ever again.
Haruka Nanami: Okay.
At that moment…
Thud!
Shining Saotome: Hmm, you two seem to be getting pretty mushy right now! Perhaps being LOVEY-DOVEY with each other?
Haruka Nanami: P-Principal!!!
The principal dropped from the ceiling above the wing.
Masato Hijirikawa: … So it really is futile to hide anything from him…
Masato Hijirikawa: Yes, we are in love with each other. There’s no reason to hide it at this point.
Masato Hijirikawa: However, we aren’t just in love. We are connected on a deeper, spiritual level.
Hijirikawa-sama squeezes my hand.
Masato Hijirikawa: We prioritized our dreams of becoming professionals and once tried to give up our love for each other.
Shining Saotome: That’s a wise decision! Give up your love, please!
Masato Hijirikawa: However… I wasn’t able to sing good songs while I was lying to myself.
Masato Hijirikawa: I don’t mind concealing our relationship from the public. However, the only thing my heart can’t lie about is my love for her.
Shining Saotome: Hmm… love, you say?
Masato Hijirikawa: Is it so unforgivable to go through with your love–to be true to your feelings?
Shining Saotome: However, it’s disadvantageous for an idol to be in a relationship! Your popularity will be in peril!
Haruka Nanami: Masato-kun… I-I also can’t suppress my feelings of love.
Shining Saotome: Hmm!? That’s also love! And I am the preacher of love!
Shining Saotome: If you swear that your relationship won’t leak until you become a top idol, then I’ll let you pass! But if you slip up, you’re immediately fired!
Masato Hijirikawa: Ahh… Thank you so much!
Haruka Nanami: Thank you!!
We returned home while holding hands.
Masato Hijirikawa: We may have passed the graduation exam, but this isn’t over yet. The struggle has just begun.
Masato Hijirikawa: I promised the principal to keep this relationship a secret for quite some time.
Masato Hijirikawa: However, I believe that with you, we will overcome this obstacle and achieve something great. Do you also believe in me?
Haruka Nanami: I do.
Masato Hijirikawa: I see… I’m glad, Haru…
Masato Hijirikawa: That time was an accident, but not now… This time it’s…
Hijirikawa-sama gazes into my eyes in silence.
Masato Hijirikawa: Haru… Will you grant me the honor of kissing you?
Haruka Nanami: But, we need to hide our relationship…
Masato Hijirikawa: Yes, I know, but right now it’s only the two of us.
Masato Hijirikawa: Are we not allowed to be true to ourselves even when we’re alone together?
Haruka Nanami: … Of course not, I want to be honest as well…
Masato Hijirikawa: I love you. You’re the only one I love… Nn…
Haruka Nanami: Nn…
… Such a kind kiss.
When we draw back from each other, Hijirikawa-sama looks at me with a smile again.
Masato Hijirikawa: Shall we go somewhere together next time? We can go to a plateau to see shooting stars, or go look at the ocean during a sunset. Perhaps we can go to a hill to see the night view…
Masato Hijirikawa: I’ll whisper my love to you and make my eternal vows. I will always be with you, Haru, so…
Masato Hijirikawa: I want you to always be by my side.
Haruka Nanami: Yes, I will.
He pulls me into a tight embrace.
Masato Hijirikawa: Together, we have to work harder to become professionals… I’ll become a top-class idol.
Haruka Nanami: Yes, of course!
Masato Hijirikawa: Then, one day, we’ll make our relationship public…!
Masato Hijirikawa: We’re not free now, but I will make you happy at all costs! That is a promise.
From then on, we become employees of the Shining Agency, and he takes his first step on his path to becoming a star.
When the dance party begins, Otoya-kun and I take each other’s hands and begin to dance.
He’s gentle and has a strong lead. I’m able to relax and follow along.
I understand where to take my next step and how to move without even thinking.
We’re perfectly in sync, so much so that I want to dance with him like this forever.
Otoya Ittoki: Phew, I’m a bit tired. I’m going to get a drink. Wait here for me!
Haruka Nanami: Alright.
As I watch Otoya-kun run far into the hall, I feel someone bump into my shoulder.
Tokiya Ichinose: … My apologies… Hm? If I’m not mistaken, you’re Otoya’s…
Haruka Nanami: Ah, y-yes! I am Haruka Nanami.
It’s Ichinose-san… The longer I look at him, the more he looks like HAYATO-sama to me…
Tokiya Ichinose: I watched your performance in October. You made a good decision at that time.
Haruka Nanami: Huh…?
By October, he must mean the school festival… Ichinose-san must’ve come to see us.
Tokiya Ichinose: You were able to skillfully cover up that idiot’s mistake on the spot. That was a good song you played as well. I wish you were my composer…
Haruka Nanami: No… I didn’t do much at all.
Tokiya Ichinose: It’s not too late. You belong in S class.
Haruka Nanami: Huh…?
Tokiya Ichinose: … No, I’m joking. That’s just what I wish. I’m not lying about how I feel, though.
I’m not sure what to say to that… While I am bewildered, the song for the dance begins to play.
Tokiya Ichinose: Since we’re at this party together, how about we dance to one song? There was that incident at the pool, so I would like to dance with you as an apology…
Ugh… It’s hard to turn him down because he has the same face as HAYATO-sama…
Haruka Nanami: … Okay.
I agree to dance with him for one song. He’s… quite good.
We have never practiced together before, but he is matching my pace perfectly.
As we dance, I glance up at him. The moment my eyes meet his, he gives me the finest HAYATO-sama smile.
…
I know this man isn’t HAYATO-sama… but I’m reeling…
Tokiya Ichinose: About what I said earlier… if you were able to change to S Class, would you?
Haruka Nanami: Huh? I-I…
Tokiya Ichinose: I’ve thought about this ever since I heard your music. You can’t utilize your skills to the fullest in A Class. You should come to S Class…
Haruka Nanami: No, I’m not that amazing…
Tokiya Ichinose: No, I can tell you have a special talent. I am quite interested in it.
Tokiya Ichinose: This academy is run by Saotome-san’s rules. You won’t be able to change what he decides, but if he says yes…
Haruka Nanami: Umm… What are you…
Tokiya Ichinose: If you are able to convince Saotome-san, it’s not impossible for you to change to S Class.
Haruka Nanami: …
Tokiya Ichinose: Oh, the song has ended. Our dance finishes here.
Otoya Ittoki: Ahh! What are you doing?! She’s my partner!
Otoya Ittoki: I can’t let this pass just because it’s you, Tokiya! Are you okay, Haruka? Did he do anything to you?
Haruka Nanami: N-no…
Tokiya Ichinose: How rude… I know how to treat women. Don’t assume I’m the same as you, sir simpleton.
Otoya Ittoki: Hrm?! Just quit it already and go away! Your partner must’ve run away from you because of that attitude of yours!
Tokiya Ichinose: That has nothing to do with this. Oh well, I’ll take my leave for now. Anyway, farewell, Nanami-kun…
Tokiya Ichinose: Ah, I just remembered. Please take what I said into consideration…
Ichinose-san says to me as he turns, then leaves with a smile.
Haruka Nanami: Ummm…
Otoya Ittoki: Into consideration? He was unusually enthusiastic during your conversation earlier… I’m curious, what did he say?
Haruka Nanami: Umm… Well, Ichinose-san tried scouting me… to be his composer…
Otoya Ittoki: Huh, scouting? What the?! That’s out of the question!
Shining Saotome: HA HA HA~! I heard everything!
All of a sudden, the principal’s voice reverberates through the hall.
Otoya Ittoki: Oh, that old man again… Where’s he going to pop out now?
I see a hand extend out of the grand piano that’s right in front of us, and then the principal appears.
Otoya Ittoki: I’m not even surprised, no matter where he comes out from anymore. I’m scared of myself.
Haruka Nanami: But that piano was playing very beautifully. How did the principal fit inside of it?
Shining Saotome: HA HA HA~! Don’t sweat the details.
Shining Saotome: It’s just a bit of an illusion! There are some tricks to it!
Shining Saotome: AND! I grant YOU the permission to transfer to S Class! You should use your talent to its full potential!
The principal proclaims and dramatically points at me.
Huh? WHAAAT?!
Shining Saotome: HA HA HA~ Mr. Ichinose’s judgment is correct! YOUR skill is so monstrous that even S Class would be shocked!
Otoya Ittoki: Hey, wait, old man! This is too sudden, what about me?!
Shining Saotome: Oh, Otoya-san. I completely forgot about your existence. That’s my mistake!
Shining Saotome: Sorry, sorry, starry, calamari…*
*Translation Note: Pun literally means “Sorry, sorry, dog sledding”
Otoya Ittoki: My existence…? Old man, you must be doing this on purpose! I don’t believe you could slip up that badly!
Shining Saotome: HA HA HA~! You saw right through me! I have failed the Break-Up Plan!
Otoya Ittoki: What do you mean, Break-Up Plan?! … I always end up becoming the straight man when I’m talking to you, old man.
Shining Saotome: But it’s fine. If I do a bad job pulling you two apart, it might actually make your sparks fly even more…
Shining Saotome: So anyway, Mr. Ittoki, YOU should also transfer to S Class!
Shining Saotome: YOU can make it in S Class now! Well, I actually have no clue if I’m right about that, but it’ll be okie dokie!
Otoya Ittoki: Huh? Okie dokie…? Don’t say such irresponsible things if you’re not sure!
Haruka Nanami: S-so…
Shining Saotome: It’s the beginning of a new life for the three of you! Fufufu, if all three of you are together, there’s no way YOU could have any romance!
Shining Saotome: YOU would be too concerned about the other person to confess to whom you like!
Shining Saotome: Strike the iron while it’s hot! Anyway, make songs for the two of them!
Shining Saotome: However, you can’t make two separate songs. That wouldn’t be fun at all!
Shining Saotome: Either have them sing the same song one after the other or have them sing simultaneously. I’ll leave that choice between the three of you.
Shining Saotome: This is the master plan to LEVEL UP Mr. Ittoki and Mr. Ichinose’s rivalry points or friendship points!
Otoya Ittoki: Would something like that really level us up?
Shining Saotome: I made that up to fool you, so just be fooled already!
Otoya Ittoki: Um, so you’re basically admitting that it won’t…
Shining Saotome: … HA HA HA~ Anyway, my word is final! Shut up and listen!
WHAAA–! That can’t be!
Otoya Ittoki: Wow, you’re as immature as always…
And so Otoya-kun and I have transferred to S Class on the principal’s whim…
Otoya Ittoki: Haruka, make my arrangement different from Tokiya’s. I want mine to have a faster pace!
Tokiya Ichinose: Saotome-san said that we have to use the same song. Did you already forget about that?
Otoya Ittoki: Ehh, it’s fine~ He said making another song wasn’t allowed, but he didn’t say we couldn’t change the arrangement.
Tokiya Ichinose: No. The feeling of the song will change. Nanami-kun, you don’t have to listen to what this idiot says.
Tokiya Ichinose: Just make the song you wish to make. And please… keep both of our parts equal.
Haruka Nanami: … Okay.
After we joined S Class, I changed the song I was making to fit both of them.
I want both of them to sing it together, but they have too much pride to do so. During the graduation audition, they end up singing the same song with different interpretations.
… However…
For some reason, both of them get first place.
Otoya Ittoki: Hurrah! It’s all thanks to you! Haruka, I love you!
When they get back to the stage wing after winning, Otoya-kun hugs me.
Haruka Nanami: U-um…
Tokiya Ichinose: What are you doing? Please adjust your behavior based on the time, place, and occasion.
Otoya Ittoki: This is no big deal! There’s only us here anyway! I’m actually holding back, you know!
Otoya Ittoki: Ma~~n, if I were alone with her, I would kiss her… if only Tokiya weren’t here.
Haruka Nanami: Oh, er…
That’s definitely not allowed… There’s the no romance rule and all…
Tokiya Ichinose: You really are an idiot. If you do that here, your victory would be withdrawn.
Tokiya Ichinose: I am definitely welcome to the idea of you disappearing, but I can’t have her leave as well.
Tokiya Ichinose: I need her to continue being my composer…
Otoya Ittoki: What’s with you? She’s not your composer, she’s mine!
Haruka Nanami: U-um, sorry but…
Tokiya Ichinose: Who decided that and when?
Otoya Ittoki: I decided that right now! Right, Haruka? You want to be with me, right?
Tokiya Ichinose: Nothing good will come out of being with that idiot. You should be with me.
Ichinose-san grabs my arm.
Haruka Nanami: Umm…
Otoya Ittoki: Stop that! I won’t hand her over to you, Tokiya!
Otoya-kun embraces my head with a tight squeeze.
W-what should I do…?
That’s when I notice…
Shining Saotome: Bravo, bravo! I’m surprised that you three are so great together! YOU should form a unit!
Shining Saotome: There’s no doubt that YOU two will become SUPER BIG idols! So PROMISINGU DESU!
The principal ends his sentence, then leaves us while laughing to himself.
Otoya Ittoki: Huh…? What is he talking about…
Tokiya Ichinose: Unit…? With him…?
Their unit debut is decided as they gape in utter amazement, unable to go against the principal’s orders.
They really are fantastic, though. I’m sure the two of them will become amazing idols.
I’m sure that they’ll boost each other with their rivalry.
I think the principal had them pair up as a unit because he’s aware of that.
And so, I have ended up joining the Shining Agency as their personal composer.
Right now, I’m making their song as they head for their debut, but…
Otoya Ittoki: Wouldn’t it be cool if we sharply raise the pitch here? Also, let’s make the tempo faster in this part!
Haruka Nanami: Huh? But wouldn’t that be hard to sing? You won’t be able to breathe.
Otoya Ittoki: It’ll be fine, Tokiya should be able to do it! Let’s give it a shot!
Haruka Nanami: Ah, o-okay then…
Tokiya Ichinose: What are you blathering about? I am a man of flesh and blood. I’m not a machine.
Tokiya Ichinose: You always do things without thinking. Stop carelessly suggesting things you’re not capable of doing.
Tokiya Ichinose: I’m always the one who gets stretched thin by your reckless behavior. I can’t stand it. You’re an impulsive idiot.
Otoya Ittoki: Impulsive…?! How mean! At least say I’m being true to my emotions!
Tokiya Ichinose: You’re speaking too highly of yourself. Impulsive idiot describes you just fine.
Otoya Ittoki: Hmph… I don’t get you… whatever.
Haruka Nanami: Hehe!
Tokiya Ichinose: What are you laughing about? You’re part of the problem. You know that he’s asking for the impossible, so you should stop him.
Tokiya Ichinose: I’m suffering because you’re making ridiculous songs with him. You two are always so…
Haruka Nanami: I-I’m sorry…!
In consequence, Ichinose-san’s lecturing continues for the next three hours.
However, we aren’t discouraged by his words and make a difficult song anyway…
So Ichinose-san becomes angry yet again.
I know I should change the song, but on the other hand, Otoya-kun and Ichinose-san are improving so much.
I end up thinking that maybe they can actually handle it.
I can work together with singers and see with my own eyes how much they’re improving.
That brings me so much joy as a composer.
Our romance became… hazy at some point, but maybe we can revisit it once we’ve established ourselves to the public…
Hi, hi! Quick question about being a translator ! You said in the post that translations will come from screen recordings (or playing the game) would that mean that /I/ specifically would have to screen record or would someone else be able to?
I don't have any access to getting the game but I do some translations on the side (learning on my own) and would be happy to help if I could!
Hello Anon!
Thank you for your ask! Excellent question! We have several option to offer but fear not, you don't have to own the game or record it on your own for we can offer those recordings instead!
If you're interested in joining then feel free to either send us a DM or fill out the form that is linked in the announcement post!
Hello! First of all I want to say I absolutely love and appreciate your translations!! I've loved Utapri for years and always knew the otome games were deeper than the anime, and I love how in depth the games get!! So thank you very much for all of your hard work despite your busy lives!! 🥰
Second, I did have a question! Were you planning on continuing the Quartet Night Memorials? It seems Camus (Camus's?) is done but I would love to read Reiji, Ai, and Ranmaru's!
Thank you very much for reading this! Have a wonderful day/night!
Hello Anon!
Thank you for taking your time to write such a sweet message!
You are right! And there are so many more games in the Utapri series to learn new things from! We certainly learned a lot of surprising things while working on this project lol
We'll keep doing our best and try to finish both Repeat and All Star for now!
That includes the memorials btw! Our main priority is to finish the endings first though we might post a few memorials inbetween!
Over the years, our group has worked hard to make two of the many Utapri games more accessible by translating them into English.
We want to take this opportunity and thank each and everyone who supports us by reading our translations! We see you and we appreciate you all! ❤
Recently, we have noticed an increase in demand for our translations and messages about future plans. We are a very small group that works on this project in our free time while maintaining day jobs, so it is difficult to keep up the pace to meet the demand.
Our goal for the future is to finish our current projects first and then start translating the next Utapri game!
We love working on this project and want to continue doing so in the future, however in order to start a new project, we have realized that we need more help.
With that in mind, we are now opening applications for people who want to join and help us!
We are a very chill and understanding group who will not force work on anyone who doesn't want it. Real life takes priority!
We are currently looking for the following:
Translators:
- Translate the Japanese text to English. There will be no raw text and content must be translated from on-screen recordings or playing the game (must know how to look up kanji manually)
Proofreaders:
- Check the English translation against the Japanese source text to see if there are any mistranslations
Editors:
- Read the translation, correct grammatical errors, and change the writing to flow smoothly
- Require strong writing ability in English
Requirements:
No MTL (machine translation) will be accepted
Have a Discord and Google account
Have a passion for learning and getting feedback
Have love for Utapri and/or an interest in otome games in general!
Preferably be over 18 years old (the game features mature topics such as sexual connotations and mental health issues. Please keep in mind that there are some elements which may be considered outdated due to it being a game from 2010)
This can be the perfect opportunity for anyone who is interested in working in similar fields in the future.
Are you interested in applying? Send us a DM on Tumblr or fill out this form!
If you have any questions, feel free to DM us for further discussion!
When I was in middle school, everyone said I was the best singer in my class and praised me. No one else around me could sing while playing the guitar.
I believed that if I enjoyed myself as I sang, everyone would smile with me.
As for Nanami, I never thought of why she aimed to become a composer in the first place.
I simply assumed she was like me and just liked songs.
But since we’ve been together every day since entering the academy, I wanted to know everything about her.
“Oh yeah, she’s a HAYATO fan… haa…”
When I saw Tokiya’s face at the dorm, I let out a sigh.
“What is with you this whole time? You sigh every time you take a look at my face, and I’m fed up with it. Are you that bitter that you lost to me?”
Tokiya asked with a hint of annoyance.
“Huh? Ah, yeah… Well, you’re not wrong about that, but on the other hand, I’m grateful that you showed me what I need to work on. Thank you! You really are amazing, Tokiya.”
“Compliments will get you nothing from me.”
He flicked his head to the side, then proceeded to read his thick book.
“... You really do look like him…”
I knew he was HAYATO’s twin brother, but he sure looked very much like him.
They were both so confident, and their singing…
“The idol she admires…”
Nanami seemed to sparkle every time she spoke about HAYATO.
Could that be what you would call “lovey-dovey eyes”? Ahh, I could really tell that she truly loved him.
It made sense. She started aiming to be a composer because she admired HAYATO.
He was an idol who managed to inspire Nanami to join Saotome Academy despite being withdrawn and shy…
Even I liked to watch Ohayaho News and often did so. I liked HAYATO quite a bit, too.
He was silly, but very diligent about his work, and skilled at singing.
That was why I understood why Nanami admired him.
But…
Every time I thought about the look on Nanami’s face when she talked about HAYATO, I felt a sharp pain in my chest.
She wanted to become a composer who makes songs for HAYATO.
Nanami had held that dream since before I met her and…she must achieve that goal at all costs.
She was heading down the path that leads to HAYATO.
It was him, not me…
Nanami said that she liked my singing, though.
Which one did she like more? My singing or HAYATO’s…?
Anyway, I was nowhere good enough. I was fully aware that I didn’t stand a chance against HAYATO.
I wanted more time. I needed to work harder…
I wanted to be on the same level as HAYATO… No, I wanted to outdo him as an idol.
I needed to put in more effort. With how I was now, I couldn’t even reach him.
“Haa… This isn’t enough…”
I mumbled to myself out loud before I was aware.
“What? I’m not giving you any.”
Tokiya glared at me.
Ah… I didn’t notice that Tokiya was pouring himself coffee now.
“No, I’m good.”
“... How unusual. Normally, you would try to steal mine.”
Tokiya observed me with a puzzled look on his face as he closed the coffee maker.
“Huh? Ah, yeah, I don’t need any. I don’t have an appetite…”
“Do you have a cold? Taking care of yourself is part of your work too, you know. Also, please don’t pass on your cold to me. You’re being a risk. If you’re ill, go to sleep already.”
He stomped over as he was scolding me, then placed a mask on my head.
“Don’t worry, this isn’t a cold… but thank you anyway, I’ll take this.”
This was probably just how Tokiya showed his concern for others.
I was thankful for the support.
But I wouldn’t lose to Tokiya, nor to HAYATO…
I wanted to be able to hold my head high and confidently say that I was the one who could sing Nanami’s songs the coolest!
I didn’t want to lose to anyone!
“I won’t lose to you at the next test!”
I shouted inside my heart as I looked at Tokiya’s back.
The night after I became Nanami’s partner, I couldn’t sleep from excitement.
A new school, new friends, and also, getting to work with the best partner ever.
I was so excited about this new beginning.
“Hey, hey, Tokiya! Listen! My partner’s the cutest girl ever! She’s a little withdrawn and easily gets embarrassed, but she seems very positive and hardworking!”
After I had returned to my dorm room that night, I talked about Nanami to Tokiya, my roommate.
"ɪ sᴇᴇ. ɢᴏᴏᴅ ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ."
Tokiya was sitting at his desk, reading a thick textbook and repeating the same words over and over like a chant.
“Also, I’m glad Nanami made it in the end, but I was so worried when she got off the train!”
"ɪ sᴇᴇ. ɢᴏᴏᴅ ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ."
“I’m so glad she made it on time! I never thought we'd end up in the same class, and even become partners at that!”
"ɪ sᴇᴇ. ɢᴏᴏᴅ ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ."
“Heeey, hello? Are you listening to me?”
"ɪ sᴇᴇ. ɢᴏᴏᴅ ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ."
“…”
“Toookiya, hey, Tokiya!”
I grabbed his shoulders from behind and tried rocking him back and forth.
"ɪ sᴇᴇ. ɢᴏᴏᴅ ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ."
Hmm, this wasn't working either.
“Huh? You aren’t listening, are you? Ma~n, there are sooo many things I want to tell you, like what happened on the rooftop…
So today, Nanami and I went to the school’s rooftop. I sang on the fly, but she joined my singing!”
He may not be listening, but I just couldn’t help but tell him all about it. How could I not? I was just so happy!
“She sang along with you?”
Tokiya stopped reading his book and turned to look at me.
Ah, amazing. He hadn't responded at all up until now…
Did he respond to the word “singing”? Or maybe because I’m talking about music?
Well, whatever it may be, at least he was listening to me! That’s great!
“Yeah! We sang a lot together!”
“I see… That’s an exceptional person you’ve got there. You must be quite fortunate to have found a partner that matches you.”
That was all he said before he turned around once more to face his desk and read his book.
Yes, he’s right!
I’m, like, super lucky!
And I was just so excited, after all!
Ah, I just couldn’t wait for tomorrow…!
Wait a minute… I was way too excited and couldn’t sleep a wink, and I ended up oversleeping…
When I woke up in the morning, Tokiya was already gone and my alarm clock was shut off. Ahh, crap! I’m running late on the first day!
I leapt out of bed, got dressed in a hurry, grabbed my bag, and sprinted out the door.
I ran as fast as I could as the chime rang for the first class, urging me to hurry up.
Ding-dong, ding-dong…
I jumped into the classroom on the last ring, but…
“Aaand, too bad, Oto-kun. You’re late!”
Rin-chan wrote down “LATE” on his attendance sheet.
“Whaaat? I made it, though! I was in the room just a moment before the chime finished, right?”
I looked around the classroom and asked everyone.
“... Ah… yes. I think you were faster…”
Nanami bashfully raised her hand and agreed.
“Really? Hmm… But there’s no doubt that you were cutting it close. Ah! In that case, I’ll forgive you if you help me out a little after school.”
“Really?! Yaaay, I’m so lucky! Thank you, Rin-chan!”
I approached my seat with glee.
“Thanks, Nanami!”
She may be shy, but she raised her hand just for me. I’m happy about that.
Then, after school…
“Here you go! Finish this by the end of today!”
Rin-chan dropped a stack of printouts in front of me.
“These are the printouts for tomorrow’s performance practice. There are 50 pages total, so please line up all the pages in order per person in class. Here are some clips. Please bring them to the teacher’s office once you’re finished.”
Rin-chan said lightheartedly and left with a smile.
“Gotcha!”
Hmm… this is a lot…
But I’ll do my best!
“… Ittoki-kun.”
“Ah… Nanami! Are you done cleaning?”
Nanami had finished cleaning up the girls’ locker room and had come back to the classroom.
“Yes… What about you, Ittoki-kun?”
“Ah, I’m helping out Rin-chan. He’s going to use this for tomorrow’s class.”
“That’s a lot of paper…”
She stared at the tower of printouts with wide eyes.
“It is what it is. I have to do my best so he clears my late attendance! Ah, but I’m so sorry, this is going to take a while, so I don’t think I can make it to today's practice. Can we do it tomorrow?”
“Yes, that’s fine, but… um… may I help you with that?”
She asked timidly, but her words hit me by surprise.
“Huh...? You're fine with that?”
You're willing to help? This is a ton of work, y'know?
“Yes. We're partners, after all. I want to do my best... together.”
She looked down bashfully with a bright red face.
“Thank you! I'm so happy! Let's get through this!”
“My pleasure!”
Nanami looked up and answered me with a smile.
Oh, what a cute smile! She’s so adorable!
Nanami’s withdrawn and shy, so she often looks at her feet, but she’s so cute when she smiles.
But that’s such a waste.
“Hey, Nanami.”
“Yes, what is it?”
Nanami had already rolled up her sleeves and was lining up the printouts in order of page number.
“Well, y’know, I just wanted to tell you that you have a pretty cute smile, Nanami.”
“!!!”
The printouts slipped out of Nanami’s fingers as she stood there in shock.
“Ah… ah… ah… Um…! I-I-I-I-I-I-I’m so sorry, I-I’ll pick that up!”
Panicking, she kneeled down and collected the printouts.
“Ah, I’m sorry! I’ll help you pick that up…”
“… I’m sorry. Thank you.”
She kept looking at the floor, avoiding eye contact.
It really was such a waste.
I wanted to properly talk to her while looking into her eyes.
“Ah, t-then, um, please take one printout from each stack starting from one end and clip all of them together.”
She carefully placed the printouts she picked up on the desk.
She then picked up the printouts one by one and started layering them in order.
However, she kept looking down and wouldn’t look at me.
Hmm…
“Hey, since we’re here, let’s talk about all kinds of things. I want to know you better!”
“!!!”
I bent down to make eye contact and talk to her, but Nanami jolted and began to tremble.
“… Ah… um… uh…”
She gripped the printouts in her arms and looked down.
“Hey, lift your face, you’re cute, after all! Let’s talk face to face.”
“N-no, we can’t, I mean, I can’t!”
Nanami squeezed her eyes shut.
“… Why? Could it be that you don’t like talking to me…?”
I wanted to get closer to her since she was my partner.
“N-no… that’s… not it... It’s because… um… I’ve never been called cute before… and… your smile is as bright as the sun, Ittoki-kun, so… I can’t look at it directly… um...”
She became bright red and hung her head even lower.
Whoa! She blushed over something this little? Nanami was way shier than I thought.
“I see… I’m like the sun? That makes me feel a little shy, but I’m happy! I don’t want to force you—you’re pretty cute when you’re being bashful, too. I’d be happy if you smiled at me whenever you felt like it!”
“... Okay!”
Despite her tightly gripping the papers and blushing bright red, she timidly looked up at me and gave me a little smile.
“Thank you! Sooo let’s get the ball rolling!”
“Okay!”
It took us until nighttime to finish our tasks.
“Phew, I’m exhausted. Sorry you were stuck doing this with me. Was that too much?”
“Ah… I’m fine… I actually love chores!”
“Huh…? Really? That’s unusual.”
I don’t like chores at all.
“Well… I can do it at my own pace, and I have fun thinking of ways to do the work more efficiently. When I do it, I feel like even someone like me can be useful to other people… It gives me joy.”
“I see, you’re very kind. Thank you so much! You really did me a great favor. I’m sorry for keeping you here so late.”
After that, we went back to the dormitories together. I did most of the talking while we were walking back, but Nanami listened intently, sometimes being surprised or impressed at what I said.
I was happy that she tried her best to pay full attention to me and talk to me despite not being great at conversation.
She seemed to be trying to close the gap between us, now that we’re partners.
I’m also going to do my best to match Nanami’s pace little by little!
After that, we gradually became friendlier with each other.
At first, Nanami seemed kind of unreliable and a bit clumsy, but she was actually quite determined.
Her notes from class were organized neatly, and when I asked her a question, she answered thoroughly.
She always had band-aids on her, so she treated me when I got injured.
When I forgot my wallet, she even shared her bento with me!
She always made songs so incredibly awesome that I sometimes wondered if I was even suited to sing them.
Partners should be two halves of one soul. They should always be helping each other.
That was what Sensei said, but I felt like I was always getting help fromNanami but not the other way around.
It would be bad if things keep going on like this.
That’s why I was trying harder than I ever had before.
I wanted to support Nanami as much as she supported me! I wanted to become a man that she could depend on.
As I kept pushing myself, I felt like I had grown up, even if it was just a little bit.
I was having so much fun with Nanami. I was meeting her not only after school, but during our days off as well.
Even during Golden Week, when I wasn’t doing my one-off part-time jobs, I was always singing with her from morning to night, making songs, and listening to music we liked.
Nanami and I figured that since we were partners, that was normal.
But when I asked other classmates, they would say, “We’re not together all the time like you two!”
That was odd. Wouldn’tit make more sense to work together as much as you could to win the graduation ceremony?
Aah, I see. Maybe it was because it was Nanami.
I was never uncomfortable when I was with her. To be honest, I wanted to be with her for as long as possible.
Maybe that was why I could be with her for such long periods of time.
I didn’t think I'd ever met anyone I got along this well with…
I thought Nanami might be special to me.
The moment that thought crossed my mind, my heart skipped a beat.
What was that feeling…
Also, right after Golden Week, that old man told me out of the blue that I would be doing the “Idol Strengthening Training from Hell.”
Nanami and I ended up having to do a three-legged race together around the academy.
I’d done the three-legged race in sports festivals many times before, but this was the first time I’d done this race with a girl.
That was why I was pretty nervous, but Nanami was even more nervous than I was. Apparently, it was her first time doing a three-legged race.
Our shoulders were pressed against each other, and our faces were very close to each other, so it was easy to tell that Nanami was very nervous…
I felt my heart beating faster and faster…
I needed to stay focused to lead Nanami, but I was so flustered that my chest feels tight.
AAAH! Get a grip, me!!
If I couldn't keep my cool, Nanami would be too worried!
I had to get a hold of myself!
I pulled myself together, put my arm around Nanami, and ran for it, praying that she wouldn't notice how nervous I was.
When we entered the school, we had a hard time because it was filled with traps.
We were already running for our lives when a huge ball came rolling towards us. In any case, I had to protect Nanami at all costs!
I forgot to even breathe. I just held Nanami and jumped.
I was at the end of my rope when I jumped into the classroom. With Nanami in my arms, I leaned my back against the door of the classroom and sank to the floor.
Without thinking, I tightened my arms around Nanami.
“Ah… um…”
Nanami spoke with a reserved voice.
“Ah… sorry…”
Ah! I didn’t mean to…
I knew I wasn’t supposed to do that, and that it would just trouble her…
However… I didn’t feel like letting her go.
“But, could we stay like this for a minute?”
I realized I was mumbling that to myself.
“Ah, that. Er… When you sit down holding onto a cushion or a stuffed animal, don’t you feel relieved? It makes me feel comfortable… like, it calms me down…?”
I panicked and made up a ridiculous excuse.
What the heck was I saying… Ah man, I felt so embarrassed…
I bet she was sick of me now… Haaa…
Sheesh, I just kept making a fool of myself in front of you, huh…
But no matter how uncool I was, or how much I ended up embarrassing myself, Nanami would never laugh at me.
That was why I could relax. What could this be? I felt like I could be myself around her…
I didn’t exactly understand why, but I felt like I could relax around Nanami.
Even now... she was so warm and soft, and her hair… her shampoo smelled nice…
Her arms were so thin and squishy, I felt like she would break if I squeezed her even more…
She was a girl… She was my best friend… My partner… And she always supported me.
But… she was a delicate girl.
I must protect her. No, that wasn’t right. I wanted to protect her!
You always brought me joy. That was why I wanted to give you joy.
I wanted to support you at your pace like a three-legged race.
“Okay! Charge complete! You’re a lifesaver, Nanami.”
Nanami smiled at me.
After that, we jumped out of the classroom and continued the three-legged race.
Let’s do this! We would get that Idol’s Endorsement together!
Hello! Thank you very much for translating the two first games!! I'm curious to know how much content remains to be translated from the first game. I have noticed that the translations in some routes, love and friend ending, are still missing. Besides those there are other things missing?
Hello Anon!
Thank you for your ask! We're working on the missing endings and Memorials from Repeat and All Star at the moment.
Additionally, there are "After Episodes", which are stories that take place after the endings. We haven't touched those yet.
The Utapri games have a lot of extra content so it is difficult to get through them all, especially with our small team.
hi! i am a relatively new fan still to utapri and im finally looking to start the games after settling into the series - i was warned id be here forever and i think im ready to accept that 🤣 anyways, i wanted to ask what console is recommended for playing them on? (i have psp, vita and switch so i just need to buy them) then, if you recommend the fandisks or how important they are? they look to be full fledged games but some other series i know of, fandisks are more side content. also… i saw some preorder bonuses were drama cds, are they all just bonus content rather than being fundamental to the series? finally… i just want to thank the team here for everything! not only was my fan experience improved, but these translations impacted me in the real world as though i was playing them myself; without the team behind this blog, my life would be fundamentally different, because i wouldn’t have experienced this wonderful series.
Hello Anon! Thank you so much for the sweet message, we are so happy to hear that our translations impacted your life in such a positive way! 😭😭
Playing the games on the Switch would be best in our opinion because they are the newest versions with updated sprites and some new content. The rhythm mini games are also fairly easy to play on Switch (especially with a controller).
If you are looking for a cheaper version, then getting the PSVita games might be better, since the Switch games are just the ported version of the PSVita games (from what we know). The rhythm games are really difficult to play on PSVita due to the buttons being super small though haha
Getting the PSP games would be the cheapest option and playing the rhythm games is the most fun on PSP in our opinion. So this might be a good option to start and see if you even like playing the games.
We mainly translate from the PSP versions because that is the most available version for us. Keep in mind that some lines differ between the PSP and the PSVita/Switch versions!
The Utapri fandisks (we assume you mean Amazing Aria, Sweet Serenade, and All Star After Secret) are important to the canon. On the other hand, Utapri drama CDs tend to be side content and not essential to understanding the story.
Several days had passed since the end of the nursing project.
But one issue had come up.
Today, I planned to send a message to Haruka, who was supposed to be resting at home, saying "Don't overdo it," but...
I was unable to type a single word, so I hadn't made any progress for a while.
If left alone, she would get up and work on the song again. If she got sick again, my nursing project would have been meaningless.
At the moment, I was on standby and alone in the dressing room, waiting for the recording of a variety show to start.
I wanted to send this message before the recording started.
If it had been a work-related message, I would have used one of my many templates.
For Reiji, Syo and Natsuki, it would have been done by simply adding a "yes" or "no" option.
First of all, I don't even reach out to people if it's not work-related, let alone message someone from the same agency. There was no need to.
"What's with that face, Ai-Ai? Something up?"
"—!!"
I turned around, noticing Reiji behind me.
"Nothing. I'm just typing a message."
"To Kouhai-chan?"
He rudely peeked at the screen, so I panicked and hid my phone from him.
The one person I didn't want to see, saw it.
I forgot his name was also on the list for today's show.
"It's none of your business, Reiji."
"But! I stopped because you were looking at the screen with such a serious face! Then you didn't even notice me greeting you! I got worried!"
Was I really that immersed? I glanced down at the phone in my hand.
"Ah, don't worry! About what happened yesterday, I wrote it down and left it as a memo in my heart."
"As a memo... so you have no intention of forgetting it."
You got me!—Reiji laughed.
… That's worrying. Why was Reiji of all people even at that place?
"But hey, sending messages to girls is Rei-chan's specialty! Want some advice?"
Reiji asked, ignoring my worries.
"... I think I’m going to sit over there instead."
"That's mean!"
When I tried to change seats, Reiji pushed me back into the chair and took another look at my phone screen.
"First things first... You want to send Kouhai-chan a message to show how concerned you are about her physical condition."
"Well, something like that."
He left me no choice. Since we're already at this point, all I could do was wait for the storm to pass.
"Here, let me give you an example."
Reiji reached his arms from behind me and started typing on my phone.
"Ah, what are you...!"
"I’m worried about your health!
So don't overdo it, 'kay?
I hope you get well soon☆
Pain, pain, go away–!"
He typed it into my phone within seconds.
"..."
It was too fast for me to react when I was already looking at the finished text.
"That's the feeling for now. Then you can add an emoji at the end~ Oh, and then I suggest the last line should be something like 'Be a good girl and sleep, babe☆'."
"I doubt it..."
I sighed.
"My! You don't understand! You don't need to express your concern, you need to express your heart!"
"My heart...?"
"That's right! Especially your sympathy! One point is how you cheer up the other person when they're feeling down... But isn't this also fun to look at?"
As he shared his thoughts, Reiji quickly kept adding emojis.
A dancing bear, a shooting star and a heart symbol. Did they have any meaning?
"Today you get a special treat. I'm particularly adding many emojis today."
"That's enough."
He kept adding more emojis while standing behind me.
While I was talking to Reiji, the door to the dressing room opened.
"What...? Ya guys're also here?"
When I turned around, there was Ranmaru.
"Morning! Ah, right, Ranran should give some advice as well!"
"Advice?"
"Ai-Ai is having trouble writing a text message to a girl!"
"Reiji! Don't just blurt this out to everybody!"
"A message to a girl?"
Ranmaru looked clearly uninterested as he sat down in a chair, but Reiji shoved the phone screen in his face.
"What do you think of that?"
"Too close!"
Ranmaru's eyebrows furrowed as he looked at the screen.
"It's hard to read as far as I'm concerned..."
"Right, I agree."
I was glad that Ranmaru and I had the same opinion.
"Whaaat? And here I even made sure to choose emojis that are used in Ai-Ai's generation."
"That ain't the point. When ya write messages, just writin' one sentence 'bout what ya wanna say's enough."
It's true. On the rare occasions when I received messages from Ranmaru, they were similar to mine—simple.
"But I don't even get one-liners from you!"
Reiji sulked.
"Ah... I recently changed my phone, and when I was organizing my contacts, I accidentally deleted yours."
"Wha—?!"
"That's why I don't send you any."
"Hey—then why didn't you tell me?! Why did you not add me back?!"
If this continued, there would be no progress at all so I took the phone from Reiji and walked out of the dressing room.
So how should I send this? I thought to myself in the empty hallway.
"Dear Haruka Nanami, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inquire about your health."
No.
"Get over your cold already."
That wasn't quite right either.
"You doin’ good? Get well soon, 'kay?☆"
… Out of the question.
I found that writing too politely was a bit strange, while writing too briefly was lacking, and writing too familiar was unnatural.
"If that's the case..."
"Good work. This is Mikaze.
Sleep is essential for recovery from a cold.
If there’s anything you need, make sure to contact me right away.
That’s all.
I look forward to working with you in the future."
I looked at the completed message.
This one would work.
It was a simple message without any decorative symbols, but it conveyed what I wanted to say, so it was just right.
After quickly double-checking the message, I hit the send button.
Her reply came the next morning.
She said her cold was almost gone, but she would do as she was told and be careful not to overdo it.
… She also wrote that she was happy to receive the message.
"So it made her… happy."
I thought as I re-read her message multiple times.
What came back to me was just text on an inanimate screen, but beyond the text, I felt as if I could see her smiling face.
I had only sent a message and received a simple reply in return, yet there was this feeling of fullness spreading inside my chest.
It was more than a text.
Perhaps this was the feeling called "happiness".

*Translation Note: This is our take on the dancing bear, shooting star and heart symbol ┏ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ┛☆彡 ♡
That's the first time I'm confronted with an irregularity.
I just wanted to check on the status and progress of our unit song, so I emailed her an hour ago. Yet, there was no response.
I checked her schedule again. Since she didn't assist with the movie and didn't help me today, she should have been composing at home.
Maybe some sudden work came up and she had to leave. No... in that case she would have contacted me.
Now that I think about it, she emailed me yesterday saying: "They entrusted me with creating half of the background music for the movie."
We're talking about Haruka here.
It's possible that she started composing right away, got too absorbed, and forgot to check her mail.
"Please contact me."
I messaged her again and waited for a reply.
—7 PM
I tried calling her on her phone since she didn't reply.
But no matter how many times I tried, it always connected me to the answering machine.
Just to make sure, I checked with the agency but apparently she wasn't there today either.
Where could she be?
I checked my data and ran a rough simulation of "today" including the people she knew.
Friends or acquaintances inviting her out might have been a possibility.
I concluded…
"Possibility of her being alone at home: 98%"
It's safe to assume she is home.
Again, I decided to think about why she didn't answer. What if... she was kidnapped? Or maybe a burglar had broken in and now she was unable to move?
The possibility was low, but it wasn't zero. It would be really bad if that was true. I had to act immediately.
When I left the studio, I only took my coat and my phone with me.
—7:45 PM
I personally visited her dorm and checked if the lights were on.
She really seemed to be home.
I rang the bell and knocked—no answer.
So I walked around to observe the surroundings.
There weren't any particularly suspicious figures.
However, a dog in the neighborhood started barking. If this continued, I was afraid that I would be mistaken for a suspicious person instead.
Further observation was pointless. I should try to go right in.
—7:50 PM
I stood in front of the door, pressed the intercom button a second time, and tried to call out to her again.
"This is Mikaze. If you're there, I'd really like for you to open the door."
As expected, no response. In this case, it was time for drastic measures.
"... Guess I'll do it."
—7:52 PM
I started to unlock the door and succeeded after a minute and a half.
I thought it would be a difficult task, but the lock wasn't particularly complicated in its structure, so I was surprised that it opened in such a short time.
I’ll suggest replacing the locks with stronger ones. On all the doors in the building, of course.
I turned the doorknob.
"I'm entering."
I announced myself in a low voice and went inside.
There was a light at the end of the dark hallway. That must be the living room.
Just to be safe, I didn't turn on the light and carefully watched my surroundings as I walked through the hallway.
—7:55 PM
Haruka spotted.
She was lying face down in front of her computer while it was still on.
I ran to her to check if she was breathing.
"She's breathing… but..."
I put my hand on her forehead.
Her forehead was hot. Her pulse was rapid and her breathing ragged. There were light circles under her eyes.
A sudden thought flashed through my mind and I put my hand on her chin.
"Excuse me for a bit..."
I tilted her head and inserted a finger to open her mouth.
"Nh..."
She moved slightly as I held her lightly in my arm while I looked into her mouth.
I checked her throat for swelling.
"As I thought… must be a cold."
I removed my finger and lifted her up.
Knowing then that it was a cold, I had to make a new plan quickly.
—8 PM
I began Project Nursing.
The most important thing to do when one has a cold is rest.
It was necessary to let her rest on a bed.
As I held her in my arms, I looked for the bedroom.
"This is... the bathroom?"
The apartment wasn't even that big, but I just couldn't find the bedroom.
After wandering around the first floor, confused and with her still in my arms, I noticed a staircase.
This apartment had a second floor.
I finally arrived in the bedroom after walking up the stairs.
—8:10 PM
I laid her down on the bed and covered her with a blanket.
Since she was wearing loungewear, I assumed it wasn't necessary to change her clothes.
I measured the room temperature in case, but there shouldn't be a problem with it as it was.
—8:25 PM
I began to nurse her.
It might just have been a cold, but her condition could change.
While she slept, I sat next to her and watched the changes in her expression and body heat.
"Uh... gh..."
Perhaps because of the fever, she seemed to be in pain. While searching the first floor, I found a towel and used it to wipe the sweat from her forehead.
"... Senpai..."
I had the feeling that she was calling out my name, which surprised me, but it just seemed to be her fever induced sleep talking.
"I... finished the song."
It looked like she was composing even in her dreams. How industrious could she be?
"Listen… how about taking a little more care of yourself instead?"
I asked, but she was still in her dreams.
Sometimes she would moan a little, perhaps from the pain of the fever.
I put the towel aside and put my hand on her forehead instead.
Her suffering face seemed to soften a bit.
"Is this better?"
I stroked her forehead for a while and her breathing seemed to calm down.
"Mh..."
I didn't know the logic behind it, but if just a touch could help her calm down, then that was a good thing.
I observed her state while occasionally stroking her forehead.
—9 PM
She opened her eyes 30 minutes later.
She was very shocked when she woke up.
Well, the fact that I was in her room was quite an irregularity, so I couldn't blame her.
Slowly, she began to understand the situation, so I explained the details leading up to my arrival here.
I was relieved that it was just a cold and not a major incident.
But while she was telling me how sorry she was that I had to come, her voice was hoarse and her face was flushed. Must be the fever.
I had found a cooling sheet while I was nursing her, so I put it on her forehead and pushed her back to bed.
If I let her sleep now, she would be fine later.
That was the end of the nursing project.
I was about to leave the bedroom when suddenly…
*Grrrowl…*
A strange sound happened.
I turned around to see a face that was red… not just because of the fever.
Her stomach was growling.
I got it. I had overlooked an important factor.
Meals were also part of nursing.
I reopened the project and added dinner preparation to it.
When I explained that I was borrowing her kitchen, she became even more embarrassed and tried to get out of bed.
So I covered her with her blanket again and ordered her to go to sleep.
… Now, what should I make?
My first nursing project wasn't over yet.
I wasn’t sure why, but this situation made me feel what I would describe with the word “exciting”.
