I get the idea of drawing sanses with a lot of varying body types (especially in a human design lineup where they'd be even more different) but it's disappointing that them being fat is almost never the starting point
I feel like it's (in large part) the oc-ification of the characters that led people to disregard that canon sans is fat and start with a skinny baseline with their variants and only just barely deviate once in a while. and it got me thinking, would yall ever make skinny alphys aus? would it not raise an eyebrow if suddenly the majority of fanart for her was turning her skinny?😭
(then again we know what happened with old toriel fanart.. idk how many people are still on that today but the phenomenon def felt like "I find her attractive -> but I don't find fat people attractive -> I'll make her skinny to fix that instead of questioning my bias" but the fandom just wasn't in love with alphys enough to "fix" her. sans on the other han-)

I also think people forget that fat people actually, y'know, exist in real life.
As a fat person, it can feel really upsetting to see canonically fat characters turned skinny for literally no reason other than aesthetics. As if being fat isn't visually appealing or attractive or cute, or however you want to put it.
Maybe people need to ask themselves Why they want their version of a canon fat character to be skinny.
If you think a character looks Worse fat, maybe, and hear me out, don't draw that character.

yaoi fandom is just threatened by the idea of a woman existing in general so to mask that they go for the mother/sister/daughter angle when handling any woman in the vicinity of their yaoi guys instead of framing her as like some kind of evil yaoi homewrecker but it's equally misogynistic if not moreso imo

Still need to go see the translation to some of the songs and listen to others when i have motivation, but they're SUCH bangers, can't believe i almost went my whole life only knowing them as "the person part of the band that made Ruru-chan no Jisatsu Haishin".

EHHH THANK YOU !!! I think Shinsei Kamattechan is great for a lot of reasons, Noko is obvious really are passionate about music given the fact they’ve been doing it for 19 years(in skc) and more on their own, they’re 41 now AND their latest release was just last month, I don’t think the band is dying any time soon and the music quality has not lowered at all (< maybe some songs here and there are a bit weak but it doesn’t ruin the experience imo)
you mentioned ruruchan and like!!! Something neat about it is that its a GOOD song, and Child's medical record is a GOOD album that I recommend listening to fully, somebunny on wordpress said this but it really is a “mania high and depression low” album and really does put you in Noko/the characters’ place

Decided to post the questions along with this
● If you find Black characters harder to design, why do you feel this way?
● Do you think its important to learn to draw black characters?
● What are things you should avoid doing when designing Black characters?
● Do black character designs stop at human\humanoid designs?
● For Black users only, while everything is certainly the answer, is there anything specific you'd like to see more of in black character designs?

Hey so. You understand the things to avoid about drawing Black characters but are still afraid of drawing us?
Let me explain something, i understand where this comes from, somewhat, it is understandable to not want to accidentally do something harmful, but in my opinion, being afraid and avoidant of drawing Black people is more harmful than trying and messing up a bit the first time, its very VERY easy to not draw caricatures, i promise you, its incredibly easy to avoid, unless you are being careless, inconsiderate, or malicious, you will not draw an offensive caricature. You have to remember that we are people too, we have different features of course, but Black people, again, are people and if you draw people you can draw a Black person.
You won't be able to learn or improve if you lead with fear and not consideration, yes, it is important to consider certain aspects of drawing Black people (i.e, checking to make sure the skin isnt grey, making sure you consider how your portraying your Black characters, etc.) But being afraid of accidentally doing something racist will just hold you back, and in my opinion, can come off quite othering, you should be mindful and considerate, not fearful.
Its also important to pinpoint what exactly your afraid of. Afraid of accidentally doing something racist? Well have you done research on what to avoid? Have you asked for feedback or advice from Black artists and writers?
Is it backlash your afraid of? Are you assuming Black individuals will come after you if you make one little slip up? I personally think this mentality feeds into the Angry minority stereotype and how online we're frequently accused and framed as bullies, aggressors, harassers, etc. When i assure the vast majority of Black people do not condone those things nor do we lead with anger, in fact, most of us are very nice about criticisms or tips, so if its backlash your afraid of, you need to get rid of the mindset you will be attacked for every little thing you do, if you are genuinely trying, no one is going to go after you (even then, criticism is not going after anyone and if someone points out something and its not in a super sweet, soft way, thats still not automatically bad, Black people have a right to be wary of nonblack people handling topics of Blackness, Black people and Black culture, if someone says "Hey no, thats really fucked up actually", your response to that will tell us everything, all we really want is a "oh shit, my bad, I'll fix it, im so sorry for that, i appreciate the criticism" and thats it)
So use references, tips and tutorials, ask for advice, do research, engage with Black art and artists, leading with this fear is more harmful than good, you shouldn't be afraid to draw a human being, especially if you literally haven't even tried to do it yet.
