ok so i just kinda want to say a thing because it’s something that consistently bothers me and so i just want to earnestly ask people who use asian faceclaims to use them respectfully and i am asking this in regards to a few things.

so i’m asian. i’ve grown up with “positive stereotypes” about my people. i grew up on the assumption that we are naturally smart, naturally beautiful, naturally demure and naturally dainty. i grew up with people believing we all look the same when we can generally tell ourselves apart. and i know that it’s probably not deliberate, which is why i’m not aggressively ranting about it right now, but a lot of people who use asian faceclaims continue to perpetuate these stereotypes. i see my people used as faceclaims, as the base of OCs, and sometimes it’s respectfully done and sometimes it’s just really easy to tell when someone’s watched too many kdramas and just assume they’re representative of any of our societies and so turn us into tropes based on that…lol but anyway

Asian is a RACE, not an ethnicity and i worry it’s a lack of that understanding that leads people to just use asian faces so willy-nilly… please do not use korean idols as the face for your japanese muse. please do not use a chinese idol as the face of your korean muse, etc. this is a direct implication that we all look alike and you are treating ethnic groups with different cultures, histories, and traditions as interchangable assets for the sake of your fiction. if you actually apply the ethnicity to the muse that’s another thing but from what I’ve seen that’s pretty rare so lmao. naturally this applies to other races and ethnic groups as well but the asian aspect is my only lane.

if it’s for an OC, please be conscious of WHY you are using an asian faceclaim.  “Yellow Fever” is extremely, extremely real and finding someone attractive because of their ethnicity is not a preference – it’s fetishization; especially when you consider the number of “sexy asian women want to meet you!!!” ads on generic anime streaming website #13958 because that just goes to show you how much our women are hypersexualized.  i’m not saying that you’re not allowed to find us attractive…just be conscious of why, because it isn’t a compliment when your respect for us is creepily rooted in the fact that you think we’re pretty. and when you choose your asian faceclaims, be it for an OC or a canon character, be sure you’re doing it to REPRESENT US, not to oggle at us.

this is a blog that will not judge you based on your ability to be grammatically correct / fluent in the english language. meaning, if you’re having difficulty replying to a thread because of language barriers — i will be 100% empathetic. meaning, i won’t reblog posts critically bashing roleplayers based on their writing style, because i don’t know the struggles that each person goes through in regards to writing. meaning, i won’t nitpick little grammatical errors in your reply.

please don’t ever feel inferior because english is your second language or you have a disability that keeps you from formulating “the perfect sentence.” the fact that you’re trying is enough, and you don’t have to prove anything to anyone.
