haven’t uploaded anything in 2million years now i wake to gift the world a red head and now i return to the cold cold grave
My piece for the @couldbealesbiankhfanzine! This is my first-ever full-page comic and it was a blast to work on. I’m so happy to have been a part of this project with such an immensely talented group of artists <3
As far as I’m concerned, the single most radical change from journal fandom is the idea that fandom is primarily a space for kids.
*shakes cane* in MY day, teen fans pretended to be adults while we walked uphill both ways!
#tumblr: i GUESS we’ll tolerate these gross old women LIKE OVER 25 UGH as long as they understand that fandom isn’t /for/ them
#lj: HOW DO YOU DO FELLOW ADULTS
@thebibliosphere
This is entirely too accurate.
My old fandom clique actually had a group-shattering schism over the fact that one of our members eventually revealed that she was about four years younger than she’d said she was. And like … she wasn’t even pretending to be an adult, she was just pretending to be an older teenager than she was so our fanfic writing group composed largely of sixteen to twenty-three year-olds would take her seriously.
It’s a very odd flip to see kids telling twenty year-olds to fuck off out of fandom now.
Once, when I complained about this very issue, I had someone ask me, “Why are you so surprised to find the internet generation on the internet? We grew up here!”
The answer which I wish I had given, although it sadly came to me too late, was this: “I’m not surprised to find you on the internet. I’m surprised to find that you seem to think you’re the only ones on the internet. I was here before you were born.” (I don’t mean to say that all members of the internet generation act like they’re the only ones here, because I know that’s not true - but I’ve seen it happen a lot.)
Fandom is not the province of the young, nor of the old. Fandom - in its purest ideal form - has no limits, age or otherwise.
^^^ When us adults say “we built fandom,” we aren’t saying that we own it because of that. What we’re saying is that kids and teenagers don’t own it either. Nobody has fandom gatekeeping authority purely by virtue of being older or younger.
Also, unless a social media platform or community was explicitly and intentionally created for minors - like, it’s actually spelled out in the website’s purpose statement or TOS or similar, not just some subcultural expectation or perception that evolved over time - adults have every right to be in it, and aren’t being creepy just by virtue of their presence. (Certainly adults can act creepy while they’re there, but “doing anything fun while being over the age of 18” is not actually a reasonable definition of “acting creepy.”)
Also the idea that no one older than like 25 grew up with the internet is uuuuuh wrong?
Like yeah we grew up with it in a different way, and not all of us had it but many of us did. I’m in my 30s tho and I had my first AOL Kids account when i was 11.
The only difference is that we all saw the internet as a place largely intended for adults unless it specifically said “kids” or something in the name, and y'all seem to see it as largely a place for kids when… No. It’s really not and it’s very unsafe for you to think it is.
I love how happy the puppy is as the kitten comes to visit

This would be so much easier if you’d stop trying to kiss me and just let me HOP DOWN, Fred.
This is so cute

hi i'll never get over the few golden times pokemon games have used in-game mechanics as incredibly subtle yet effective storytelling techniques. like the fact that in gsc/hgss silver uses a zubat/golbat for a majority of the game until the end when it's evolved into a crobat which is only possible through max friendship meaning he finally learned to love his pokemon. or the fact that team bosses like maxie, archie, and cyrus all have a crobat, showing that despite their evil they very much do bond with their pokemon (this being especially telling for cyrus). and yet despite so many team bosses being so horrid to the world, they at least are loving toward their pokemon, which makes ghetsis all the more revolting and terrifying when you realize that his hydreigon (which is underleveled, implying a forced early evolution) knows the move frustration, a move which gains power the more the pokemon hates the trainer, and it has maximum power
shit like that just makes me go fuckin wild
