Here's the thing

There is something inherently misogynistic about grown men hating boy bands, especially when their only reason for doing so is because their fans are predominantly young women.

Like they don't actually hate the boy band, they hate the fans... which are girls... which means they don't value or honor female opinions and interests.

That just doesn't sit right with me.

Like you can dislike boy bands but come up with a better reason that "their fans are just a bunch of teenage girls."

Not to mention the actual diversity within some fandoms. Not everyone is a teenager and not everyone is female. The argument is invalid.

I’ve also thought that men who hate what’s popular with young women (Twilight, One Direction, K-pop) feel, on some level, threatened by it.

It’s often because these books or films or bands present men who aren’t hyper-masculine, who act more sweet and emotional than culture allows, who put a lot of effort into grooming and personal style.

Boy bands are called “gay” because they just aren’t leaning into masculinity like rock, country, or hip hop artists do.

People need to calm down and let young women like what they like, and maybe they should take a few notes while they’re at it.
