though every rat is special, it's a wonderful and unusual thing for their accomplishments to be remembered and cherished by so many people so many years later. we're all so fortunate to know about the rat who banged out the tunes!

my friend consistently wishes me a "happy jewish easter" (referring to passover, though she typically sends it around purim time).

i, jokingly, wished her a happy christian passover this easter, mistakenly thinking that her holiday wishes were also a lighthearted joke. i have since been sentenced to six paragraph texts and groupchat mediation jail as if we were middle schoolers

as stupid as this whole thing is, its just frustrating that it's ok for my religion to be boiled down to "the default religion without jesus" by both my christian and atheist friends. i thought i got all the posts about cultural christianity out of my system with christmas, but i suppose there's no rest for the wicked

first, i want to thank everyone for the support i've been getting!

second, just adding some context, this actually isnt the usual american christian-centrism that i usually talk about! this person is ukranian and grew up eastern orthodox christian, so its european christian-centrism instead.

i've had a couple of similar instances with her, but i didn't realise how much ive been tolerating until i posted this and read all the comments and reblogs. the worst of which being the time i told her that my grandparents were originally from the same region of ukraine as her, but that they fled because of the pogroms. and she denied the ukranian involvement in pogroms. which don't get me wrong, the russians were definitely the big perpetrators of the pogroms, but there were also many, many, many ukranians who also participated in pogroms (like the one my grandparents fled, which was started by local ukrainian villagers. lowkey her grandparents probably participated too against my grandparents. but whatever).

long-winded point being, i talk about american cultural christianity a lot, but i tend to not talk about european christian-centrism as often (even though in my experience it's usually worse) because there are less non-christian minorities in europe than there are in america.

also, thank you tumblr for forcing me to reconsider what type of people i keep as friends. i'm gonna call her soon and try to communicate my frustrations (which i think is much more age-appropriate than a confrontation group chat), and if that doesn't work, i may have to reconsider out friendship

There is a reason why there are fewer Jews in Europe than there are in America, and it is tied to why European Christian-centrism is worse. And no, I am definitely not talking (only) about the Shoah here. I am talking about so much more than the fucking Shoah. The Shoah is the tip of the goddamn iceberg, the logical conclusion of European culture, but no one likes talking about that.
