It’s taking a lot of personal restraint to not make a long meta post about why it would be worse for Garak to fuck Richard Bashir than it would be for Julian to fuck Tain

Okay so several people asked me to do this. I cannot fathom why but here goes:

The reason for this essentially boils down to why Tain and Richard are shitty in their respective ways.

Tain is Garak without his good traits. Manipulative, cunning, willing to go to great lengths for his beliefs even if the costs are high. He is essentially an older, eviler, more powerful Garak. There’s ways in which he’s pitiful, especially as he’s dying but he’s not pathetic. Garak has a lot of shamed connected to this part of himself.

On the other hand Richard is unlike Julian in many ways. He’s confident, but there’s nothing to back it up. He’s false bravado, toxic optimism with none of the skill or expertise of his son. He seems mostly unable to learn from his mistakes or to understand the consequences of his actions. He is pathetic because his conception of himself is inherently larger than his actual ability to contribute. He is a clown who does not know he’s a clown. This is inherently embarrassing.

So if Julian fucked Tain, like it’s awkward right but on a certain level it would almost be Julian embracing the worst parts of Garak. Also I don’t think it would be that fun. Julian would most definitely have to do all of the work which he usually doesn’t mind but for Tain? Rough. Not to mention this would definitely be a power play by Tain, which is a situation that while inherently fucked up, almost sort of makes sense. To add to this, there’s almost no point in canon where Julian could do this while knowing Tain was Garak’s father.

On the other hand if Garak fucked Richard, it’s just one more thing about him which is now embarrassing to Julian. To add to this, Garak would most definitely have to instigate it. Now for a moment imagine Richard’s whole positivity + obliviousness during sex. He would do a bad job and think he was doing great.

So to compare: Julian fucking Tain is screwed up but one can imagine the senario that leads to it, and frankly it’s not the worst thing Tain has probably done to Garak. On the other hand, Garak would definitely have to seduce Richard and this embarrassment would haunt Julian for decades.

technically true. bit of an understatement. otherwise, ? im imagining like the last 15 seconds of tain’s life . “ask me… as your son”. julian hears that  and just sweeps garak aside and  starts stripping tain’s clothes off, praying he can climax before he has to call time of death. not great cemetrygatess. not great.

I more meant (and I’ll admit I could have been more articulate in what is clearly a Very Important work of meta) that it’s not out of the question that Julian already knew that Tain was Garak’s father when Tain died in 371. I think that the most logical interpretation of canon would indicate that he didn’t know until Tain was dying, and that is certainly my interpretation, but a lot of Garak and Bashir stuff seems to happen off screen so I do think you could make the argument Julian already knew.

Still the visual you’ve presented is compelling in it’s horror, so thank you.

They told him more about what was going on in front of him than any other bounty hunter really cared about. Growing up on Kamino, he had probably too much of a fascination with physiology, subconscious body responses, body language, the like.

He’d just reinstalled the program into his helmet after getting his armor back. Din, the other Mandalorian, had walked in and told him they were flying from Morak, but there was a strange lilt to his body, like he was nervous. Boba tilted his head to the side, activating the body trace completely on accident. Apparently, things were still on the fritz, though, because they managed to not only run the trace, but fully autosplice the life support in Din’s armor, giving him a sudden readout on his visor of all of Din’s vital signs, down to a little rabbity pulse monitor.
