i made this ages ago but i didnt post it because of spoilers i think so like. if u just happen to be on here for som reason. here u go. have a dumb video
so i probably won't be able to make an endgame thread in time because i suck but. i felt like it would it be fun to write about what ryota ends up doing after being cloned!! here's a post full of. little headcanon stuff or w/e i suppose.
(i swear i will get to the observation asks. .. . someday.. ... cries....)
(okay i just added this bracket in after finishing the post and i realised i ended up rambling a lot about ryota holy fuck sorry)
so. does ryota go find his family? does he join the resistance? does he kill nara for being a selfie king sham? well my answer to that is:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
you probably saw that coming but i had to do it anyway
so, wow. how do i even do this. well, if you didn't read the deadblog or dead!ryota's posts (which i wouldn't blame you for because they're awfully full of internal monologue) then i'll just start off from ryota's mental state before he was revived!
when ryota first died, he didn't think his death was that bad. he figured he could go on with his 'observing' - he could still have fun, since there were plenty of people around to study. it wouldn't be any different from being alive. perhaps he couldn't talk to them and try and invoke emotions himself, but at least he had the """power of invisibility""" to an extent! (you can totally compare being dead to being invisible, right?)
plus, a situation of 'mutual killing' would only make things even more interesting - surely it would have brought out different reactions and emotions from people. he thought there was no way that he would ever get bored if he was in such a new and fresh situation - but he did. mutual killing itself ended up being the cause of his boredom. although the situation was abnormal and peculiar, as it progressed, it became more and more repetitive to him.
it's important to understand that ryota is very shallow at heart. he likes to think that he's looking at the "deeper meaning" - that he's trying to examine human nature in a more in depth manner - but he's incapable of doing that. it's merely outside of his comprehension. he effectively examines life as a movie - where characters are often stereotypes, motivated by simple, so called "common" objectives.
to ryota, all mutual killing proved to him was that people were easy to predict. as if people were "just like they were in the movies." they killed for predictable motives. they reacted to things with tears, anger, anguish, indifference -- the list goes on and on.
and that's understandable. that's how different people react, especially when under the extreme pressure that the mutual killing situation exerts. there's so much in their minds that everything piles up and wrecks them from the inside, or they can be more steelwilled, or they can hide what they feel. but ryota only scraped the surface - he took reactions and emotions at face value. and that's what made him reach the conclusion that people were boring.
they were just like soap drama characters; stereotypical, flat, predictable.humanity was not as complex as he initially thought it would be, and that is what disappointed him.
the truth he doesn't realise is that he's just incapable of understanding human nature. he doesn't get it, so he's quick to accept his own interpretation, despite how shallow it is. he doesn't realise that - ryota is, to an extent, overly confident in his logic.
at the core, though, he does retain a slight bit of humanity. a slight bit of humanity that he doesn't realise is there and doesn't understand himself. this kind of manifested in the deadblog, where he wouldn't quite get himself sometimes. this was present before he died, too, but he kind of became especially sensitive to it after he died. why did he switch between bored and apathetic? did death have an effect on the way he thought and felt? he didn't know, and that 'frustrated' him.
so that probably like. didn't really make quite sense. and i probably repeated myself a lot. but before i ramble more, this is what ryota's interested in after he's "brought back to life":
understanding himself. no longer understanding other people as much, but himself.
after being revived, he still retains the viewpoint that other people are boring. this doesn't change at all. he doesn't have much of an interest in "understanding" other people anymore because he doesn't think there's much more to comprehend. and from his frustration and ponderings in the deadblog, he obtains a new interest: how his own mind works.
he knows he's human - why, then, is he so different? what makes him different? is he actually all that different from others? does his brain function strangely? he's been this way as long as he's known, so why?
in addition, he's now a clone. his own brain and personality is simply based on data collected from him before he died. so is he really alive now? or is he just a 'robot', acting based off predictions drawn from data?
but wasn't that what he was all along, too?
what's the difference between data and life to him? he doesn't know. but he wants to. ryota's life has always been fueled by the pursuit of knowledge which (usually) satisfies his boredom.
his first step to getting to know himself would probably be trying to get his own data from the collective, and analyzing it himself. he couldn't care less about finding his family, or about whether half of japan dies. he's awfully self-centered, and that's the way it's always been. he's always been on his own side and no one else's. it's about whatever benefits him. hell, he might end up joining the collective or doctrina artifice just to get what he wants. and then switch around and probably fucking die somewhere in the midst of the mess he creates.
but in the short term, it's likely that he might just vanish and appear at random times around the place. i doubt that ryota will stick to one group of students, that's way too much commitment. he is a free spirit who does whatever the fuck he wants after all.
yeah okay i need to go for class i don't have the time to tidy up this post so it's probably as messy as fuck
so i didn't get many posts into the deadblog, but the're all mostly ryota being a weirdo. and i can't quite explain all his actions in the actual posts themselves because my wiritng is kind of... intentionally vague (?) to an extent when it comes to ryota. so that's kind of just a. heads up. if you're confused as to why he did some of the shit he did, then feel free to ask me on skype or shoot me an ask!
((this has been sitting in my drafts for over a month now haha oops)) finally got some extra space to on my sd card, so I opened colors 3d for the first time in forever and made this shittee ryotr doodle (on the 3ds gallery you can see his hand stick out in 3d whoOOAaao future)
(i'm late for Everything so here is the character questionnaire... thing)

He’s much more on the supple, agile side than actually being built.
Scars/Beauty Marks — None.
Height — 5'5" / 166cm
Weight — 139 lbs / 63kg
SECTION II : PERSONALITY
Weaknesses — His lack of emotions and understanding of other people. I think I talk way too much about Ryota in general so that's relatively self-explanatory as a weakness...? I mean he's obviously weird or at least eccentric after a while.
Bad Habits — At first, he usually fits everyone to a 'stereotype'; everyone is essentially a TV drama character to him. While he does like to try and find out more about the depth of a person's character, if they put on a shallow front, he'll most likely assume that that's all they are (and will be fairly disappointed.)
Proud of — lmao how would he be proud of anything
Embarrassed by — On the surface, his SHSL title.
MBTI Type — i just did this and he's ENTJ apparently?? ok

Secrets —
- he was communicating with naori through his camera, as two of the same things existed at once! whilst he could see everything that she took clearly, the photos HE took were awfully distorted for her, making it hard for her to figure out what he was trying to say.
- since the first trial, he had been making audio recordings of the trials he attended! in the case that he didn't, he would listen to the recordings naori took. (who discovered his recording of the first one when she got his camera whoops)
Regrets — So many questions relatING TO SENTIMENTS THAT I CAN'T REALLY ANSWER.... well I guess he is disappointed about the outcome of dying and kind of regrets it...? In his own strange way. It took him a while to realise it, but that's kind of a thing.
Pet Peeves —
As part of his front:
Anime and anything remotely related to it.
People who dislike idols.
Calling him a 'videographer'.
Questioning his legitimacy as an 'artist'.
Ignoring him.
Sexuality — Technically aromantic asexual - but he doesn't identify as such. He doesn't know anything about sexuality and hasn't really paused to think about it. He makes a lot of heteronormative comments as a result of his obliviousness, and can be totally fucking awful unless corrected multiple times.
Day or Night Person — BOTH all day erryday
Introvert or Extrovert — Extrovert
Optimist or Pessimist — Optimist
SECTION III : LIKES
Music — He follows what people seem to like and picks music easy to obsess over. It's easy for him to say that tunes are catchy - which is why he's predominantly into idol music, as well as especially popular English pop. I'm also obligated to say popular K-pop. He doesn't listen to any ballads and 'prefers' vibrant music.
Books — He'll only read in his spare time at home, and prefers character-driven stories. He prefers to watch live-action movies and shows, though he picks up the occasional manga. Without telling anyone.
Foods — He decided that he likes sour food on a whim. It's a distinct 'preference' that distinguishes him. He also likes western food a whole lot, especially hamburgers and french fries. Fast food, really. Though he 'likes' potatoes in all forms.
Animals — He doesn't have any pets. Doesn't intend to get any for now, but if he ever does, it'll probably be a dog.
Sports — BESBAW. Squash, because it's fast-paced. He enjoys playing most team sports - basketball, soccer, etc - but dislikes swimming.
Favorite Saying — He only ever remembers quotes from movies, so: "The world's a playground! You know that when you are a kid, but somewhere along the way everyone forgets it." it's from yes man. you know that movie starring jim carrey. yeah.
Color — His favourite colour is green, and generally earthy colours! Though he's also fond of blue.
Clothing — Anything warm, so he tends to wear long pants and a jacket all the time. Basically, he likes winter clothes - and fluffiness is always a plus. He's also partial to collared shirts for no good reason - t-shirts and v-necks are a no no in his closet.
Jewelry — Nah.
Games — Arcade games. Co-op games. Basically games he can play with other people.
TV Shows — He watches like everything under the sun. That 9pm romcom? He's got it. What about that other 9pm romcom that airs at the same time? He's got it on record. The only thing he doesn't watch is anime.
Movies — ^
SECTION IV : RELATIONSHIPS
Family —
Yasutaka Hatagami (father); accountant. Took custody of Kumiko.
Ageha Kurosawa (mother); doctor. Took custody of Ryota and his brother.
Kumiko Hatagami (older sister); if Ryota's 17, she's studying in university. Doesn't bother keeping in touch with the other side of the family.
Toshiyuki Hatagami (younger brother); Ryota's mother puts a lot of pressure on him to do well in school. He attends boarding school.
Best Friend — im going to respond to this ""Technically"" so. lmao
Other Friends — lmao (he basically talks to everyone. even those who don't respond :^( )
Enemies — lmao
Love Life — LMAO.......
SECTION V : EXTRAS
Career — He was going to go to film school in the States after high school. However, he'd actually probably drop the whole film thing after a while and go on to be more of a free spirit who often changes job and lifestyle.
Hobbies — Watching movies and TV shows, obviously. Photography. Hiking, rock climbing, general outdoor activities. And of course, filming his own projects. Also just being an obnoxious prick.
Guilty Pleasure — He gets a strange form of pleasure when he reacts by instinct - as in, almost instantly - to something. Basically, when his body decides to react to something without him having to put thought into it first. He also actually kind of enjoys physical pain, because well, he thinks that he can feel it. Whoo.
Intelligence Level — He's actually smart when it comes to problem-solving (when said problems aren't actually too related to people.) Mostly because his thinking is never affected by emotions - he technically never gets flustered or taken over by his feelings. In a sense, he's very, very 'book smart' - because he interprets every thing and person as like an open textbook. He memorizes whatever is obvious and upfront to him - people's names, things they've said in the past, so on and so forth. But his understanding of many things is very shallow. It's like only memorizing word-for-word and not comprehending said material.
He pretends to stupid and irrelevant - which is why his words often go round and round in circles. Though he also uses that method to try and cover up mistakes he's made in his words.
Spoken Languages — Japanese, English to a small extent - he can kind of read English, but his spoken English is subpar or slightly better as compared to other Japanese students. He does quite okay in English as a subject - despite constantly spewing out shitty English memes such as "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!!!" during regular conversation. Reason being that he doesn't have to study for an English test.
it is july 4th for both of us now, so [KICKFLIPS] HAPPY BIRTHDAY NED!!!!!!!!! congratulations! you are now officially Old in my books. you totally expected this but here is the owie bae-kahat for u. (thank you to char for the lovely art!!)
