She clenched her fist, gritting her teeth once she was done yelling. She felt so stupid for having trusted this guy before now, the other two had admitted once they were caught, he just kept acting innocent, it was disgusting of him.

She didn’t end up attacking him, partly cause she was already hurt, she didn’t need any more of his accidents.

Looks like that didin’t work. He wasn’t going to disagree with her anyway since she was right. No matter what he would say or do it wouldn’t change anything.

Her tears only grew, Tanja needing to wipe them away regularly as she sobbed.

Tanja paused for a second, not actually entirely sure how to respond to Seth, he seemed so passive about it all, nothing like in the trial.

She curled in on herself, starting to outright sob.

Violently? Oh yes, right…he almost forgot about that or rather..he tried not to remember it anymore. But well, it was kind of hard. Her screams were still there especially, when he’s sleeping.

“….It was an accident…I didn’t meant to do that. But…feel free to hurt me. Aiko already did that..so you can do that too. “

He offered in hope to cheer her up with that. Of course, he knew that it wouldn’t work but it was better than nothing.

Was that the right response? He had no idea. at least he managed to pay attention to her now…sort of. His behavior still seemed to be kind of twitchy and anxious. He just wanted to leave and hide somewhere.

Another day had passed and still no sign of Rex’s ghost. Perhaps his soul wasn’t resting easy? Maybe he needed a memorial? Aiko had the crazy idea to travel into the Forbidden Forest to create a grave for Rex. Should she be killed along the way by a dangerous creature then that was her fate, but it was something she was willing to risk.

She remembered seeing flowers in the inner courtyard. So there she ventured after getting sheers from one of the herbology classrooms. She walked over to a particularly pretty looking bunch of flowers and began to start clipping her favorite blooms.

Out of the corner of her eye she noticed another classmate in the distance. But she didn’t really acknowledge them as she focused on picking the best flowers for her bouquet. She had a mission and no one could stop her.

Tanja hadn’t seen Akemi’s ghost either despite spending the time that she wasn’t already spending crying and yelling at those responsible for yesterday trying to find her. Even if it wasn’t all of Akemi it was something, that’s really all she wanted, something, anything really, for now her smile and her laugh should be enough.

After a while she ended up just sitting down in the grass, having grown incredibly tired. She was more than used to being up and about all day but really even for her this was growing a little ridiculous. With a sigh she started playing with the grass around her, trying to hold back her sobs.

Suddenly though someone else was there, she was the girl from the trial right? Aiko? Seeing her only made Tanja feel so much worse, she understood how she must feel.

“Aiko...is it...?”

Was her hair shorter? Did she cut it? That didn’t matter now. Was she talking to him? What did she say? He wasn’t listening! Seth began to shift around nervously almost thinking that he was sweating now. He didn’t even look at her. He was just being way too anxious to focus.

“…Yes, no….I don’t know….I just…”

Yes, he definitely wasn’t listening to her and he was simply speaking nonsense right now. In fact he even attempted to walk past her.

Tanja just stared at him for a moment before turning away as well, not really wanting to even look at him. Really she didn’t want to talk to him but...she certainly did have a lot to say.

“I hope you’re happy...you’ve managed to ruin everyting.”

Well, she had a lot to eventually say at the very least.

This was awful…everything was just awful. Someone he barely knew got executed and now everyone probably hated him. Yes, he was in a bad mood…in a very bad mood. He wasn’t even thinking straight right now. Once in a while he even began to talking to himself in a very quiet manner though.

Not only that but he seemed to be twitching too? Okay, he wasn’t twitching that bad but his behavior was surely not normal. Always, looking around, shaking lightly as he kept on walking. He didn’t even know where to go he just had to go somewhere!

None of that mattered though. Especially not when he ran into her. At that point he could just feel himself dying on the inside. Seth didn’t even look at her. He just didn’t do anything asides from well standing there, occasionally looking somewhere else.

Tanja stopped when she saw Seth standing there, just standing there for a moment, the tears starting to grow in her eyes. There he was, the guy who had killed her, or at least the most likely suspect, standing there perfectly safe. Not only had he probably been the one to actually kill Akemi so violently but he was just fine, and there was really nothing she could do about it.

“What do you want.”

She crossed her arms, or rather tucked her good arm into the sleeve so that it appeared as if she was crossing her arms, and glared at him.

Bless tiny kittens, they are a gift. A fluffy furry gift of love and joy. Keri purrs more at the added attention, the small furball practically exuding an ‘ah yes worship me’ vibe. Cats are cats, apparently, no matter how small.

Wow, that went even better than he’d hoped. Tanja seems even more excited than he does! And he is pretty excited. He doesn’t expect to pick up the language in a matter of days, but it’ll be fun to learn even a little of it, and it’s nice to spend time with Tanja on something that makes her happy and distracts from all the terrible things that keep happening in this place.

“[Ah, right, okay! Merhaba… günaydın… iyi günler… iyi akşamlar… ne var ne yok… is that alright?]” The words don’t mean much to him yet, they’re just sounds that he’s repeating, but with time he’ll get the associations down. His pronunciation is actually spot on though, it seems like he’s able to simply mimic the way Tanja says things near perfectly. Hideo has a good ear, and more than decent control of his voice. Probably something to do with being an actor. Or just having a gift for languages. Possibly both. Most likely both.

Tanja kept petting the tiny kitty as she explained everything, growing even more excited at how quickly he was picking up at least the pronunciations of it. So long as he also had as much talent with grammar and remembering the words this should actually be pretty easy.

“[Yeah! Yeah! Perfect!]”

She really only seemed to grow more excited as she continued to explain the bassicas to him.

Well she has gotten hurt, though that’s not really related to her impaired vision, more like impaired judgment. In any case, Hideo just smiles back at her and leads the way out of the bathroom, moving to sit on his bed back in the dorm room proper. Keri, the tiny black kitten who doesn’t seem to have grown- at least not noticeably- since he first got her on the train uncurls from her spot on his pillow and moves to plant herself on his lap.

Hideo scratches her ears gently, eliciting a surprisingly loud rumble of purring from the little animal, and glances over at Tanja again. Thankfully it only takes a few seconds of casting about before he hits on a fresh subject that will, hopefully, not have any negative associations to bring the mood down.

“[Oh, Tanja- um, if you don’t mind, I was wondering… would you be willing to teach me some Turkish, maybe…? I-I really like learning new languages, but I mean, if it’s too much trouble I understand!]”

That kitten really was just so adorable, Tanja actually giggling a little as she moved to pet her softly. Francis was adorable too but really there was just something about tiny kittens that just automatically made her so happy, especially when those tiny kittens were also happy. Plus the irony in Hideo of all people getting this impossibly tiny kitten was all the more entertaining.

Her expression only seemed to brighten more at his request, seeming rather excited about the prospect of teaching him, and maybe if he managed to pick it up quickly she could even have simple conversations with him in it. It would be just like home, well, almost just like home.

“[Yeah! Yeah! I’d be more than happy to!]”

She quickly shifted so that she was more comfortable before jumping right in excitedly.

“[Alright, so basics, best place to start is hello, there’s merhaba, just hello, günaydın, good morning, iyi günler and iyi akşamlar are good day and good evening, and then ne var ne yok is more informal.]”

Well as far as Hideo knows, Tanja normally wears contacts. That’s probably what most people would assume, after all. No one’s going to jump to the conclusion that someone just straight up doesn’t use any corrective eyewear if they have trouble seeing. If he did know though, he’d probably be glad that he’d convinced her otherwise.

“[I-it’s fine, I mean, you don’t have to thank me, really.]” Hideo assures her gently, he looks down at the scissors on the counter. Now that he thinks about it, where did those even come from…? One of the classrooms maybe? Or… the only other place he can think of is the Room of Requirement. Maybe he shouldn’t ask about that, though. Even if he doesn’t believe that their items were really destroyed in the real world, it’s still not really a pleasant subject.

Now that Tanja’s in a good mood, he really doesn’t want to spoil it. It seems like he somehow manages to do that a lot, it’s not a problem he’s usually had so… maybe it’s just the situation they’re in, not totally him, but he still feels bad. “[Um, do you want to go sit in the room and talk for a while?]” Just standing around in the bathroom is kind of awkward.

Unfortunately for Tanja she’s absolutely terrified of contacts, meaning that really her options were glasses or extremely impaired sight, it’s actually a bit of a miracle that she’s managed to get this far without anyone really noticing or her getting hurt.

“[Oh, yeah, of course.]”

She nodded, feeling a little embarrassed that she hadn’t thought of that before, standing and talking in the bathroom definitely wasn’t the ideal. Really Hideo was managing really nicely with keeping her happy, it definitely wasn’t a good idea to ask about exactly how she had ended up cutting her hair.

There we go, smiling again! Hideo is indescribably relieved, it’s… it’s good to know he can still help, even in just little ways, and it’s good to see Tanja smiling. It’s good to know she can still smile.

“[You’re welcome! It really is very cute. If you want to keep it that way, then you definitely should.]” Hideo replies encouragingly. Although really, it’s not like her real hair was cut. This is still just a video game, so any changes made to their appearance in it probably won’t apply when they wake up. It’d be pretty weird otherwise. But if Tanja decides she likes it enough, maybe she’ll get it cut that way in the real world too. Who knows?

Really just that she actually was willing to keep it like that in here was a rather big deal for her, especially considering she was also referring to her glasses. Apparently being able to see is not a thing that you just automatically decide to go with, or at least for her.

“[It’s actually kinda cute, yeah...thanks again, really just thanks so much.]”

Really how long this confidence would last was still very much in question though, for now she need fine but really considering everything...

Hideo finishes up after several minutes of concentration, determined to do as good a job as possible. When he finally sets the scissors down again, Tanja’s hair is in a cute little bob that actually looks intentional as opposed to a rash impulsive action.

“[Yeah, of course I think so. You don’t look silly at all,]” Hideo tells her firmly, lightly fluffing her hair out to get rid of some of the bits of cut hair and brushing off her shoulders. Too bad he doesn’t have a lint roller or something.

“[Here, look for yourself,]” He points at Tanja’s reflection in the mirror. Apart from the black eye- how funny, they almost match- she does actually look lovely. “[You’re adorable! I think it suits you, the glasses too, they really frame your face nicely. And, well, your face was already really pretty.]” There’s no trace of flirtation or flattery, no ulterior motive, Hideo is entirely earnest in the compliment and it shows.

Tanja seemed to be on the verge of crying again at his complements, smiling softly, it actually being the first time she had since the body discovery. Maybe this wasn’t so bad, there was a reason she’d been so drawn to this type of frame when she was younger.

“[Yeah...maybe this is actually alright...thanks...]”

She turned back to Hideo, her smile broadening as she looked up at him. He really was such an amazing friend, he almost seemed too perfect, too nice, but of course she would never question it aloud, it was all a good thing, right?

“[Maybe...maybe I should keep it all like this...]”

For a little while, he just keeps hugging her, she seems to need it. Patting her back gently, Hideo only pulls back enough to look at her when she speaks. Taking a cue from her, he switches to German as well. If this makes her more comfortable than he doesn’t mind, at least it’s a good way to stay in practice. It’s easy to get rusty at languages if you don’t keep speaking them, after all.

“[It’s alright, hey, here look.]” He tilts his head towards the mirror and gently turns her so she can face it, “[It’s not so bad. Let me help…]” Carefully, he reaches to pick up the scissors again, and begins methodically evening out the rough ends of Tanja’s chopped locks. He actually seems pretty good at it, wow, Hideo certainly has an eclectic skillset. In fact this is not his first time cutting hair, when his siblings were younger he’d ended up doing it for them a few times- and cleaning it up on one memorable occasion when Rei and Tomie got their hands on a pair of scissors and decided to give each other haircuts. Compared to that, Tanja hasn’t done too badly at all.

“[There, see? Really cute! A-and even if you don’t like it, it’ll grow back eventually, so don’t worry too much. Your glasses are nice too, by the way.]”

She stands still and lets him trim it, still a little confused as to exactly why he was being so nice. Really she seemed to forget just how nice Hideo was disturbingly often. When he mentioned her glasses though she looked away, hesitantly adjusting them, actually seeming a little overwhelmed by all of this.

“[You...really think so...? You don’t...think I look silly...?]”

She curled in a little on herself as she spoke, it becoming increasingly obvious just how much she needed everything Hideo was doing. Only one other person had ever said anything nice about her glasses, not too many people had ever actually seen them but still, the effect of Hideo complementing them was the same.

If Hideo could be in two places at once, he absolutely would. He really wishes he could, actually, that would definitely come in handy. Unfortunately, such is not the case, so while he has multiple people he wants to talk to and try to help, he’s forced to go one at a time. Aiko happened to be the first he approached after the trial, but after spending some time with her he went looking for others… starting with Tanja.

It seems like nearly every time he’s found her, it’s been in the Hufflepuff dorm room, and evidently this time is no different. Hideo steps in and doesn’t immediately see her- but some sound from the bathroom, perhaps the snip of scissors or a soft sniffle, draws his attention, and Hideo moves to the doorway and…

“Oh, Tanja…” Immediately he moves forward, gently taking the scissors from her hand and setting them aside for a moment, proceeding to pull the girl into a hug. “…Y-you know, short hair looks pretty cute on you.”

Tanja looked up as she heard the voice, relaxing a little as he took the scissors and hugged her. Hideo was nice, he cared, he could definitely help her, he always did. Plus he seemed to be the one other person here who knew German, easily making him the one living person who she’s was completely comfortable around.

“[I messed up...I just...I was just so upset...]”

Really speaking a language she had to be fluent in to start formal schooling and make friends there was definitely far more comfortable than the one she had to learn a couple years ago so she could move to a completely different school. It helped calm her a little, not anywhere near entirely but at the very least a little.

Hideo had said she looked cute though...but did she really? She’s always been told...but then again this was Hideo.
