Title: The Rest is Noise | Orpheus | Chapter 2 | ATTN: TonTon
Waking up groggily, Orpheus had to take a moment to actually orientate himself. All he could remember were the rules that were explained by the masked strangers, before they got knocked out… and apparently, not for the first time if the casuality announcement meant anything.
He got told that they’d held a trial already. That one of them actually ended up killing someone else - and in order to see what exactly happened, the movie theatre had been opened up to them. With furrowed eyebrows, Orpheus dusted himself off, before silently making his way to the newly opened area. The fantasy novelist had to watch this for himself - it would feel unwise to ignore such an opportunity.
…
Well, that sure was… something.
Orpheus couldn’t help but mull over his racing thoughts as he exited the movie theatre. It was a bit worrisome how only a handful of them actually bothered to do anything regarding the murder case. Surely, they can’t go on like this, can they?
Though soon enough, his thoughts wander to those who had recently passed away. He hadn’t seen Sachiko anywhere, but surely, he had documented what had happened to her - unless he wasn’t even given the time to do so. The only way to verify anything was to read it for himself. As for Maemi and Boku… well, the trial made it clear what had happened. Although the exact proceedings weren’t as clear, it was the result that mattered - the darts player murdered the delicate girl. There was nothing else to say about that. He simply had to… accept that it happened.
(Truly unfortunate.)
With a sigh, the fantasy novelist entered the lobby - only to stumble across the sight of a small student inside of it. The oversized suit made it easy for him to recognize the other as Tuan Li - or TonTon as she seemed to prefer. He really had to remember this one, because he always tended to go for the more polite addressing out of sheer habit.
While Orpheus began to greet the other, he simultaneously gave the bespectacled student a bow as well:”Hello Li- TonTon-san. Excuse me if I might take a bit of time to get used to call you so… informally. I will try my best to correct this as soon as I can.”
“How do you do? I do hope you’re faring well despite our unfortunate circumstances.“
If Tonton’s memory had not been wiped, she would have known that her reaction to the trial and the execution had been an odd one, and that she had not really been able to believe or understand it. Everyone seemed to have taken to the situation so easily, engaging with the trial system and the murder investigation and the whole shebang like it was a natural development. However, as previously mentioned, her memory had been wiped and she now remembered none of this.
Her reaction to hearing that three people had died upon waking up was one of surprise and skepticism, and she decided to ignore it in favor of finding others to talk to. And what better place to look than the lobby, the initial starting point for the whole class?
She didn’t have to wait there long for someone to approach her. Tonton’s face lit up in relief when the blond came over, who seemed very polite and genuine and someone who might be able to make sense of all this for her.
“Oh! Um... Edler-san, am I right? The really smart one? Pleasure to meet you properly, ne!”
Being an author was really worlds away from what Tonton did, and so she couldn’t really think of any common interest they could talk about. She decided to just stick with the basics for now and not try too hard like she usually did. Honesty was the best policy - and she knew a lot about policy - at times like this.
“I’m fine, really! I’m a little confused... I know people died, but I don’t even remember much about the people concerned... It doesn’t really... feel real. Do you feel like that? Or is it just me...?”
