Jen smiled, listening to him talk. His reasoning often confused her but she understood that he needed to process things a certain way. She didn’t mind, she knew her own brain was a bit peculiar. It must run in the family.
“Of course,” she said in response, reaching out to brush her fingers through his hair. “Cousin, I hate to say it, but you really need a haircut. You want me to take care of that after dinner, too?”
Bruce shrugged when she said he needed a trim. For the most part he kept his hair short for convenience though he often forgot to cut it. He guessed it had been longer than he thought. “I’d appreciate it,” he said giving her a smile. It didn’t matter how much trouble he brought with him, she always helped him. “How have things been going for you?”
She smiled back at him happily, smoothing the hair above his forehead. “Things are good. I’ve got plenty of work and I’m keeping busy for the most part. It can be kind of lonely sometimes, but at least I’m making a difference, you know?”
