Chapter 37
Trey offered him a sad little smile. âOkay, then. Letâs hear it.â
Chapter 37 summary: A week later, the band works on a new song while theyâre on the road. Brian talks about how Myrna has made a work station for herself on a different bus, so that she can actually get some real work done. Sheâs been demanding at least a few hours every day to complete this, which Brian is happy to give her.
The rest of the band jokes around and says that Myrna has Brian âby the ballsâ (bookâs words, not mine). However, although Brian is content with their current situation, heâs worried that sheâs going to leave at any time.
Chapter 38
âFresh shrimp. One of the roadies bought them. Will you make some shrimp scampi?â He set the bag on the table and gave her his puppy dog look. The one he knew she couldnât resist. âPwease.â
Girl, this guy is going to ask you to marry him soon or some shit. Please donât do it. Not because youâre still hurting from what Jeremy did to you. But because youâd be taking care of this overgrown manchild for the rest of your life.
No amount of good sex and orgasms is worth this level of manchild.
Whore, Jeremyâs voice whispered through her thoughts.
Anything but going to fucking therapy.
âYou know,â he said, âweâll be in Nevada for a show next week. Wanna go to Vegas and get married?â
Staring into her futureâs eyes, she grinned at him. Butterfly wings fluttered around her buoyant heart. âI thought youâd never ask.â
I stand by my statement that this isnât a happy ending for Myrna. Not even a page earlier, she was fucking Brian while Jeremy called her a whore in her mind.
Sheâs clearly still unpacking all of that trauma.
Yet this goddamned book has the fucking audacity to end with âLetâs run off to Vegas to get married!â âLol okay!â
But then again, that would require actual character development. And the author was clearly of the opinion that porn novels only have room for sex OR character development, and never both.
Staring into her futureâs eyes, she grinned at him. Butterfly wings fluttered around her buoyant heart. âI thought youâd never ask.â
Chapter 38 summary: Some time later, Brian comes over to where Myrna is working and begs for her to make him dinner. But before that, they start banging. He asks for soft and gentle this time, which Myrna is a little confused about. Like, it turns into this whole thing for nearly two pages.
But then they get to the actual banging. Which takes up most of the last chapter. And I would have expected nothing less. Through the entire scene, Myrna keeps hearing Jeremyâs voice in her head, calling her a whore over and over and over. But through it all, she thinks that she loves Brian.
At the end of it, Brian accidentally tells Myrna that he loves her. Like heâs known for a long time now that heâs in love with her, but he had to keep quiet about it, since Myrna is still struggling with her toxic thoughts about Jeremy, and refuses to hear the L-word. But after hearing it now, Myrna questions it, then confesses that she loves Brian too. Brian says that theyâll be in Vegas next week, and Myrna agrees that they should get married while theyâre there. Again, this is a shitty ending, with no character development for Myrna. She never worked through the trauma of Jeremy, and simply accepted Brian only on the basis that he gives her good orgasms. Ugh.

Chapter 35
Brian was still groggy from the long flight, but he didnât think he was hallucinating. There was something intimate between Myrna and this guy who had his hand wrapped around her arm.
You know what, after such non-plot, I think that Iâll take the encounter with the shitty ex.
This was Jeremy? This handsome, clean-cut man was the evil son-of-a bitch who had damaged Myrna so severely she couldnât stand the sound of the word love?
They always are. Itâs hardly ever the guy who is covered in tats and piercings. Thatâs propaganda made by the shittiest people youâve ever met, who all work traditional 9-5 office jobs. Itâs propaganda it cover up the fact that theyâre the real monsters in the world.
âIâm not just going to hit him,â Brian said. âIâm going to beat the shit out of him.â
âNo, please donât.â
Brian could not believe that she was still trying to protect the jerk. Was she mental? âWhy not? He deserves it.â
âBecause,â she said, looking up at him with concern in her pretty, hazel eyes, âyouâll hurt your hands.â She grabbed a tall, crystal vase off a nearby end table and shoved it into his chest. âUse this instead.â
I like the way you think!
âBecause,â she said, looking up at him with concern in her pretty, hazel eyes, âyouâll hurt your hands.â She grabbed a tall, crystal vase off a nearby end table and shoved it into his chest. âUse this instead.â
Chapter 35 summary: Brian shows up, but doesnât know whatâs going on when he sees Myrna with another man. At first, he thinks that she was so eager to return home because she wanted to continue on with her weird double-life. But when this man calls Myrna âmy wifeâ, he understands. This is Jeremy.
Then things get ugly pretty fast. Brian doesnât do anything except to drag Jeremy into the other room while Myrna calls the police. He threatens Jeremy to stay the fuck away from Myrna. But then Jeremy gets the upper hand on Brian, and ends up slamming Brianâs hand in the door. Myrna then stands over Jeremy and starts beating the absolute shit out of him. Which⊠Sheâs innocent of all charges. And is actually owed a couple more punches.
To make matters worse, when the police show up at the end of the chapter, Jeremy tells the police that Brian is Jeremy so that theyâll arrest Brian instead.
Chapter 36
âI will definitely press charges,â Brian said. âIâm even considering making some shit up.â
Chapter 36 summary: Jeremy said that Brian was Jeremy, then all but ran out of the apartment. Myrna told the officers that Brian was the lead guitarist of Sinners, which one of the officers recognised immediately. This led to them running out of the apartment and chasing down Jeremy.
At this point, Myrna turns to Brian and asks if his hand is okay. She then says that she wants to go with him back to LA, since she obviously canât stand the sight of her apartment. Not after Jeremy violated it, too.
At the end of the chapter, the police come in and ask if Brian will be pressing assault charges against Jeremy. Which he agrees that heâs going to be doing that. Not a lawyer here, but I think what with Brian being a famous guitarist, him not being able to use his hand for a while (or possibly suffering from permanent damage) would result in a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Jeremy and his estate.

Chapter 33
âYour ex-husband? I thought you had no contact with him. Why did he call you?â
âHe wanted to know where Iâve been for the last three weeks,â she whispered. She couldnât seem to talk any louder. As if Jeremy might overhear her.
âHeâs stalking you again,â Brian said with a certainty. âDo you have someone who can stay with you until I get there?â
âNo, I didnât call you to get you to come here. He said he was going to kill you.â
Buddy, I can promise that murdering your ex-wifeâs famous rock star boyfriend when you have a history of stalking and DV against said ex-wife is only going to get you on death row.
But how? How had Jeremy found her? Sheâd been so careful.
Chapter 33 summary: Mryna is at home in⊠wherever she fucking lives. When she gets a call from Brian. They talk for about a quarter of a page before she hangs up on him with irritation.
When somebody calls back almost immediately, she thinks that itâs Brian. However, itâs her shitty ex-husband, Jeremy. Basically saying all of this shit about how he knows that sheâs been seeing somebody else, that heâs going to kill her new boyfriend, etc etc.
Myrna obviously freaks out, and frantically searches through her house to make sure that sheâs actually alone. When sheâs certain that heâs at least not inside with her, she calls Brian. He promises to come to her right away, but she initially says no. He finally convinces her that he should come out to her, and she can hear him start to head out from whatever club that he and the rest of the band are partying at.
Chapter 34
She unlocked it and pulled it open, a bright smile on her face. It faded instantly.
âGood morning, darling,â Jeremy greeted.
She is too stupid to be alive.
Like why the fuck wouldnât you look out the window, the peep-hole, or even try to call Brian again? Hell, even calling out through the door and refusing to open it unless the person responds is better than blindly opening it.
Iâm sorry that this is happening to her. But she doesnât have an ounce of common sense.
âThat part was easy. There arenât many â57 Thunderbirds registered in this state.â
Excuse me. I need to go beat my head against the wall for a while.
âDo I know you?â Brian asked from the open front door.
Chapter 34 summary: So yeah. To make a bad situation worse (because we probably all saw it coming), Jeremy shows up at her door in the morning. Like an idiot, Myrna opens it, expecting Brian. Surprise! Itâs the man whoâs been stalking and harassing you, put you in the hospital, who accused you of cheating with a checks notes gas station attendant. Even Myrna is confused by that last one.
He insists that heâs a changed person now. As if that somehow makes a difference, and sheâs going to forgive all of the literal abuse he put her through.
He also says that he found her through her super unique car, which⊠No shit, Sherlock. No. This isnât even Sherlock. This is a fucking Scrappy Doo level mystery here.
At the end of the chapter, Brian shows up. Which⊠guess weâll have to wait and see how this unfolds.

Chapter 29
The woman intimidated the hell out of her. She had supermodel looks and a star quality that threw Midwestern-farm-girl Myrna for a loop. Claire had to be close to fifty and she looked spectacular. Not a single wrinkle marred her perfect skin, nor was there a gray hair to be found in her silky, brown hair. If Myrna had met her on the street, sheâd have thought her thirty-five. Tops. It seemed biologically impossible for her to be Brianâs mother. He had her high, sculpted cheekbones, but they looked more like siblings than mother and son.
Maybe the author wrote this with the purest of intentions, and an even purer heart.
But from my perspective⊠Itâs plastic surgery and hair-dye. Like sheâs the wife of an ageing rock star. Of course sheâs going to go get work done to make herself look good well into her 50s!
âWell, not a physician. A professor.â
âYes, he told me as much, but he wonât tell me what your degree is in. Iâm dying to know.â What little respect sheâd garnered by being a doctor was about to be thrown to the wayside. âI⊠er⊠well⊠the thing isâŠâ
[âŠ]
âWell, Myrna?â Claire continued. âAre you going to tell me? Whatâs your degree in?â
Psychology.
Why is this a difficult thing for her to explain to casual acquaintances?
Oh wait. Itâs because the author has no idea what the hell sheâs talking about. She probably watched a few of Esme Louis Jamesâs videos and got inspired.
Completely ignoring the fact that, no matter how much that Dr. James makes it seem exciting, it does tend to get old after youâve read about dildos a billion and one times.
Which is also why I can read this stuff without batting an eyelash. âAnd theyâre doing it again. And now in this position.â With the dry efficiency of Ben Stein talking about the economy.
What exactly had Brian told his parents about her? Madly in love? Sheâd never been madly in love with anyone.
Itâs also been like a month. Slow the fuck down.
âWhen Kara died, Claireâs competition for best-looking in the family was gone. I think she was relieved that her daughter would never surpass her in the modeling world.â
Yeah, no. Finding out that Claire is also a model also explains why she looks the way she does, and only hammers in the idea of her getting extreme plastic surgery in a futile effort to remain forever young.
âWhen Kara died, Claireâs competition for best-looking in the family was gone. I think she was relieved that her daughter would never surpass her in the modeling world. And Malcolm is the same way with Brian. Itâs strange to watch. And it eats Brian alive. He always makes excuses for the man.â
âArenât parents happy when their children are more successful than they are?â
âThese arenât normal parents, Myrna.â
I feel like even in the celebrity world, there are plenty of parents who would love nothing more than to push their own crotchgoblins into the spotlight.
So yeah. Claire and Malcolm are straight-up shit-ass parents.
Somebody had to fucking say it.
âI said, are you ready to mother fuckinâ rock?â He punctuated his final words with exaggerated nods of his head and thrust his microphone toward the audience. The crowd responded with greater enthusiasm.
Claire cringed. âDoes he have to cuss like that?â
I refuse to believe that a woman who married a famous rock star is ashamed by her son⊠checks notes acting like a rock star on stage.
What in the hell was Malcolmâs problem? He seemed to be making an effort to not enjoy himself. Claire had wandered off to chatter with a roadie and the lead singer of one of the opening bands, who obviously didnât realize he was hitting on Brian Sinclairâs mother.
Claire didnât seem to care that her son easily kept ten thousand people entertained with his talent and charm. She paid him no mind.
No wonder Brian desperately needed love and Myrnaâs constant approval. Stupid parents.
Literally nothing could possibly be good enough for them. Brian is going on a world-tour, but thatâs never good enough.
Maybe the only lucky one in the family is the dead sister, who died before she could realise how much her mother resented her.
Sheâd better hurry though, because she only had the span of two songs to convince him.
Chapter 29 summary: So Myrna goes to meet Brianâs parents. At first, she mainly feels awkward about the entire thing. But then she runs off to hide in the changing room where the band is getting ready.
At this point, one of the other members of the band tell her that Brian had a sister named Kara at one point. But that Claire (Brianâs mum) was super jealous over Karaâs beauty, and was worried that Kara would one day surpass her in the modelling world.
Myrna goes out, and she keeps talking to Brianâs parents. However, itâs quick to surface that Malcolm also hates his son. Again, for the same reason why Claire hated Kara. Because Brian is better than him in every way, younger, and has his entire life ahead of him. The entire thing is beyond shitty.
So the band goes on stage and starts to play. Myrna has it in her head that if she can convince Malcolm that Brian is good at guitar, then maybe things will be better for Brian. However, Malcolm is⊠well. Exactly like how youâd think that somebody who hates his son because heâs good would react towards somebody trying to convince them that they arenât half bad.
Chapter 30
Mom and Dad looked like they needed some alone time, and God knew he wanted to express his gratitude to Myrna.
Chapter 30 summary: After the show, Brian meets his dad back-stage. His dad is grumpy because âyou can never play my riff rightâ. The two of them start jamming together. While itâs not exactly an admission of âyouâre a good guitar playerâ, itâs probably the closest that Brian will ever get. He leaves his parents alone to go find Myrna, determined to âthank herâ for having helped bridge the gap between him and his shitty father.
