Fruit will last 3 weeks longer....
Why You Should Keep Fruit In Mason Jars Instead Of The Containers They Come In.......
When you get your fruit home from the grocery store, the first thing you should do is remove it from the plastic containers they’ve come in and recycle them. Next, clean out your sink and fill it with water (you could also use a large bowl). Then, toss in a few tablespoons of distilled vinegar. You’ll then want to submerge your fruit in the water and let it soak for about 10 to 15 minutes. The purpose of this is to get rid of any mold or bacteria on the fruit which is what causes them to go rotten more quickly.
Once the fruit has had a nice soak, remove it from the vinegar water, transfer to a strainer, and rinse with cool water. Leave the fruit out to dry on a tea towel or paper towel. Once dry, transfer the fruit to mason jars and seal up those lids. This is the best way to make your fruit last, particularly berries, which tend to be very prone to mold and bacteria buildup.
And that’s it! Incorporating these few extra steps into preparing and storing fruit can help you eliminate food waste, save money, and keep your fridge stocked with fresh produce for much longer.

I’m browsing the Pagan tag and I’m noticing some people appear to be confused by what is meant by “closed culture” or “living culture” or “dead culture“, so in the interest of trying to help (and give my BA in religion and culture some exercise) I will attempt to define these terms in a clear and concise manner.
Closed traditions are, as their name suggests, closed off to those who are outside the tradition. You either need to be born into the in group, or (in some cases) be initiated into it to participate. The point is that these traditions are supposed to be kept within a particular group, because of this, closed traditions typically don’t actively recruit converts.
Open traditions, by contrast, have fewer barriers to entry and often actively and aggressively recruit converts. You do not need to be born into these traditions to practice them, although there may be certain rituals you need to perform to be considered a member of the in group.
Note that open traditions can have elements or cults that are closed to certain groups of people. Mystery traditions and religious societies in Greece and Rome were only open to certain people (slaves, women, etc.) or had rituals that were kept secret from everyone but initiates. However, Ancient Rome was enthusiastically imperialist in trying to get everyone to embrace their traditions, so even though there were mystery cults that were technically closed, Roman religion at large was pretty open, aggressively so.
It’s also important to draw a distinction between living cultures and dead cultures. Dead cultures are, well, dead, the people who kept these traditions alive are dead, their descendants have converted to other traditions. This is why we refer to modern Pagan traditions as “revivals” or “reconstruction“ if these cultures were alive, there would be no need for such language.
Since these cultures are dead, there’s no harm in borrowing from them. Sumerian culture is gone. There are no great temples to Inanna and Enki. There are no more public sacrifices or festivals, and pretty much everyone in the area is Muslim now. The point is, no Ancient Sumerian priest is going to materialize out of thin air and be like “EXCUSE ME STOP THAT!” In fact, Sumerian deities would probably be very happy to be worshiped in this day and age as they go hungry without offerings.
Likewise, Heathen cultures officially died when the last Northern nation converted to Christianity. While elements of these traditions survived in folklore, officially the religions died, the cultures changed. Again this is why we refer to “the Heathen revival” or talk about Heathen reconstructionism. This is why the term “recon” even exists, because we are reconstructing or reviving dead traditions.
In contrast, living cultures have managed to preserve their traditions even though there were efforts to stamp them out. Saami culture survived while Iron Age Heathen cultures did not. Indigenous peoples still practice their indigenous traditions despite Europeans trying to kill them all off.
When you take things from closed, living cultures like most indigenous traditions, you are not only taking something that was never meant to belong to anyone outside that group (which is incredibly disrespectful), but you’re effectively contributing to their oppression, not just in the form of propagating racist stereotypes like “Native peoples are soo more spiritual and in touch with nature than us poor white people” but you’re actively making it harder for them to preserve their traditions.
Please don’t be complicit in genocide like that.
Also please for the love of everything listen to people from that culture when they tell you not to touch their stuff. They’re not doing it to be mean. Seriously, I, a white person, should not have to tell you to not touch stuff when people who are actually from that culture tell you to not touch stuff.
Seriously.
Developing Your Own Correspondences
There’s a lot said, in witchcraft circles, about correspondences. Not just what the correspondence of anything is but where that particular correspondence comes from. Some people rely on pre-written lists, such as the type I organize and post here, but many people believe that any correspondence used should be your own. In order to figure out what your own correspondences are, it is important to understand what a correspondence even is - it’s merely something that is used to represent something else. And the reason why spells often consist of things meant to represent or correspond to something else is because it is a form of sympathetic magic. Like produces like, the effect resembles the cause. Spells are a metaphorical representation of what you want to happen.
Some correspondences are near-universal, and baked firmly into culture. There is mass recognition by everyone, witch or not, that roses are linked with love. Giving someone a red rose is a clear representation of love even with no other context.
There are plenty of herbs and plants and other things that have no particular widespread association to draw on. And some things that were widespread associations have since been lost, and they aren’t anymore. While these meanings are preserved in lists of correspondences, they may not actually “correspond” as much for the modern user. So how can you identify your own correspondences? 1. Spend time with your ingredients. Herbal correspondences, for instance, are more obvious and have more of a chance to form for people who actually spend time growing herbs, gathering plants, identifying plants, and using herbs in non-magical ways. I have studied a lot about foraging, and through the experience of identifying, preparing, consuming, and studying plants I can form my own ideas about what they represent. 2. Pillage your memories. Are there any memories that stand out to you when you think of certain ingredients? Do you associate certain flowers, stones, drinks, scents, colours, or foods with certain people? Certain emotions? Certain times of your life? These are correspondences. By invoking that ingredient, you may invoke the association from your memory. 3. What does it look like? This was a common feature of ancient magic-based medicine – that if something resembled a part of the body, it was a reasonable treatment for that part of the body. This is still a reasonable basis for determining the correspondence of something. The obvious one that comes to mind is the association one might have between walnuts and brains. Kawa kawa leaves always look like hearts to me, and they have a numbing effect when chewed. Putting those things together might mean that for me it would make sense to use kawa kawa in a spell to numb heartbreak. 4. Read. A lot of common correspondences are based on historical uses for things, myths, and stories that feature different items. You may not recognize those correspondences because you may not have read the source material. But even beyond traditional sources, you may form your own correspondences based on the media you take in. For instance, I personally associated ivy leaves very strongly with the O. Henry story The Last Leaf. I might be inclined to use an ivy leaf in a spell to give strength and tenacity to a sick person because it represents that to me after reading that story. Correspondences may also come from movies, tv shows, or songs. 5. Try things out. All of the perfectionism in witchcraft these days amazes me. People are often terrified to try anything - but trying things, making mistakes, or having spells fail is how you learn, gather data, reformat your spells, and develop your expectations. You’re not going to die or accidentally summon demons or create a spell that backfires in some truly terrible way. I’ve made the comparison to cooking before - you are unlikely to burn your house down by trying to learn to make scrambled eggs. So try things out! Do a spell for happiness, and if you don’t feel cheered up consider which ingredients may have lacked the appropriate punch. Do a spell for self-love and if you aren’t feeling yourself, adjust. Gathering strong representations of things is something that may take a long time. Having ingredients represent specific things to you is a result of having experiences with those ingredients. It is a result of living and being exposed to new things.
baby witch tips (2)
you are going to make mistakes. it's a given, as a human being it's bound to happen. i've certainly had my fair share!
the first spell i ever did involved blood. blood. four years later i shiver at the thought of it!! i've knocked over candles and spilt offerings. i've fumbled my words in spells. i've thanked the fae.
i guess what i'm trying to say is this - accept the fact that you're going to make mistakes, and move on. is there anything you can do to make up for it? do you need any protectionin case of ramifications? if both no - then move on.
you're not a bad witch. you're not terrible at your craft. i guarantee you that every single one of us has made these same mistakes. i still make mistakes because i'm still human.
it's okay.
What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.
What white people hear: never use sage ever, don’t ever buy it, don’t own it, don’t even look at it.
Look, y’all. There’s a couple of facets to my talk today.
1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesn’t count.
2) you CANNOT smudge. This isn’t just you “shouldn’t”— this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.
3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! We’re here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.
I’m tired of this nonsense, y’all.

I made the 13 witches runes a few weeks ago- and finally cast them for the first time.
I was looking for guidance in one of my close relationships, that recently I have felt more distant in and I’ve had lots of conflicting feelings for the person, and how I’d like to handle that.
While it didn’t give me much new insight about it, it did help to confirm some of my doubts and worries. Which is really comforting, actually. It has helped me come to a confident realization.
I need to sit with and understand my feelings better before deciding if I want to bring up these troubles with my friend. My decision is important to how I move forward with our relationship.
Okay honest question? Do you really believe in the cliches about the signs? Like for example libra being indecisive or Sagittarius being flighty?
Aries: especially the sun signs are relatively laid back, a lot of their impulsive behavior is lived out internally rather than externally. They have some goofy personalities and are huge kids no matter the placement. The moons are like very stereotypical Aries description and can be restless AF. Super spontaneous and irritable but let’s go of it half a second later. The venus and mars signs tend to be sexually restless and also have a natural teenage spark to them! Extremely restless energy characterizes all of them. The Aries rising are like super alpha and strong on the outside but high key very giving and sentimental about everything. They aren’t a walking bomb like people think but they don’t take anyone’s shit-mainly because they know who they are so when someone tries to project their will onto them they snap back.
Taurus: the suns are ridiculously stubborn, like trying to get them to do anything is just..The moons are way quieter and tend to be very organized! Not really lazy types but also not really the types to readily get up and go somewhere! Creature of comfort for sure and very emotionally sturdy people. To me they’re like a earthy version of libra and tend to value sensual touch a lot! The venus and mars are pretty hot, they’re super calm and have a means of taking things slow while keeping things exciting at the same time! Usually romantics but also with some spicy vanilla. The risings are super down to earth and easy going but detached, they also are very sexually alluring and passionate in anything that moves them emotionally! They’re pretty hardheaded lmao that’s for sure
Gemini: the suns are way less scattered then the moons and the moons are way moodier than the suns. I’d say the common trait amongst Gemini placements is actually “confusion” they don’t always know what they’re feeling and why, so they either dig, dig, dig to find the answer or they ignore it and wait for it to show up in unconscious behavior that they later blame everyone else for or themselves for not seeing it. For the sun sign they can loose track of their ego. The moon can loose track of their feelings. The venus can loose track of their affections(knowing wether or not a person or situation is what they want.) the mars can loose track of motive. The rising can loose track of identity. They often are so lively and youthful and have a genuine and authentic curiosity about the world and people around them. EXTREMELY honest people. I wouldn’t say they’re fake and phony like people make them out to be? They’re actually super loyal and emotionally present!
Cancer: the suns are way more outwardly emotional than the moons. The moons are like a watery Capricorn- Aquarius moon crossbreed. All cancer placements in my opinion tend to cautiously express emotions in a way that provides them the safest escape if things don’t pan out right, so because of this they can seem defensive or passive aggressive. The feminine planets like venus and moon in cancer tend to actually be a bit harder to read and more on the emotional unavailable side so you might not guess them to be cancer right away. The masculine planets like sun and mars are way more noticeable in both genders. All have a warm and mothering aura about them and are naturally the types to want to ensure everyone’s safety-especially those closest to them. Tbh I don’t see them cry, I’ve known many cancer male and female and I’ve never seen them cry and if they have it’s rare and in private. So no they’re not cry babies lol. Cancer risings are usually very caring and naturally tender hearted people but they’re not as run by their emotions as one would think-they’re mentally very flexible and often lost in their “thoughts” very active minds and incredible spatial awareness.
Leo: the Leo suns are typically very intimidating and have a strong intense energy about them, like a real life lion in the wild in the prowl. Leo moons are emotionally intense and can come across as cut throat for those who aren’t used to brutal honesty. All Leo placements especially the mars and Venus tend to be rather expressive when it comes to life, they want things to be authentic and hate people who are bandwagons. Leo risings are so sensitive, not like a defensive way as cancer but more so they’re very “snugglish” and vulnerable. All Leo placements tend to wear their heart in their sleeve in some way so albeit they strive to show an air of power, beneath that they’re softies looking for some strokes here and there. Leo’s do love attention that much is true! But they can smell an ass kisser so don’t think just because they’re smiling that they haven’t got their ears perked to the foolishness.
Virgo: the Virgo suns are like earthy scorpios to me! You never really know what they’re thinking and they’re always watching your every move even without any noticeable signs. They can be standoffish and rather guarded but at the same time they are extremely welcoming and comforting to be in the presence of. Virgo moons are tremendously warm natured and loving from what I’ve seen! They love to be of help and also are very shy and to themselves, they’re humble-VERY HUMBLE and prefer to keep a lowly profile no matter what. The venus and mars are old school lovers, into the love that you build rather than that GO FAST type of romance. They actually get more affectionate and soft over time. The rising tends to be a bit of the bad boy, bad girl aesthetic at first, the unattainable vibe. They have a lot of passion and energy boiling Beneath the reserved exterior. Are Virgos critical irl? Yeah actually! But in the masculine planets it’s towards others, the feminine planets it’s towards themselves.
Libra: libra placements in general are kinda paradoxical. They don’t really ever show you anything of themselves, they show you bits and pieces of a glass window they hang outside their room. They are charming and very sweet people-but out of all the air signs they’re the most private and hard to get to know. Libras hide behind charm as a means to keep a friendly distance from the real personal stuff, they value secrecy like a motherfucker and if you try to move in to quickly they will vanish in a poof or smoke. The libra suns are a bit detached in a more hard to grasp way, but they do have a glow about them! They’re often very crafty and insanely good at social situations. Libra moons are in my opinion more Scorpio than Scorpio. They tend to be romantics and huge lovers of art and the old style. Emotionally they’re very sentimental but everything I’ve said to you isn’t visible looking from the outside, due to the fact that they keep everything face value emotionally, and if they do feel comfy enough to emote it has to be with a lover or someone who’s proven themselves. Libra risings are the ultimate chameleon, beautiful smiles-yet super earthy values-not the type to lead you on purposely but the type to hit you with the cold “you’re not my type” this isn’t to be mean either lol libra risings actually don’t hunt for romance and prefer the single life until someone really catches their eye. Libra can be indecisive but usually as they get older it’s less of a “idk what I want” and more of a “i just don’t really want it”
Scorpio: now I could say so much, but there is already so much spoken on scorpios. So I’ll be short. The suns are huge babies, not very intense and usually very friendly-they do have their habits, such as being a bit mysterious and slightly edgy but for the most part they’re super sweet and if not a little childish. The Scorpio moons on the other hand are veg stereotypical Scorpio and can have intense habits, intense emotions, vindictive ways and also powerful sexual urges rooted in their emotional expression. The venus and mars are usually all of the above but for the specific areas of life they rule,so Scorpio mars are like that in a sense of drive, sexual expression, energy. Scorpio venus is like that towards beauty, romantic involvement, art, and so on. Scorpio risings are usually very powerful people with a strong energy to them, but similarly to cancer rising when you get to know them they’re mad brainy!! Super smart guys and gals who need a mental connection as much as an emotional one. Scorpios are super passionate for sure, but sex isn’t all they think about! In fact more than anything they want to be “understood”
Sagittarius: the suns always have this wise energy about them! They seem mad old! Like in a spiritual and literal standpoint. Super easy going but also very blunt and not so readily sympathetic towards the issues of others. Sag moons are pretty happy go lucky! Though they have a chill Demeanor for the most part. All sag placements are big lovers of travel and that nomadic sort of lifestyle! The moons can be a bit emotionally distant or “bored” when it comes to people or life from time to time, so more than other sag placements they need a constant taste of variety or they get restless. Sag mars can be a bit on the irritable and passionate side, with huge emotions-for the most part they’re optimistic but they also have a tendency to over step. Sag venus can be romantically indulgent! The types to want freedom in love but also want a very affectionate/hands on type of partnership. Sag risings are very happy souls! Very bubbly and playful-when you get to know them though you’ll see they’re run by their emotions and have a very gentle side to them that not all know about. Sag placements are necessarily flighty tbh they just don’t want to settle down and it be with the wrong person-because let’s face ur commitment is a HUGE deal and for it not to be with the right one? Fuck that.
Capricorn: so the consensus is that Capricorn placements are Debi downers? Well Capricorn sun and moon actually are very similar, and don’t actually have very notable differences besides how the energy is expressed. Cap suns are more emotionally available whilst Capricorn moons are not. Cap placements in general are very passionate and extremely emotional but all of that is behind the many walls they have up. Capricorn placements are mainly focusing their energies into work and or success as they always have a goal no matter what. They’re not money hungry like people make them out to be, a lot of the time it’s just that they grow up in households where success is their only means of having that eventual long sought after security, that final milestone. They’re very emotionally mature and take everything and everyone seriously-because it’s how they’d like to be treated. They’re very gentle souls who prefer to show care through actions rather than words as well. The venus and mars tend to be drawn to/attracts an older more refined beauty as they age and also tend to be the types to hold off on partnerships or sex until they are ready or later in life. All cap placements age backwards from what I see! The cap risings look serious and can have very aloof energy when you first meet them but they’re actually very fun and playful people! Albeit they are very studious and grounded, they’re often very easily aroused by life and love to have a good time.
Aquarius: everyone says they’re detached and non emotional, I wouldn’t say so. They’re honestly like someone mentioned a “emotionally unavailable Pisces” which I think is so true. They are highly emotive but just struggle maintaining a equilibrium between their intense emotions and their overall mental landscape. Aquarius suns are actually EXTREMELY unavailable, not necessarily in a mean way-just as a sense if they are almost not really there with you. Aquarius moons are not emotionally present yet they’re “emotional” people. Despite the hard to grasp nature of Aquarius these people are still very much so internally a overflowing river of thoughts and feelings clamoring to be heard often giving people with Aquarius placements that infamous “detached” and “aloof” vibe. Aquarius venus and mars are very? As they say 80s? They tend to be super into the freaks and geeks! The ones who stand out or have that strangeness about them, I know I sound like every other google doc but seriously they love the weirdos ♥️, that being said it’s hard to know if they like you because they often send mixed signals due to Uranus nature. Aquarius risings are often enigmas, social outcast but when you get to meet them man, they’re spiritually incredible folk! Often fighters who’ve triumphed over some of life’s hardest fights. Aquarius placements are honestly very loving and loyal! They do tend to shy away when you come at them to hard with feelings but once they have a second to take it in they match your emotional intensity the best they can(only after running away from you for like 98 months)
Pisces: now we have the real detached sign out of all the zodiacs. People often rank Pisces for being the most deluded and emotionally victimizing sign, I beg to differ seeing as how most Pisces I’ve met actually are the opposite. Pisces typically have very deep and profound emotions that’s can be beyond what most of us feel in our day to day-because of this Pisces tend to isolate themselves, often living in a world of their own. Pisces suns are often very welcoming, they feel like home-yet they’re often the youngest looking ones! They seem a bit sad but really all Pisces placements seem a bit on the verge of tears. Pisces moons are often very bubble and goofy, yet you can still feel a bit of their sorrows inbetween every laugh. Pisces venus and mars can be real mysterious-you don’t really know how they’re feeling or what it is that they want-this often makes them feel alienated or as if it’s a lost cause trying to express themselves. Pisces risings are remarkable, very receptive to their environments but once you get to know them you’ll see that they’re not as “lost” as you originally thought. Pisces tend to actually maintain a great deal of distance from people often pushing them away before they get to close as a defense mechanism. Normally a person with Pisces placements is highly emotional but never in a way that would allow them to be vulnerable in-front of or around others especially the older they get-this in turn can make them seem cold hearted when in reality they’re just cautious of the world and it’s cruelty.
Basically all the signs are weird and thereby we are all weird, and those google descriptions are only half the story.
•Your Aries moon friend is probably drinking tea rn. Your libra venus friend is probably watching a movie alone in a shower cap-happy asf.
•Your Taurus mars buddy is probably getting impatient at Burger King, and your Scorpio home gurl is probably wearing bright colors on the way to sephora.
•Your Gemini moon bro is probably expressing his feelings coherently rn and your Sagittarius venus friend is probably planning to stay in Harlem for the rest of her life.
•Your cancer sun mom has probably never side stepped an issue in her life-and your Capricorn moon Pops probably cries more than your mom does.
•Your Leo mars sister is probably mad humble and your Aquarius mars cousin is probably extremely emotionally driven.
•Your Virgo rising doctor is probably the most lost person you’ve ever met and your Pisces rising dentist is probably the most analytical, self aware person you’ve ever met.
We’re so much more than those descriptions, since there are so many aspects of astrology to take into account!
But wow didn’t mean for this to be this long but!♥️
I might lose followers for this but hot take:
“there are sustainable ways to use animal products, leather is good resource, indigenous people hunting sustainably is not an environmental problem”
and “individuals should take some responsibility for the environment, veganism and plastic-free lifestyles should be heavily encouraged”
and “veganism/vegetarianism/plastic-free is not an accessible lifestyle for everyone”
and “large corporations and corruption are directly responsible for the climate crisis, and dismantling them and not having a fossil fuel based economy is the most important thing in saving the environment”
are all coexisting and complementary.
