Update:

Spindles case is severe. For whatever reason his stomach is huge and full of air. We ruled out liver lobe torsion since his blood sugar and liver enzymes are fine, but the stomach is massively distended.

I have no idea what the hell could do this. His hay is the same. His food is the same. His routine and area are the same. But suddenly this happens and its terrifying.

Spindle is on iv now with lidocaine which is fantastic. they did succeed in getting an iv cath in, and the ultrasound showed good blood flow to his liver. So hes not anemic.

To address the severe stomach distention, the team is going to pass a tube into his esophagus into his stomach to try and get the gas out to prove him some relief. His case is severe and theres still a chance of him declining.

I would likely need another 12 hours of hospitalization after these 24h are up to ensure he really gets the care he needs. If anyone can donate to keep him up, it would be appreciated.

Thank you to all donors and signal boosters for getting him into the ER you all very well saved his life but we arent out of the water yet

Rabbit has been nothing short of awesome. I'm so unbelievably happy to have had this character in my life, and I can say without of a shadow of a doubt that my life has changed for the better because of her.

However, a person's mental health comes first. So I wish Isabella Bennett the absolute best of luck with whatever she does next. Thank you so, so much for everything. Godspeed.

And to the fandom: please please please god don't harass anyone. We are NOT repeating what happened with the Jon ok? Or the way people acted about Zer0. If Rabbit is, for real, getting retired as a character and the band hire a new robot performer (if Hatchworth is only around temporarily) PLEASE for the love of WHATEVER do NOT harass the potential new performer. it really pisses me off when I tell someone about my experience with lupus psychosis (caused by cerebritis, a form of brain inflammation) and they're like "wow someone should have brought you to the psych ward."

that actually would probably have killed me.

lupus psychosis is caused by an autoimmune disease (literally brain inflammation), it's not psychiatric. antipsychotics do absolutely nothing to help lupus psychosis. the only thing that can improve lupus psychosis is treatment for the lupus itself.

when people with lupus psychosis are admitted to a psych ward with a misdiagnosed psychotic disorder they often die. when people with lupus psychosis are in the psych ward they are often put on increasingly high doses of antipsychotics and other psychiatric drugs and aren't discharged. they are often denied other medical care because it's "unnecessary" and often because "it's just their psychosis"

I hope I don't need to explain why ignoring brain inflammation is dangerous.

This sounds like a fundamental failure in the concept of psychiatry. I mean, if they’re supposed to treat brain issues, and your brain is inflamed, they should treat the inflammation, just like they should treat you if your brain is messed up from dehydration or stroke. The “mind” isn’t just the brain, since it’s also affected by things like your gut bacteria, but it’s still fundamentally part of your body.

Yeah, I would assume (or hope) that screening for obvious physical causes of psychological issues would be part of standard practice in a psych ward, but...apparently not? Like do they just not check to see if there's inflammation or a head injury or a massive tumor or something?

Another good reason to avoid winding up in a psych ward, I guess.

Not only do they not, there is a condition in the DSM called somatoform disorder, which can be diagnosed in any patient who spends too much time obsessing over perceived physical illness.

Except unlike hysteria, it's not based on the symptoms not being real, it's based on what the doctors deem overreacting to real conditions. The doctor who diagnosed me with it for the irrational behavior of... listening to the behavioral advice of my doctors (diet changes, braces, monitoring my blood pressure to make sure the meds were working) for my tested and proven conditons.

On the bright side I was able to safely talk about how suicidal it made me after because my therapist agreed inpatient is not worth the risk with me.
