I disagree:

Stories that entail racism in another era should include uncomfortable words and absolutely messed up dialogue. It does NOT reflect the author of the piece-- it DOES reflect the atrocious behaviors at the time.

History is so sanitized as it is. Do you want to lose the tragedy of the everyday person who had to live through a time being degraded every day of their life by whitewashing their experiences in our more "enlightened" age?

There are many different opinions out there on this topic; but for every dissenter there is a supporter-- no matter their skin-color, gender, or religion.

Let art be art. Criticize its intended message, not forsaking the whole by cherry-picking out the parts that you/others don't like. Art IS supposed to push boundaries and confront humanity on its comforts, exposing that side few want to be shown.

jfc, do i have to respond to this? i know the difference between racism and critique of racism through its representation, i'm not a moron.

but he was a middle aged white dude writing a racial allegory about how if you love hard enough, you can essentially change races (become human... become white?). he maybe didn't mean it that way, idk, but that's sure as hell how it reads. either way it's a white savior narrative and in bad taste, even for 30 years ago.

the episode is fucked, cute as the little baseball scene at the end is.
