You can’t stop running. No matter how far you get, your legs will never stop. You don’t know what you’re running from or why, but you need to get away. There’s an unspoken freedom in running, the fresh morning air coursing through your hair, the air so fresh as if the world reset while everyone was asleep.
You’re far from home, that's all you know, but for some reason you still feel something pulling you back and it’s almost suffocating. The running is refreshing but unsettling as you hear hushed voices call your name. Maybe that’s what you’re running from, the soft whispers and hushes.
You ignore them and continue to run, until you hear your name called again.
“y/n.” This time quiet, commanding, powerful, so powerful that your legs stop, is this what you’ve been running from? You turn quickly ready to expose the voice,
You gasp, beads of sweat falling from your forehead and hear shuffling echo across the room. “Nightmare again?” your moms familiar voice calms you down as you try to catch your breath, “yeah.”
These dreams have been occurring ever since you and your mom moved to this new manor. Creepy was an understatement, the floors creaked at night even when everyone was asleep and sometimes you even feel like someone is watching you, its fucking weird. Even worse, the town is located in the mountains, leaving the manor in the middle of the woods with no neighbors.
“Hm, weird, might just be your body adjusting to a new space.” You wish you could believe her assumption but your intuition tells you otherwise.
“It's seven by the way, depending on the traffic it might take you a little longer to get to school once you hit the main roads.” she begins opening the curtains of your unnecessarily tall windows, letting in more light.
“You’d think in a town where it rains every week people would actually know how to drive in it, guess not.” she scoffs.
You throw the covers off your legs entering the bathroom, flashes of the recurring dream flickering in your mind, its gonna be a fucking long day.
It was the first day of senior year in a new town at a new school with people you barely know. Years spent building a tolerable high school life for it to be taken away because your father had to cheat on your mother.
Everything you worked for, your friends, reputation, just snatched away just when you were so close to finishing high school.
“Yes mom?” you answer, mouth full of tooth paste as you peak past the door frame.
“I’m working overtime at the office so don’t wait up for me,” you just hum, nothing new of course. Moving to a new town wasn’t all bad, at least not for you.
Your mom was offered a job months ago in this town before discovering your father committing adultery with the town's librarian. She was on the phone ready to decline the offer just when she walked in on them in your old house's lounge area. At that point she couldn’t pass it up. Way better conditions than the last job, but the hours... are not ideal, not for anyone.
“No parties, no boys, and no drugs while I’m out, okay?” You hear her snort, knowing you practically never leave the house unless you absolutely have to, “you got it.” with a roll of your eyes, you continue to brush your teeth.
She was right about you being a complete homebody, but something about this house… makes you want to be everywhere but home.
You hear the floor creak as she walks towards the door, “if anything happens, call, and um, the keys are on the table in the first floor dining room,” you glance to the door and she blows a kiss and you pretend to catch it, “love you.”
After finishing your morning ritual, you jog down the stairs to the first floor dining room, taking the keys and locking up the house.
As per usual, it was raining. It always rained in this town and it seems like winter depression is year long for this sorry place. If you lived any higher up this mountain the rain would be replaced with hail.
You sit in your car, putting on your playlist and then typing in the gps of school.
“Blackthorn’s văl de sânge academy” you mumble the name of the school, weird, văl de sânge. You take no time to pull out of the horseshoe driveway, raining pattering against the car as you hum along to your favorite song.
Around twenty minutes later you arrive, parking in the overgrown student parking lot, bag in hand as you scoff at the sight of yourself in the reflection of your car.
The uniform made you look like you were in middle school again and your hair was soaked, so much effort wasted because of this shitty weather.
You follow the path to the front entrance of the schools which looks like it was built centuries ago.
Matter of fact, now that you realize it, every building has the same outdated victorian architecture which screams haunted.
As long as no demon personally targets you-which you strongly believe there is at least a spirit or something-you’re good.
You look through the wet and foggy weather and notice the water fountain, noticing the detailed stone work of a tall man holding what looks like a heart. Yes, an actual heart.
Man what the fuck are you doing here.
And if you thought the vibe of the outside was bad, it was one hundred times worse when you stepped inside the school.
Students filled the halls, some rushing to their classes and others… their necks snap towards you. You made sure to enter quietly through the doors, leaving you wondering how they even sensed you enter.
If looks could kill, you would already be reincarnated by now.
You walk down the hall past the unsettling stares and look for the main office, glancing at your phone with the number of the room on a screenshot.
You were slightly eased as everyone started to continue on with their lives until you felt it.
That same feeling in your dream. Like you need to run, but for some reason… your body won’t allow it. You stop in the middle of the hallway, your eyes snapping to what you believe to be the source of this energy.
There were three of them, all having very similar–handsome might I add– features.
But your eyes only stop on one of them, the man with brown shoulder length hair and eyes that you think might make you collapse.
Your breath hitches as his eyes catch yours, holy fuck. He looks like he’s taken away by your presence or even freaked out? You can’t tell because you feel your mind losing its ability to think on its own.
You feel your legs start to lock and for a moment you think you might actually collapse, just at the energy his body emanates.
That is until a girl appears in front of you, causing you to break eye contact with the guy. Is it weird everyone here has such prominent, commanding energy?
“Hi!” the girl with a brown bob grins and you blink, your eyes not even daring to look back at that guy. “Sorry– didn’t mean to startle you, you can call me kugisaki.”
She is so gorgeous you have to do a double take, “Hi… my name is–” she suddenly grins, “y/n, I know,” she notices the confused expression on your face and extends her hand, “I’m the student council president and it's basically my job to know every face here, even new ones.”
You extend your hand, even if you're hesitant to.
Cold, is the only that comes to mind as you shake hands, very fucking cold.
Something about her presence, it's so dominant and powerful it makes you feel like you have to do everything she tells you to.
She grins as her eyes trail down your figure, “don’t worry, these uniforms tend to fucking suck, I’ll help you alter it a little later.”
All you can do is nod, your hand still in hers, her other hand moves to the one with your phone, pulling you closer by the wrist to get a closer look at the schedule.
“I noticed earlier that you practically have every credit except for our exclusive necessary classes.” she hums as she scrolls through the screen shot.
You two are so close, but instead of feeling warmth you feel cold air, so cold the hair on your body start to stand.
You didn't realize it in the moment but she slightly pulled you in closer, “you’re next class is in 10 minutes and its in the basement.. I can walk you if you want me to?” she meets your eyes and her grin is almost sinister and sends chills down your spin.
You pull your hand away and reluctantly back away, “actually.. I think I’ll find my way” you give a small smile, god why is your heart racing?
Barely fifteen minutes at this school and you already want to fucking leave.
She tilts her head as you walk past her quickly,
