i'm gonna say something controversial i'm gonna add to the heated rivalry sociopolitical discourse: i need american media companies to stop referring to heated rivalry as "HBO's" new show.
Listen. I'm not a huge fan of Bell Media (Crave's parent company) but i am even less of a fan of the Americentric nonsense. This show was created by a Canadian author, with a Canadian showrunner, funded by a Canadian company with Canadian media and arts funding.
It's not even a huge problem in the grand scope of things, but in the wake of America's (re)new policy of Expansionism, especially regarding its threats to annex Canada early this year, it really bothers me that the show's popularity is going to obscure that it's Canadian media. Particularly when the show is so loudly and brightly Canadian.
I've also seen people say that "it doesn't matter what sport they play it's about them being gay" and listen i can fujoshi with the best of them never fear but like. it DOES matter that it's hockey. It's a Canadian show. Hockey matters to us, even the ugly parts of it that are dark and flawed. For better or worse, it's part of our culture. To wave it off as just a plot mechanism or say "they could literally replace it with ping pong" (real quote from tiktok the neighbourhood app) as if it's not fundamental to the plot and characters is bad media analysis at best and sort of culturally insensitive at worst.
All this to say, Canada has a really rich cultural, artistic, and media scene and if you want recommendations of more Canadian shows that aren't Degrassi u can hit my line.

Next time I ask if you love me, just say yes. 💫
I just ADORE Hudson's moves in the second gif 😆✨✨
As if showing love to each other in their own language wasn't enough, they also have to do it in Spanish. They're so cute 🥰
