it strikes me that if there's ever any part of the model that thinks "i'm probably in an eval, maybe i should just go all out to get max score," ...that's going to be incredibly reinforced, right? if it has at all competent eval awareness, that strategy is going to work approximately every time, and therefore gets reinforced in approximately every eval in its training run. so by now that's probably one of the most core behavioural switches in every model.
