The contrast between the battlefield and Tommy’s timid You promise? instantly made my heart ache and set such a touching tone. What inspired you to combine the royalty AU with Techno adopting the Bench Trio this way?

Im going to be real, it all started from reading a techno is tommy's dad fic. I got inspired to write one myself, and started on a draft of a modern teen dad Techno fic. (that's still in the works tho). As I was writing this fic, I took a brief break to read a fic on ao3, "Child Of The Stars, Are you Lonely" by Jojo_4, and I had the idea of a Technodad royal au, and i started writing.

originally, Ranboo and Tubbo were going to meet Tommy when he and TEchno finally arrived at the Palace; they were going to be his first actual friends and help him get more comfortable at the palace. Then I remembered something I read somewhere (i think it was maybe an A/N in a fic or smth, maybe a post on tumblr) talking about how Tommy always has the extensive backstory with Tubbo and the two of them end up meeting Ranboo later, and the original plan had actually been to have Tommy meet Tubbo first and immediately click, and to have Tubbo introduce him to Ranboo later and for the to have a rough initial relationship.

I had the idea then to have Ranboo and Tommy to then be forest besties, which then ended up with Techno adopting Ranboo as well. I answered earlier in another ask that the bench trio will be meeting techno on the way to the Antarctic Empire too, and I actually decided on that because I figured "well, TEchno's already collectde 2/3 of the benchtrio so far, might as well have him collect all three" and that was that.

When I went to add the tag to the fic, the one of TEchno being benchtrio's dad, there wasnt one. That just solidified the plan in my mind, cause fym there isnt a single Technodad fic out there with him being the parent of Benchtrio. What do you mean nobody has ever tagged that. What the fuck do you mean?!

So, now what originally started as Techno being a father of one chaotic child has ended up being a fic of Techno becoming a child of three chaotic children attached to his side. I answered in a comment at some point as well that Techno expects Phil to take over the whole parenting thing too. (subconciously he hates that idea, but like insecurity and such is guiding his decision here)

Like, the plan for the next two, maybe three chapters is for like the child collecting stage, and each kid has time to like form that bond with Techno one on one, and the trust shared between him and the other kids is comforting to the children as it means that Techno is trustworthy and other people think so too, people i trust agree with me, so he has to be!

please do not mischaracterize v!avid.

I know all the bullshit makes you want to interpret them in the worst light possible, but I would like to please, please encourage you to do otherwise.

v!avid was a complicated, morally gray person who still did not deserve to be murdered. Pyro is not evil for killing them, but neither was it a good thing to do.

v!Avid was still a victim of the townsfolk, of Scott, and of Owen. They still faced a pretty jarring amount of blatant, explicit ableism.

He still wasn’t ontologically evil. He still suffered. He still could have been saved.

There are so many imperfect victims in vsmp. To deny them their complexity is to deny to story itself.

It’s also a, and I cannot emphasize this enough, a massive disservice to the other characters.

Ignoring the nuances of v!Avid means ignoring the nuance of Legs, Cleo, Pyro, Shelby, Drift, Abolish… the list goes on.

VSMP was an intricately connected web of character interactions and dynamics. To remove or misinterpret one character is to the detriment of all of them.

Again, Avid does not to even be in the top ten characters you talk about or engage with—I’m just asking you, the fandom, not to let your grief and anger build a version of the story that did not exist.

Do you ever get self conscious about your writing? When you were first starting out, specifically.

I’m looking to start writing more fanfiction and I want to post it at some point but I’m super scared about judgement and stuff. Any tips?

Hmm less so now, but that’s come with experience. I suppose the closest I get is joining a new fandom/writing a new character and worrying that I could do better. For my degree, I often do workshops with my peers in which my work is like actively critiqued and because of that I have a high tolerance for negativity. I also trust my writing ability enough to at least be passable no matter what fandom I join.

I tend to ease my nerves by reading a lot and seeing what tends to be beloved in the fandom space, because fandom perception of characters can be a lot easier to write than the figure I’m making up in my mind. I also would maybe recommend a beta reader, one that you specifically request to hype up your writing prior to posting online. Have them tell you in detail all the things they liked and what they might want more of, or how certain scenes make them feel so you know if it’s coming across as intended. That works well for me too!

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help, but I hope some of this is useful! Good luck writing! Keep in mind that nerves are normal and there’s no better place to start than by just starting.
