Lorenz definitely still had the upper hand. The enemy Aromatisse was finally down, and whatever the other trainer's last Pokémon was would surely not stand a chance against the consecutive assault of the last three members of his team.
He had good reasons to be optimistic, but he couldn't get too complacent. While Marsha's apparent unfamiliarity with Lokix gave him some leverage, it wouldn't take long until she realized Googoo did have the type advantage; all Valens did was finish her off by delivering one last swift blow.
When the Sylveon was sent out, Lorenz could hear in its step that it remained as cautious as its trainer advised. The two of them were still on the defensive, maybe hesitant to use a Fairy-type attack, if the last move Marsha demanded from Googoo was anything to go by. While Lorenz initially did plan to switch once her job was done, he felt emboldened to push the bluff just a little further...
The second he heard his opponent's voice, Lorenz called:
At once, Valens launched herself toward the Sylveon, but her diminutive limb, which by all means should have connected with its thorax, instead swooshed through empty air, her target having rapidly dug itself out of view.
Well played, Lorenz thought to himself, keeping his focus on the rumbles he felt underneath their feet. That one was fast, really fast. Even if he ordered Valens to jump up now, the Sylveon would definitely still emerge through the pavement and hit her before she could get out of reach.
Guess the best thing he could do now was play around a possible Critical Hit, prepare for a counterattack, and then switch Valens out for someone who could put a quick end to the battle. The second he heard the rumbling stop right underneath his Lokix, Lorenz called out:
Valens folded her lanky limbs against her body and curled over herself. As expected, the Sylveon emerged, hitting her with the very debris its paws shoveled aside as it sprang up with as much ease as if it was diving in water. The Ground-type move seemed to shake her to a degree, but clearly not enough to do too much damage. For all he knew, Endure wasn't necessary at all, but one could never be too cautious, especially in this competition.
What really mattered was that the Sylveon wouldn't be able to fire up another move right away, meaning it was wide open for an...
After her foe's attack pushed her off by a few meters, Valens landed back onto her feet and extended her long segmented legs to launch herself high up in the air, twirling on herself as she did when making her entrance. She dived down straight toward the Sylveon, until finally, the serrated segment of her heel connected with the Fairy's skull, with an impact brutal enough to make the wind in the street blow.
The type matchup wasn't in Valens's favor, so there was no way this single hit would have been enough to be a decisive blow. Still, on the off chance it did manage to keep the Sylveon too confused to act against his next Pokémon, surely the extra turn was worth the risk. And speaking of his next Pokémon... Lorenz immediately called his Lokix back into her Ball.
"Sorry, seems you're goin' back home earlier than planned after all. Spec, you're up!"
Lorenz threw what he believed to be his last Poké Ball of the match, his Gengar slithering out of it, bracing himself for the Sylveon's unavoidable next move as he took Valens's place on the battlefield.
Alright, we shouldn't need Mega Evolution to round things up, Lorenz thought. Despite his inability to actually see, he extended an index toward the adversary and its trainer.
