thanks for answering me and thanks for the meme xDD that translation is a bit different from mine (i'm talking about the panel you post), in the chapter that i read othello didn't say ol' chap and it's strange bc calling him ol' chap is like more friendly. So i searched for your chapter to look up better the translation and i noticed another thing, othello says to grell 'now that we found the defect [of the BD]'... so he knows how to defeat ut and he's just callin for backup to finish him?

Hi again~ Exactly, there’re two English versions of Kuroshitsuji manga online, the one I used, the panel captured in the last answer, is less credible accurate I think. LOL forgive me if I’m too careless, normally I only use it for editing memes so the text doesn’t matter too much. This version is quicker to search, it’s from Manga Rock which appears as the first result by my google. Yes, I’m lazy you can blame me for that. (☞ﾟ∀ﾟ)☞

Besides, when Othello talked about the defect, I think he meant the BD project isn’t complete yet because of the blood supply issue. We see UT is still trying to get more blood for R!Ciel, his body can’t function without the correct type. Apparently, O!Ciel and Sebastian have discovered this too. So the first step to defeating UT is to interrupt his plan, which is the current investigation all about. At the meantime, Othello and Grelle are calling for backup which can be considered as the preparation for the later confrontation. Maybe the dispatch is also doing some kind of investigation on the BD project, in their way of course.

Vincent Phantomhive is one, if not the best, character in kuroshitsuji, “dorky Vincent” sometimes just makes me want to squeeze him so tight and protect the shit out of him

but can we talk about how caring Vincent is? When he’s with Rachel or Ciel he literally melts into a puddle of joy and pride, he’s so proud of his little family and will do anything to protect it, even if “anything” means wearing a pretty apron (stolen from a servant?) to cook something nice with little Ciel for his wife, who isn’t feeling well

there are so many things to say about Vincent and I’m so in love with him that I just hope we’ll have more flashbacks of him and Rachel in the future

a blog about reapers? i found the right person to ask this ahah how could undertaker recognized othello from the stairs with that nearsighted face he has.. and all the hair in front of his eyes too. I hc he recognized othello's voice and in case i'm right, this means that they know each other more than what it seems, since i personally don't think that it's easy to recognize a voice of a person you don't know very well

Hi Anon, thanks for asking me! It’s an interesting question. I absolutely agree with you that UT recognized Othello’s voice. His nearsighted problem is canon, and also he doesn’t rely on his vision too much as he said during the battle in Campania arc.

However, I don’t think the hair in front of his eyes is a big deal. He could simply cut his curtain into two pieces, you know…when nobody notices him, and then observe secretly through the gap, lol I’m joking. Anyway, he does read books like that with that long bang full cover his eyes. So maybe it’s just kind of art style?

As for the relationship between UT and Othello, I also agree they know each other more than what it seems, at least, more than a normal comrade/co-worker. Othello calls him White Hair chan/Whitey, I don’t think we’ll give someone a nickname but not use it from time to time.

Besides, if we go further, I’d say Othello didn’t tell the whole truth, in other words, he did hide something in the conversation with Grelle. I believe we may get more information about their past as reapers at the right moment in the future.

Today I want to ask about the following. Someone reminded me that Toboso sensei said she finds romance very hard to write. Then maybe Undertaker and Claudia weren't in love with each other?

Hello Anon! And that’s a very interesting question. :) 

I know what tweet you’re talking about, but personally I always thought she meant that romance-coded stories are what’s hard to write, rather than introducing romantic feelings that one character may have for another. 

And honestly, I’d say most manga authors would tell you the same thing (see Sorachi and Gintama): if you decide that romance is going to be a huge part of your plot, then you have to spend time writing about the development of romance/intimacy between the characters as much as you have to focus on your plot, so it’s twice as much hard work, especially if you go slow burn (see Chihayafuru, see Akatsuki no Yona).

When it comes to Kuro, it’s definitely not a romance-coded story, as in, romance is not one of the genres. It doesn’t mean that there can’t be no romance or loving feelings at all (TG was not romance-coded either but see Kaneki/Touka), just that it’s definitely not inherently belonging with the plot.

I don’t know if my point is clear, so I’ll just mention Lizzie. Kuro is not a romance-coded story but Lizzie’s feelings are still crystal clear. Kuro being the dark story it is though, rather than having it happily blossoming, Sensei chose to develop her character through half ripping out her heart. 👍

Now when it comes to UT and Claudia, no matter if you think they were in love or UT had unrequited feelings or they were just pals, it’s a thing of the past so it won’t make Kuro head for the romantic genre after 28 volumes either.

And, again, knowing Sensei’s love for grim development, if there was anything between them, it’s definitely not going to be presented as full of rainbows. I mean, just look at UT’s character be it now…

or even in the past:

The guy’s life reeks of sorrow and it’s heavily implied that Claudia died a terrible death anyway, so even if she’s a huge part of UT’s motivations nowadays, it’s different for Sensei to write about it retrospectively and to give it tragic vibes, rather then having to develop it slow burn & positively from day 1.

There is your difference, but I’m sorry if that’s not particularly clear? :/

Look, in general Kuro is more about giving macabre vibes…

…than anything else, so whenever Sensei adds love, it gotta be grim and tragic (look at the twins who were once loving brothers, look at Soma, look at Vincent and Rachel embracing each other after being murdered, look at Ann and now imagine what could be in store for Alexis and Frances :/). 

Anyway, in my opinion there are still several hints in the story implying that UT at least had feelings for Claudia, whether she felt the same or not. I’m prepared to be wrong though, as always. :)

You said it right, I love Undertaker, eheh c: Indeed, he's not good to hide his emotions when it comes to talk about the Phantomhives. Perhaps that's why he preferred to not discuss the subject with Seb, at the manor. Idk if it's correct to refer to his mental issues as a 'dissociative identity disorder', but sure the traumas he experienced throughout his life play a big role in his personality disorder, since he's clearly mentally unstable, and switching persona could be a coping mechanism.

I love him too ಠ‿↼ (everybody knows that lol) You have a point! Another reason why UT didn’t answer Seb, I’d like to add if I think further, it’s all about timing. Yana is definitely good at foreshadowing and plot-twisting, she also likes leaking some clues from time to time. I mean, the major reason we follow a story is because of curiosity, right? I think the relationship between UT and Phantomhives will be revealed before/after the final battle of Our Ciel and UT, at the earliest. Maybe we’ll get one or two chapters of UT’s past at the very end of the story. Yeah, flashbacks before finally taking down the mastermind, like always lol. Besides, I headcanon that UT isn’t the type who likes oversharing. So we might obtain more information from others, like Francis or Tanaka?

I strongly agree with your opinion about UT’s mental status. And personally, I think it’s absolutely correct to refer to it as ‘dissociative identity disorder’. Nothing is canon yet so we can think as we want. Maybe Yana will make him even more insane in the later chapters, who knows? We all can have different opinions,  theories, and headcanons. We’re enjoying manga but not being ruled by it. For example, UT x Claudia is my OTP, I believe they’re romantically involved, no matter an unrequited love or UT is twins’ grandfather. But if in the future, Yana canonically chooses another possibility, it doesn’t matter at all and nobody can stop me from shipping my OTP lol. Well, that’s the reason why I can tolerate all the pairs and theories. There’s not going to have a shipping war, even somebody against my OTP.  ｡◕‿◕｡

I was the one who sent that ask to @blackreapersreign and I've just seen you reblogged it with one of my favourite Kuro-meme (come on, that face is priceless) and yes, I too headcanon he's got a dissociative identity disorder XD First time I see your blog and already loving it [sorry to send you this ask twice, my computer is dumb and I'm not sure you received it].

LOL Thanks for all the nice words Anon! I received this ask once correctly, so don’t worry. I’m super happy that you love my blog ^^ (maybe you just love Undertaker (¬‿¬) ), but honestly I’ve never paid attention to optimize my blog content and decoration since I’m so dumb of social media stuff. One fact of my Tumblr experience: I created my account this year and @blackreapersreign is the first one on my Following list.  (ノ▽〃) 

Ok, now let’s talk about our Undertaker. In fact, when I say he has dissociative identity disorder, it’s part of a joke. XD But I do think he has some mental problems, as we all know his funny side seems so unnatural especially after the reveal of Campania Arc. It might be a depression caused by the lost of Phantomhives. At the end of Green Witch Arc, he laughs at Diedrich and one second/panel later cries on Vincent’s photo. Just look at Diedrich’s reaction, Undertaker’s sudden sadness really surprises him, like he has never known the true mortician before.

Undoubtedly, Undertaker doesn’t manage to control his emotion when it comes to Phantomhives. Or, he doesn’t want to hide it. He is good at playing with different masks, so to say multiple personalities, but his obsession with Phantomhive is real.

Personally, I headcanon he used to be an extremely serious man who didn’t express himself a lot. Then after all the suffering, he now goes way too far… We still need more flashback (at Yana’s mercy lol) to confirm his true personality.    

On this blog, I post and reblog mostly Kuroshitsuji related content, a lot of kuroshit posts because of my weird sense of humor lol. And I also post some photos of my cat. I hope you enjoy it Anon! Undertaker probably… enjoyed seeing that thing very much. One, for how they looked, and two… lowkey for how easy to manipulate they were. It gave him ‘three years worth of laughter’… pun intended.

Morning~ Is it popular the theory of undertaker being the twins' grandfather in japanese fandom? I really doubt about it, but western fandom you know, tends to believe it lol. Is it possible just undertaker have a unrequited love to claudia, kinda one sided? I wonder if you have some clues about his mourning locket? Thx!

Hello there~

The Japanese fandom has of course brought up the possibility of Undertaker being the twins’ grandfather, but whether this theory is popular or not is a bit vague. In the Japanese fandom, the way theories and head-canons are discussed is quite different than in the English speaking fandom.

In the Japanese fandom, if somebody has a theory they would usually phrase it like: “Isn’t it possible that [……]? But we have no way of knowing whether this is really true”, or “I have a feeling that [……], but we would need sensei to confirm this before making more statements about it.” When somebody has a different theory, usually it goes like: “Oh, that is indeed a way to look at it too. I personally think that [……] but this also needs confirmation still.” So it is rather hard to tell whether somebody really disagrees with a theory, or even finds it ridiculous.

Of course there are reactions like: “I agree completely!” or “Good point!”. But for theories that have as little ground as Undertaker’s past, the Japanese fandom is less likely to make definite statements about it.

Right now, the most prominent arguments for and against Undertaker being the grandfather as discussed in the Japanese fandom are the ones summed up in this post.

It is not impossible that Undertaker had a unrequited love with Claudia, but Yana did make statements about finding writing romance hard, the most explicit one being this tweet.

In the past, I have made BL (romance) the main theme of my productions, but it is in the past now and I was left disheartened. Whether it be hetero-romance or homo-romance, having romance as a main is something that requires tremendous energy. To me, drawing romance is much harder than drawing zombie battles or tank showdowns… 【Toboso】

Therefore I doubt Yana would go torment herself with writing explicit romance; it is not for nothing that so far, there has only been romantic/sexual teasing, and whatever romance is around is in the far background.

As for the mourning lockets, I personally have no idea… The Japanese fandom has idly wondered who the remaining people are, and why they are so important to Undertaker, that he carries them along with Claudia Phantomhive’s, somebody he is clearly (directly or indirectly) obsessed with. As of now, there is truly no clue however.
