so resynced added my favourite speech from the novelisations (the blackbeard one that goes “living like this is like living with a large hole in your gut”) but they did it on the ship. mid battle. so you can barely hear it over cannon fire and people shouting. okay.

I have many thoughts about Sergeant Kerry Lewis but one thing I love love love about her character is that she's not like 'secretly maternal' towards the children she teaches. Yes, she treats the boys with respect and compassion but there's no 'maternal' side that comes out to humanise her, her character being strong and disciplined and physically adept as a woman isn't seen as something that needs to be balanced out or fixed by a reminder of her femininity. When Monty is having a crisis, she doesn't rush to baby him or tell him everything's going to be okay, she talks calmly and logically to him, and makes sure he is with his friends and is doing okay. Obviously there is nothing wrong with maternal female characters but it's sooo refreshing to meet a character like Kerry who subverts expectations by being more traditionally 'masculine' in her demeanour and occupation, and doesn't have a hidden feminine side to redeen her in some way. oh to be a girl in the 1940s falling in love with a girl, that is in a lavender marrage, so bad i throw up on her so she lets me borrow a nighting dress and offers to help me put it on. then our lesbian fairy godmothers also fall in love and start singing pink pony club

okay but since rover was the main npc of lockstock and the unofficial ‘leader’ of the job i think it would be really cool if in the war for donlon it was susie. her trying to traverse the war-torn city she never even really got a chance to call home, maybe leading a group of factionless people or doing a job for the mudlarks since they seem like the ones who are going to be the best off in the war. all while never being sure whether that dog man who literally fell on to her boat was really her husband. and potentially still not knowing what actually happened to him. idk i think it’d be neat. not to mention wonderfully angsty.

i don't think the krag twin's realtionship with cheeky is fully superiors vs underling. i think they see cheeky as a father figure (and. considering what they did to their actual father that's not a good thing). but their posse seems to be the two of them, gordon and cheeky, and in esme's they almost seemed to be trying to justify what happened, to cheeky, 'things got out of hand', 'it's strong stuff'. if they truly only brought him to clean up after them, what's the point of saying that? cheeky's already insanely loyal, even when ian basically tells cheeky the krags are cannibals, cheeky still never verbally doubts them and the krags must know that. so why are they making an attempt to seem blameless, to shift what happened as the tea's fault rather than theirs, when cheeky would make up excuses for them anyway? i think they also treat cheeky so poorly as a sort of revenge/wish fulfilment, albert wouldn't bow down to them- he was their elder and superior- but cheeky respects the krags' authority too much to not listen, everytime they humilate cheeky, tell him to shut up, sit down, clean up, wipe blood on him, shake him around, i think they're seeing a paternal figure there and i think that's why they keep cheeky close, they never got proper closure with albert since he never gave in to them so cheeky is their replacement

#i am fascinated by their relationship #the thought of cheeky being around as the twins grew up and potentially even being around for them when their dad was busy #given how close cheeky and albert were #especially since from the little we know about albert krag and the ‘community’ the mobgoblins used to be #it seemed like he genuinely had ambitions for the east end and for his family #part of which was him becoming more like a bigwhig which obviously pissed off a lot of the mob including his sons #and albert being usurped ‘before his time’ and the deterioration of the mobgoblins afterwards #suggests that the twins didn’t have the plans or ambition their father had when they took over #because they weren’t *ready* to be leaders yet #it was probably an action taken out of greed and arrogance as well as anger at their father ‘betraying’ the mob’s values #and after that they didn’t really know what to do. so they kept cheeky around like two kids still desperate for a father figure’s guidance #although pride and arrogance made them refuse to recognise that as the reason #idk sorry for rambling in your tags op but i find the krag family SO interesting #roll from the hip #rfth #lock stock and two smoking fireballs
