Life had settled into a quiet routine at the safehouse. For the first time in what felt like forever, Elena was attempting to pretend that everything was normal. Roman played in the yard, blissfully unaware of the chaos that had ruled their lives just months earlier, and Elena found herself able to breathe again.
Her pregnancy was going well—no complications, and with Damien by her side, she felt more hopeful than she ever had. They weren’t just surviving anymore; they were trying to build something better.
Damien's Birthday
One afternoon, Elena decided to do something special. It was Damien’s birthday, and despite everything, he deserved a celebration. She bought a cake and hung up a simple banner in the living room. When Damien came home, he was surprised to find Elena and Roman waiting for him, the little boy excitedly pointing at the candles.
“Happy Birthday, Daddy!” Roman squealed, his face lighting up with joy.
Damien laughed, his heart swelling with gratitude. “Thank you,” he said softly, pulling Elena into a hug. “I didn’t expect this.”
Elena smiled, feeling a flicker of happiness. “You deserve it. For everything you’ve done for us.”
They shared a quiet, intimate evening together. The world outside felt far away. But just as they finished the cake, Elena felt a sudden, sharp pain in her abdomen. Her eyes widened.
“Damien… I think the baby’s coming.”
The Arrival
That night, after spending hours in the labour ward, Elena gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. They named her Esra, her tiny cries filling the room as they welcomed her into the world.
Damien held Elena’s hand tightly as they both gazed at their newborn daughter. “She’s perfect,” he whispered, brushing a tear from Elena’s cheek.
Elena smiled, exhausted but overjoyed. “We’re finally a family,” she said softly, her voice filled with hope.
A Few Months Later
Months passed, and life at the safehouse became more peaceful. The tension that once gripped their every move began to ease. They were able to move around town more freely, without fear of being recognized or followed. Damien’s contacts ensured they remained under the radar, but they were still cautious, never fully letting their guard down.
Elena's Birthday & A Proposal
On Elena’s birthday, Damien planned a surprise. He took her and the children to a secluded beach, where they spent the day playing in the sand and enjoying the sun.
The sea breeze felt refreshing, a symbol of the new life they were building.
As the sun began to set, Damien knelt down in front of Elena, his eyes filled with love and determination. “Elena,” he began, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small ring, “I’ve wanted to ask you this for a while now. Will you marry me?”
Elena’s breath caught in her throat as she looked down at him. She had never felt so sure of anything in her life. “Yes,” she whispered, tears streaming down her face. “Yes, I will.”
It was the perfect moment—a glimpse of the future they had both longed for.
A Fresh Start
After the proposal, they decided it was time to leave the safehouse behind. With Marcus gone and things quieting down, they needed a fresh start. They packed up only the essentials and set their sights on a new town: Sunset Valley, a quiet coastal town where they could raise their family in peace.
Damien knew the truth about the town, though. He had completed many jobs there in the past, but it was still one of the safest places compared to others.
Sunset Valley
When they arrived in Sunset Valley, the town appeared peaceful and inviting. The ocean stretched out before them, and the house Damien had found for them was perfect—a two-bedroom home perched on a cliffside with a breathtaking view of the sea. It was the perfect place for Roman and Esra to grow up.
As they moved in, setting up their new life, Elena felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time—hope.
The future was still uncertain, but for the first time, it felt bright.
They had escaped the darkness, and for now, everything was going well.
Elena hadn’t been feeling well for days. The nausea hit her each morning, and despite her best efforts to dismiss it as stress, she knew it was more. The reality of her situation was now undeniable—she was pregnant with Damien's child.
That afternoon, after Roman fell asleep, Elena sat in the bathroom staring at the positive pregnancy test. Her heart raced with a mix of fear and hope. "Damien's baby," she whispered, her hand trembling. She knew this would complicate everything. Marcus could never find out.
Marcus Finds Out
That evening, Marcus returned earlier than usual. Elena had tried to stay calm, but Marcus had always been suspicious. As if fate played a cruel trick, Marcus found the test’s wrapper in the trash.
“What the hell is this?” Marcus demanded, holding up the crumpled wrapper, his voice laced with rage.
Elena froze, her stomach twisting. “Marcus, let me explain—”
“You're pregnant?” He took a step toward her, his face twisted in anger. “And it’s not mine, is it? It's his!”
Elena knew she was in danger. She needed to diffuse the situation, but Marcus was beyond reasoning. “I’m not your property, Marcus.
He lunged at her, grabbing her arm. “You’re nothing without me, Elena! You’ll regret this.”
Damien's Intervention
Suddenly, the door to the house burst open, and Damien stepped inside. His expression was cold, his eyes locked on Marcus. “Let her go, Marcus.”
Marcus sneered. “You think you can just come in here and take what’s mine?”
Damien didn’t answer with words. In one swift motion, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at Marcus. Elena’s eyes widened in shock—this wasn’t how she imagined things would play out.
Marcus laughed darkly, taking a step toward Damien. “You don’t have the guts. She’s always going to be mine. You can’t protect her.”
Elena’s heart pounded as she watched the scene unfold. She knew what was coming.
“This ends now,” Damien said in a low, determined voice.
Before Marcus could react, Damien pulled the trigger. The sound of the gunshot echoed through the room as Marcus fell to the ground, the smug expression wiped from his face. Silence followed.
Aftermath
Elena stood frozen, staring at Marcus’ body. She couldn’t believe what had just happened. Damien holstered the gun and rushed to her side, gently pulling her into his arms.
“It’s over, Elena,” he whispered, his voice steady. “You’re safe now.”
But Elena couldn’t shake the numbness settling over her. She had wanted to be free from Marcus for so long, but this…this was too much. She pulled away slightly, looking up at Damien.
“What do we do now?”
Damien was already in action mode. “We pack. Only the basics. I’ll take you and Roman to one of my safehouses. No one will find us there.”
Elena nodded, still dazed, as Damien helped her gather what they needed. Roman was still asleep in his crib, unaware of the chaos that had just unfolded.

Elena always knew life with Marcus was dangerous, but the day she found out she was pregnant, her reality became even more fragile. A baby. She hoped—no, she *prayed*—it was Marcus’ child. While the thought of having his baby was terrifying, it was better than the alternative. The nightmare of carrying the child of one of his customers haunted her.
A Mother’s Instinct for Protection
Fear gripped Elena like a vice, but she had to survive. Not just for herself anymore—but for the life growing inside her. Desperation drove her to do something she never imagined: she bought a gun.
"If Marcus ever finds this…" Elena whispered to herself, feeling the weight of the firearm in her hands. She shuddered but tucked it away safely. In her world, there were no guarantees except danger, and she couldn’t afford to take any more risks.
Despite being pregnant, Marcus forced her to continue working for him. Every second was torture, but she gritted her teeth and endured it.
It wasn’t for Marcus anymore—it was for her child. Secretly, she used the money to visit doctors, ensuring her baby was healthy. Every appointment was a small victory.
The Birth of Roman
Autum was no longer, and the cold winds of Winter bought Elena the arrival of her baby boy, Roman. Alone in the silence of their apartment, Elena gave birth without a soul by her side. Marcus was nowhere to be found, out doing who knows what.
When Roman’s cries filled the room, Elena felt a rush of emotion—love, fear, exhaustion, and hope all mixed into one.
"You’re my everything now, little one," she whispered, holding him close, her tears dampening his blanket.
Two days later, Marcus finally stumbled home. His eyes barely glanced at Roman.
"That’s your son," Elena said softly, holding the baby. She waited for him to care, to at least acknowledge the life they’d created.
"Yeah, whatever," Marcus shrugged, barely glancing at the child. "Make sure he knows his place."
Her heart sank. Roman deserved so much more, but Marcus made it clear he had no interest. Despite her resistance, Marcus forced her to hyphenate Roman’s last name. "It’s my kid too," he had said, his voice cold and threatening.
Since the birth, Elena hadn’t returned to work. She couldn’t bear the thought of it, nor could her body. Miraculously, Marcus didn’t force her—too busy building his brothel, now called "The Bordello."
Elena doubted the place would last, but Marcus had a stubborn determination to make it work. Still, the less involved she was, the safer she felt.
A Glimmer of Hope
In the middle of her darkness, a light appeared—Damien. They had reconnected, and to Elena’s surprise, he didn’t care that Roman wasn’t his.
*"I don’t care who his father is,"* Damien told her one evening. "I care about you. And I want to be there for Roman. I want to be part of your life."
Elena’s heart ached with a mixture of hope and fear. Could this really be true? Could she have a future beyond Marcus?
"What about Marcus?" she asked, her voice trembling with worry. "He won’t let me go. He threatens me every day."
Damien’s face hardened. "I won’t let him hurt you anymore. I’ll find a way."
Over the months, Damien proved himself as a loving, protective presence in both her and Roman’s life. Roman adored him, laughing and reaching for him whenever he came over.
"Da-da!" Roman giggled, holding his arms up for Damien.
"Not yet, little guy," Damien chuckled, but Elena saw the emotion in his eyes. He loved Roman as if he were his own.
For 9 months, Damien and Elena found a sliver of happiness. But Marcus still held them captive with his threats. Despite this, knowing Damien was by her side made Elena feel safer than she had in a long time.
A Night of Decisions
When Roman turned one, Damien threw a small party at Central Park, filling the day with joy and love. For a brief moment, Elena allowed herself to imagine what life could be like—free from Marcus, with Damien by her side.
Later that night, Damien stayed over, keeping Elena and Roman company. As they talked, he stumbled across the gun she had hidden.
*"Elena…"* Damien’s voice was low, filled with concern. *"What is this?"*
She hesitated. *"It’s for protection. In case things… get bad."*
Damien shook his head. *"You won’t need this, I promise you. I’ll protect you. Both of you."*
But she could see the conflict brewing behind his eyes. Damien was growing restless. He wanted Marcus gone.
*"We need a plan,"* he said one night, pacing the room. *"You and Roman can’t stay here forever. Either you come live with me, or…"* his voice trailed off, and Elena knew what he meant.
The week began with a storm of emotions. Marcus’s behaviour had grown increasingly cruel—his words sharper, his absences longer. He seemed to take pleasure in breaking Elena down, tearing apart the fragile hope she clung to. They argued late into the night, their voices echoing in the small, empty space that was once their shared dream. But now, it felt more like a prison.
The Illusion of Change
Marcus, ever manipulative, wasn’t blind to her subtle acts of rebellion. One evening, he returned home unexpectedly early, a dangerous sweetness in his voice. He apologized, promised change, and for a fleeting moment, Elena’s heart wanted to believe him. He was the man she fell in love with, if only for that brief moment. His charm was intoxicating, and she found herself drawn back into his web.
The truth, however, was far darker. Marcus had no intention of changing. Instead, he had been plotting a way to exploit Elena further. He revealed his sinister plan—a brothel business, and he forced Elena into it, stripping her of what little autonomy she had left. The realization hit her like a tidal wave, and though she felt herself drowning in despair, a small, stubborn part of her refused to give in.
A Glimmer of Hope
As the days bled into nights, Elena’s spirit remained unbroken. In the midst of this nightmare, a light began to pierce through the darkness. She met someone—someone kind, someone who saw her not as a pawn in Marcus’s game, but as a person worthy of love and respect. His name was Damien, and his presence in her life felt like a lifeline.
He didn’t know the full extent of what she was going through, but in his eyes, Elena saw the possibility of a future free from Marcus’s control. Maybe he would be the reason she finally found the strength to escape. Maybe he was the key to rebuilding her life from the ashes.
