I am 100% a fanfic girly, all for making ships and scenarios, but I honestly hate how sexual the fanbase is towards Carl, specifically.

I appreciate that, like a lot of female chars, Carl is expected to go through these ordeals in his underwear. But he is specifically kept from having underwear, just for the joke of it. People (mostly Donut) are always making comments about it, making comments if he seems to get hard or whatnot. Not to mention his FEET, which he is FORCED to use for the AI's pleasure. Everything he has to go through, he does not want, but he has to be put through constant sexualization from others just so he has a decent chance at survival.

And he owns it, yes, I think we can dare say that Carl knows he's hot, but he himself doesn't think sexually, barely even romantically. In the books, in the moments where he says he would be distracted by boobs or whatnot, he is unable to because of the harsh scary reality he is in. I wouldn't call him asexual, but in this world everything sexual comes with a dark twist, so he may as well be.

I just hate that the fans see Carl's discomfort and they get turned on by it. They got all hot and bothered by Carl and his dad and subsequent 'daddy issues', or the whole abusive situation with the AI. It's just disgusting, he clearly doesn't want it, the whole point is that he does what he must to survive despite constantly being taken advantage of, and he's just not a sexual character- everyone around him is far hornier, including Donut. It's because of Donut that we see Carl likely has more sexual/romantic trauma than we first realize because of Bea.

No, seriously, it just comes off as rape fantasy to me. And it makes me angry because DIDN'T YOU READ THE DAMN BOOKS. You really can't see how violated Carl is? You really don't see how it makes you one of the disgusting "fanclub" members that all of the characters hate because they can't get their mind out of the gutters and see the crawlers as real people?

So if you're going to sexualize Carl, at least try and put some effort in to actually account for his character. Not 'I think violation and abuse is hot'. Thanks.
