ten million dollars. he asked the impossible. she’d need to make a life-altering decision within seconds. the offer was tempting, and she would have appreciated it if not for the hammering in her head. was she really willing to the toss the life she had built for money? and was she willing to toss it without weighing the pros and cons? “okay.” her answer slipped off her tongue and it took a few more seconds for her mind to catch up with her moving figure, her hand sliding into his. whether is was due to the money or mystery, ana had recklessly made up her mind. an action that would have surprised anyone who knew her. “sounds like a good start.”
Everyone had a price. They might believe themselves above a paltry number, but few men could offer one like him that made things difficult to turn down. He gave the guard a polite wave as they exited the room. “Even if you change your mind, it will be a nice start to a private law firm of your own, don’t you think?” he chuckled, amused by her blasé answer to a number that he knew had shocked her. Gerard turned and tucked her hand into the crook of his elbow as he began making his way towards the exit. The other hand started to unbutton the unflattering prison attire they had put on him, opening the front to show the undershirt. “I hope you don’t have any issues with Paris or France since that is where I live.”

marlo did his best to ignore the violent thumping in his chest. perhaps if he didn’t note the shifts in his body language, she wouldn’t either. if she did, she might register how his fingers curled around hers tightly or his frame shifting even closer to her. muscle memory. “you stick out like a sore thumb. would’a had to be the blindest man if i ain’t catch you in the crowd.” that, and he’d be able to spot her in any type of crowd. “stay close.” he pushed past the heavy door and shouldered through the heavy swarm of spectators. halfway through their trek, he felt their hands loosening. worried about losing her, he scooted back to wrap his arm around her waist and tugged her into his chest. “sorry.” he grumbled before continuing on. when they’d finally pushed through the clearing, he let go of her waist and nudged her ahead of him. “i’ll be behind. where is your car?”
The crowd was pushing and pulling as they made their way through and while the alcohol let Marlo slip through without being noticed, it didn’t help people see where they were going. She felt herself being pulled away from him with wide eyes and then he was there again. Somehow he was always there when she needed him and Jemima curled against him as he guided them outside. Even though she tried not to let herself get to close, she could smell him. She should have been bothered by the salty smell of sweat and she tried not to blush when she realized bothered wasn’t the way she felt. “Um...” she gestured towards the back of the parking lot with a sheepish laugh. “There wasn’t a lot of open spots left when I got here... and you know I don’t like to park...” So naturally, she had been willing to park at the furthest corner to avoid trying to fit her car between two others. It was easier when the driver took her, but her mother wouldn’t approve of where she was.

The rest of the game goes by quickly, and while Liam has a decent end to the game, tipping the puck into the empty net in a late overtime push, it’s not enough to steal another win from the opposing team. Maybe there was some truth to Kailani’s earlier statement about them taking advantage of the break. Either way, he doesn’t have the chance to check his phone until after it’s all over. Once the losing team disappears from the ice and the announcers close out the evening, Liam’s reply comes through.

Now that she realized who he was, Kailani watched the rest of the game with a different interest. It was one thing to watch as a fan of one team and another to know someone playing. She found herself cheering him on anyways. They didn’t win which meant she didn’t have to feel guilty about it either. The stadium started to clear out as people headed to their cars, but she stayed in her seat as she text him back. There was no rush to leave. He had promised her a tour and even if she only got to walk around the hallways, she would be happy to see it.

the pair shared a kiss, eliza liked to see him smile, “that’s easier said then done” eliza mutters and a huff falls from her lips, she wasn’t like him, she wasn’t a bainsbridge so she couldn’t just command a room and tell them all to shut-up, she didn’t have the power. then all of a sudden she was in front him and it just felt like it was only the two of them in the room, everyone else had gone, a drunken grin comes across her lips, “oh really? is that the case” she mumbles, a soft giggle falling from her lips, “well how about YOU make your final rounds and i’ll meet you upstairs, in your office” she tugs at her bottom lip, hoping he’d take the hint.
Much of his life had been decided from the minute he was born. Who he would be and what his future would be, so he held onto control where he could. Work helped and he was privileged enough to have the money to do as he pleased. There were other ways as well and Theo raised his eyebrow at her obvious hint. “Telling me what to do? You know that’s not how this works.” he smirked. It wasn’t a bad idea though. Everyone would be busy down here and even if anyone did notice their absence, no one would come looking for him. “Go on up and I will meet you up there.” He had a big office to himself, naturally with a couch as well as a desk. A decanter of scotch better than the swill they were serving down here if she got bored waiting.

It’s a seat right up front, not quite by the boards, but close enough. Given both his time constraint and her team preference, it wasn’t an easy pull, but he’s glad it worked out. During warm-ups, and even throughout the first period, it takes him a moment to locate her. At first, he can’t be sure if she made it. Kailani had no reason to trust him, anyway, but once he spots her through the crowd, he smiles. After the period ends, he stands from the bench with the rest of his team. Hoping to get her attention, he pulls the visor of his helmet up and waves in her direction, shooting her a smile before following everyone else down the tunnel.
All the ribbing was light hearted and after growing up with a single dad, she knew how to hold her own with rowdy guys. She had a great time and if it weren’t for the wave, she might have missed him. Oh. So when he told her that his name was Liam, he hadn’t mentioned the fact that he was also the Liam Wright. The rookie from the team that crushed her team that she had been shit talking all night. “Shit....” she swore to herself, giving him a small wave back before he left with the rest of his team to the locker room. When he said that he worked at the stadium... Kailani went for her phone to text him quickly: [ text ]: i don’t take back what i said about your skills but lol surprise to me?!

ana arched a brow at the intrusion. their time wasn’t up nor did she ask for an early dismissal. she stood, shifting to block the guard’s path after he’d grabbed gerard. “not sure how long you’ve been working in the prison system but that’s not how this works. you grab him when my appointment with him is done or i ask you to come in.” confusion rose in her gaze, which she shifted between the guard and prisoner. as if one of them would give her an answer. the guard ultimately had the power to do what he wanted and she doubted gerard had any clues to his extraction. unless.
her gaze now rested on the guilty party, confusion being replaced by suspicion. he’d claimed earlier that he would walk out of the prison. her heels dug into the tiled floor, determination flashing. like hell she’d be the attorney that was caught in the middle of a prison break. she was barely taken seriously as is. “look. one of you has thirty seconds to explain what’s going on or so help me god, my heel is going to be so far shoved up your ass, you’ll be tasting the red bottom. what do you need to take him for?”
If she thought that she could stop them with her words as if they were in a courtroom, she was wrong. Gerard looked up at her with a bemused expression as he considered her. He had always been fascinated by women and appreciated them in any form they came, but she especially fascinated him. “Come with us, if you like.” he offered her as his hands were uncuffed by the guard. “Decide for yourself if I’m lying or telling the truth about what I can do.” For her human mind, it must be an impossible concept to grasp in the span of an afternoon. Unfortunately he had run out of time to converse with her more and to show her in other small ways until she was convinced.
The guard started to usher him towards the door and although he knew they were likely on a strict timeline his brother had arranged, he raised his hand to pause. “If I’m wrong, you can tell them that we took you as a hostage and no one will be the wiser. If I’m right, think about what you can do with a man like me behind you and you can focus on the cases you want to take.” Ana wouldn’t be the only lawyer in his employ. He would be stupid to have only one when he lost one every few decades, but she would still have ample free time. This was her last chance because she had no power to stop him unless she really wanted to try to fight him. “How does ten million in an account in your name to start sound?”

eliza was nervous, stressed, this was a big deal for the both of them, she kind of wished that she’d just stayed at home, so he didn’t have to deal with this. “that’s true, but i reckon even if they’re gossiping about me in the office, that’s it they are gonna” eliza jokes a little, a grin coming across her lips. then she feels his hand on her body, she can’t help but giggle a little, “a couple, to calm my nerves” she tells him, leaning up for a kiss.
He allowed the kiss with a small smile, giving in. “If you already know, then don’t concern yourself with it even if you’re in the same room.” It seemed simple enough to him, but for him, it was that simple. He was a Bainsbridge and that meant he didn’t have to care within these walls. Theo stepped around her slightly, pulling her against the front of his chest so she was facing him with his body blocking out the majority of the room behind him. “Concern yourself with what your date thinks and I know for a fact you only have clothes on still because he needs to show face a little longer.”

“ More than happy that I could ease the pain. ” After having caused it in the first place, still unbeknownst to her. “ And it was nice to meet you, too. ” Curious, Liam watches as she pulls her phone out. In the meantime, his own gaze falls back to the counter in front of him. That is, until he hears his phone sound from his pocket. Then, leaning to the side, he retrieves his phone. The screen is still bright from her message, and he smiles as he reads it over, giving her a nod as he types out a reply. kailani, i remember. liam. enjoy the game tomorrow
Even if she had wanted to bring someone with her, no one could make themselves available even for free tickets. The ones who were fans had plans they couldn’t get out of although a few of the girls told her to text them as soon as she got home once they found out how she got them. Kailani still had a great time at the game by herself and she shot him a text when she got there, just to let him know even though he was working. There was a universal comradery amongst the crowd and by the end of the first period, she was chatting it up with the ones around her. Between that, the beer, and the fact that Liam had on a helmet, she hadn’t quite recognized him yet.

“ You might be onto something, ” he says, laughing alongside her. “ I guess there’s always next time. You know, in case I happen to run into another attractive fan in a bar. ” A smile is offered in her direction, and he sighs. For a moment, he seems to hesitate, hands curling in on themselves as he brings them back to his lap. “ Well, I’m usually… pretty busy during the game, but if you aren’t doing anything after, then I could probably swing a tour. Show you some of the behind the scenes stuff. For you and anyone you bring with you. ” He nods. “ I mean… I can’t guarantee how much I’ll be able to show you, but… could be interesting. ”
“You don’t have to do all that.” she waved her hand. “I totally know how work goes.” The tickets and his phone number were more than she would have thought she would be getting tonight. Being flirted with someone her age and attractive instead of some bar creep. “I wasn’t expecting the night to turn around so well after that loss, but I’m glad I met you.” she told him with a genuine smile. Hopefully she hadn’t become shit at reading people because she had every intention of showing up at the stadium tomorrow. Kailani took out her phone and sent a quick text in front of him to the number he had written down. hi, it’s kailani :P and waited to see if his phone would make a sound that he got it before hopping off the bar stool.

“ Makes sense. I guess we’ll see how he performs next week too. ” No pressure there, of course. “ So you’re willing to risk your life for a couple of tickets to a hockey game? A woman after my own heart, ” he says, teasingly. “ Well, I’d tell you that I’m definitely not a psycho stalker, but I guess that’s probably what I’d tell you even if I were… so I guess you’re kinda out of luck there―even though I’m the one giving a stranger my phone number. ” He laughs and after she decides to take the napkin, Liam nods up at her. “ Awesome. And there should be two saved. So, if you wanted to bring someone with you… just to make sure I’m not a stalker who’s trying to lure you out to a crowded arena in the middle of a game… that might be good. ” Again, teasing. “ And maybe if you’re lucky, I’ll see you there. ”
She loved hockey, what could she say? Kailani's willingly spent her night focused completely on it and she understood the love for the sport too. “You’re right.” she laughed at his tease. “It would be ridiculous for someone to use hockey tickets left at will call to lure someone in. Telling me to pick them up from your house would be much smarter.” Kailani liked that he went along with her joke though as somehow he had yet to be weirded out by her strange humor. It could be morbid and people didn’t understand it with her personality. “That’s leaves out bringing my dad as my plus one because I’m a boring person then.” She might consider bringing one of her friends along though. “I don’t want him glaring at you if you come by to say hi on your breaks. Oh, you could even tell me where you work so I can come see you unless it’s behind the scenes.”

“ What about that new guy they traded for last summer? He looks promising. ” Though the look that she gives him has him grinning, he chooses to leave it at that. “ Okay, yeah, well they’re definitely… a passionate group. Luckily, I get there early and I usually leave after most people are gone, so it’s not so bad. ” Liam shrugs. “ I mean, if you’re up for it. Every home game I get a couple of tickets for free anyway. My family lives pretty far away, so I don’t get to use them that often. ” Leaning over, he reaches for the pen that is sitting on the counter between them, and then he pulls one of the extra napkins from underneath his drink. “ I’ll give you my number, and when you get to the box at the rink, just give it to them, and I promise it’ll all be set, and… if you change your mind before then, no big deal. ” The pen is clicked back, and then he slides the napkin over to her.
The ugh sound she made out of her throat let him know how she felt about him. “I’m not enough of a superfan to follow him, but we’ll see if the rookie can last.” she told him with a shrug. He had been a major pain for her team tonight though and it was looking good for him. If only her team didn’t have to lose because of it, so that was as complimentary as she was probably going to get. “You could be a psycho stalker...” she said teasingly as she looked down at the napkin. “On the other hand, my life might just be worth the tickets.” The view was better on TV because they always picked the best camera angle, but there was something about watching a match in the stadium. The other fans crazy enough to spend money to be there and everyone is cheering without having to worry about driving the bar crazy. “What the hell? You seem alright.” and she took the napkin from him.

charlie eyed her movements, smiling to himself when she tied her jacket around her waist, almost like that would somehow help her a little more in trying to fix a car. he laughed at her words, nodding along in agreement. “ i’m a decent cook, but i’m not too picky. although, eating truckstop diner food isn’t exactly what i enjoy, you know. ” he said slowly. “ so uh, do you have any idea what might be wrong? ” he asked as he lingered behind her, looking over her shoulder expectantly. he paced around the side of his car. he wasn’t one to stress out easily but charlie was in an unfamiliar town with a dead cellphone so he was feeling a tiny bit overwhelmed with the outcome.
Did anyone enjoy it? Even the truckers? She was a piss poor cook in the kitchen and even if her uncultured palate could tell, she might be doing him a favor. “I will be honest, it’s not seeming like it.” His pacing was making her heart rate go up the way he kept hovering. Salem wasn’t used to people looking over her shoulder like that, even with something as small as fixing a car. “I was hoping something would be leaking or steaming.” she told him. That would make it obvious, but when did life want to make anything easy? With a sigh, she straightened up and looked down at her arms which were covered in grease and dirt from the engine. Oh well, she’s been covered in worse.

“ I don’t know. Some of them are pretty good. ” It goes without saying that he’s talking about himself, but again, he can’t reveal that. Liam isn’t sure that Kailani would be too keen on conversing with him if she knew that he was the one responsible for scoring the game-winning goal against her team. “ No, doesn’t sound like it, ” he says, laughing. “ But hey―if you like the excitement, then you really have to make it down to the arena. They don’t like to advertise it, but they do have some pretty good student discounts… or, you know, ” A pause. “ I actually… work at the rink. If you’re interested, I could probably get you a ticket pretty easily. Probably even in time for the game next week. ”
Her team loyalty had come with her dad, but she had held onto it as an interest when she left for uni. “Alright, name one then.” she looked at him pointedly. Truthfully, she didn’t know much about them since they weren’t her team. “No way?” and her mouth opened in surprise. In her head, she was imagining someone who worked with the team if he could get tickets. She hadn’t guessed the truth. “That explains why you’re not here for games then. Dealing with the fans there must be even worse.” This is why it was always worth it to be friendly in a bar. One could never know who they might meet and she would have been happy with tickets in the last row if that’s all he got her. “Damn if you’re not kidding with me, that would awesome!”
