I lurk on Tumblr so often but I do want to try and get a personal blog up and running again. Here's a little introduction post!

We love rodent media here at Nostalgia Club and today we’re following the journey of a deer mouse named Poppy! This book by Avi captured our hearts and surprised us with its message about propaganda and living under a dictator. Victoria read this as a kid, but had almost forgotten about it until stumbling across the book cover. Jino and Michael are first time readers, and thus have many thoughts about the residents of Dimwood Forest, including the imperious owl Mr. Ocax, the grumpy porcupine Ereth (who’s definitely not a carnivore), and Poppy’s very irritating father.

Introducing The Willowdale Project

Subscribe to any tier on our Patreon and, not only does it support our queer-led audio drama, but 10% goes to nonprofits working to protect trans youth.

It's called Cassette Tapes From August, and we started producing it in Iowa back in 2021, and our central cast still lives there. Since our story began, a lot has changed in Iowa.

In our show, our characters reside in a fictional coastal town called Willowdale. It is based on our lakeside college town where we met, Storm Lake. Both are relatively free of vitriol. Even though it's fictional, we want the world feeling a little more like Willowdale.

The Willowdale Project aims to do just that. Every three months, 10% of our proceeds from Patreon will go toward a different transgender advocacy non-profit (once we reach our goal of 25 Patrons). The first nonprofit we plan to give to will be an Iowa-based advocacy group.

We will support different groups across the U.S. and Canada each time, but we hope to consistently help an Iowa nonprofit at least once a year.

We're humbled to potentially have a platform that can benefit any marginalized community, and as queer creators recognize that so much of our privileges granted to us today are thanks to our trans siblings.

we are looking to host a panel in the coming month for audio drama fans and creators, but we need participants! the topic for our panel will be creating compelling characters in audio dramas.

to find guests, we’d love to host them through fan recommendation, so head to this google form link and shout them out there! we would prefer it if you do not recommend yourself. that being said, feel free to recommend other creators that have inspired you!

we will ask in the google form to include the show and their character you find most compelling. it is our hope that we get to include a writer and actor from two shows.

the event will be free, with an rsvp. more info on all of that soon. and, if it is well attended, we might consider making it a quarterly event!

this is another one that always gets me! actually just all of kitty's and bart's conversation...

Yes 100%!! I was so looking forward to another conversation between Kitty and Bartimaeus and it did not disappoint.

Probably the second most devastating thing for me though still is the footnote about the lion's mane and the reveal of what happened to Ptolemy...the most effective one-two punch separated by several chapters.

Hadestown was so incredible...I really should have gone to see it sooner or at least listened to the soundtrack but the proshot was a great first experience too. The cinematography was done so well! And wow so many jaw dropping performances.

The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and they’re frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.

I’m sorry but that’s thinking way too small, hear me out:

We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.

Think about it… who’s the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a moment’s notice?

But who is the single human cast member in this tale? Who gets to put in an Oscar-worthy performance alongside the Muppets and what role are they to play?

There’s no single human, everyone is a Muppet except for one scene. Circe, played by Janice, turns Odysseus’s crew into humans who still behave animalistic and are all played by Academy Award winning actors.

I was fortunate to get to see Avatar Aang in theaters yesterday and while it's by no means a perfect film, it was very fun and absolutely deserves to be seen on the big screen. So many gorgeous set pieces and breathtaking animation sequences!

At long last, we’ve come to the end of our journey through The Bartimaeus Sequence. With our reading of Ptolemy’s Gate by Jonathan Stroud the cycle of empire is complete! …Well, sort of. This book takes many turns, and those turns took us by storm! Jino absorbed the entire text in, like, a day, and Victoria remained deeply affected well after turning the final page. Michael had fun too. He really loved this one joke about certain death and soup. So join us one last time as we travel from the Other Place (our studio) to the summoning circle (your headphones) and discuss how the stories of Nathaniel, Kitty, and Bartimaeus conclude.
