Ladybug, ladybird, lady beetle?
Three views—all of the same region: The Pillars of Creation!
Hubble made this star-forming region famous in 1995, but all of the images above were captured by the James Webb Space Telescope in 2022.
The first kaleidoscopic view is a mix of near- and mid-infrared light. The second features only mid-infrared light, highlighting the dust—notice the stars seem to “disappear.” The last is strictly near-infrared light, which is teeming with stars that are actively forming.
