”You are music, beautiful music, and you are light to me.”
-Y/K musical (you are music)((I think?))
drunken Cherik. Jumping on the bandwagon finally. He is delusional, out of his mind, and madly obsessed… for better or worse. Originally got the idea listening to Jeff Buckley’s version of “Lilac Wine”. It’s very Cherik coded to me, give it a listen sometime.
A comic for me and my friends minecraft server specifically my husband @richbastardprompts character. Yes based on that one adventure time audio lol.
Sometimes I think about modern!Erik and wonder how he would dress, and I never liked imagining him just wearing generic "goth" clothes because it wouldn't be very in-character for him.... and then I had a revelation. He would dress like Michael Jackson.
Happy birthday Markiplier! Thank you for being such an inspiration and for lighting a fire in me!
I was recommended the book Rose Daughter by Robin McKinley at the beginning of the year by @novelmonger as a part of her yearly book exchange, and I’ve just finished it! Here are my thoughts:
Additional thoughts:
• I found it absolutely fascinating that while the House in Echo North is extremely claustrophobic, the castle in Rose Daughter is very agoraphobic—despite how much time we spend in the castle, you get the sense that you’ve only actually seen a fraction of it. The space seems to swallow you a bit, especially given that its layout doesn’t make sense (a similarity it shares with Echo North) and is impossible to navigate by logical means, and I absolutely love it. This book really clued me into the fact that Beauty and the Beast stories (as well as Eros and Psyche, for that matter) seem fixated on the house, and architecture in general. I suppose it serves really well to set up the dichotomy of domesticity vs. wildness.
• I have to admit, I found the third act a little bit rushed as compared to the first two—you could almost feel the author realizing how much plot she needed to cram in there in very little time. It wasn’t horrible by any means, but it was pretty noticeable when contrasted with the extremely slow pace of the book up until that point.
• I found it really interesting that the Beast’s transformation was more a result of hubris than meanness or lack of hospitality—and I kind of liked how the story implied that maybe it wasn’t even hubris, it was just a result of touching the divine. His transformation not being a punishment, but him viewing it that way regardless, was a really interesting take.
• I have conflicting feelings about Beauty’s choice at the end—the story seemed to frame it primarily as being about whether she wanted to live in the castle and inherit all of its riches, or go back and live humbly at Rose Cottage. This choice kind of bothered me, because it didn’t seem like a very difficult one for Beauty—despite all the work she put into the castle (or its grounds, at any rate), she never really liked the castle all that much, and she loved her cottage and its roses. That’s not a terribly difficult choice for her! But the second part of the choice was, of course, whether to transform the Beast back into a man, or to let him remain as he is, which was the far more interesting point, but the story almost seemed to treat it as secondary. I don’t know, maybe I missed something, but it seemed very oddly communicated to me.
• I did like that the Beast remained a Beast though, because of how much he had learned to like it. Very intriguing.
• Beauty running out and yelling at the strange, beastly powers that be brandishing a scrap of the Beast’s shirt and a heart pendant and making them flee instantly was giving Sophie Hatter in the best way possible.
• Because I was watching season 3 of Kimi Ni Todoke, I kept accidentally picturing Lionheart and Jeweltongue as Chizu and Ayane—but to be honest, the comparison kind of…works?
Despite my quibbles, I DID really like this book—thanks so much for the rec!
Oh, and here’s my dog being very perplexed as to why I was still up at 3 am when I finished the book last night:

Day Four: Spell
Of all the spells cast in fairytales, I have to think that animal transformations would be the worst.
Especially in the real version of Beauty and the Beast, where the reason the prince gets turned into a beast is because he turns down the advances of his super creepy (And super old) fairy godmother.
And then his mom and all his friends get turned into statues by his other “good”(?) Fairy Godmother so they don’t have to just wait forever for him to get turned back.
The same “good” fairy godmother also tells the actually terribley shy and polite beast to scare the living daylights out of Beauty dad so they can get Beauty to the castle.
…I think the real lesson of fairytales is to avoid fairies at all costs. Unless you wanna wind up with fur or sleep for a hundred and wake up to find your kingdom’s been annexed.
Btw, anybody looking for a good fairytale read should totally check out @megankearney ’s Beauty and the Beast webcomic, and her BATB tumblr, @batbcomic for extra fairy tale goodness.
Inktober Day 7--Enchanted
Here we have the two protagonists of the Beauty and the Beast novel I'm currently working on, Esther and Clarence. It's a retelling inspired by gothic and southern noir and set in 1930s Florida. I love these two so much and once I've got the story polished up I'll start posting it here under the title Night Music!
Wanting to try and see how close I can make an image look like an animated screenshot, first attempt, inspired by the dream scenes in Robin McKinley’s “Rose Daughter”
Y'all ever think of what the person responsible for Rocky's voice bank must've felt when those videos finally got to earth? Imagine doing a voice acting gig for a bank voice on a computer or whatever that you eventually completely forget about, only for it to one day come back to you when the FIRST intellectual alien lifeform that a human being has ever met decides to use it as their chosen voice. The mild horror. The exhilaration. The emotional punch. This is it. This is your magnum opus. You have given a human voice to a sentient rock and it will NEVER get better than this. Also, they picked you over MERYL STREEP?!?!
So, I haven't uploaded my drawings here.
Doey and my OC Berry! That's all Bye bye!
After seeing the MOB artist post that Oliver fan art and seeing “The neural abnormalities noted in doctor Newman's report" and “TOO LOUD, EVERYTHING IS TOO LOUD" in Kevin's wiki, I thought it would be funny to draw this.
This is so hyperspecific, but I just came to the amusing realization that Beauty (from Robin Mckinley’s story) is somewhat reminscient of Cyrano de Bergerac.
I present to you, Chaine. A.K.A. the crossover nobody asked for.
Sorry for the shitty doodle lol.
Chance (Date Everything!) Headcanons Because I Have Terrible Writer’s Block
• He has really bad vision, but his glasses aren’t prescription. He’s always wearing contacts because he thinks he looks better with the coloured lenses on than with his actual glasses. His actual glasses aren’t anything too special, but you can catch him wearing them when working on campaigns late at night.
• He really wants to get more tattoos, but he has a poor pain tolerance and nearly passed out in getting his forearm one.
• When he was in his era of not having people to play with, he considered writing his campaigns down in a novel format. Ultimately he decided against this, feeling that the best way for them to be experienced is through play. (However, if you were to write down one of the campaigns you played with him as a novel/short story, then gift it to him?? Another story entirely)
• Ticklish, like unbelievably so. You so much as brush against his side the wrong way and he’s folding like a lawn chair.
• I’m of the opinion that he’s quite muscular, but not super defined. Big, strong arms and legs, soft belly, phenomenal ass. Kind of one of those “I lift but I love food” builds. He’s NOT shy about it either. He knows he’s strong and he knows he’s hot, he will shamelessly use both of these things to fluster you.
• He really likes listening to fantasy-themed white noise/ambience audios. He tends to choose that over music, but he does love badly slow dancing to cheesy old records with you.
• He’d love to run a long-term, large party campaign, but he’s quietly worried that it’ll fall victim to scheduling conflicts (or that he’ll unintentionally overwhelm the people he’s playing with) and the adventure will end up gathering dust in his notebook forever, so he sticks to one shots.
• He ADORES physical touch, it’s his primary love language. He’s very aware of the people he’s with and will allow them to initiate things, but once it’s established that you’re okay with touch? WHOOOO BOY. He is all over you. He gives the absolute best hugs too!
• He’s such a cuddler too. Big spoon, lil spoon, he doesn’t care, though he does love it when you lay on top of him. He loves to be close to the people he cares about. This is a bit of a problem in the summers, though, as he runs on the warm side. In winter though?? Lay on top of him, get under the blankets, and let him yap about his current campaign.
• He’s a huge (in)animal lover, but worries that he doesn’t have the space to properly care for one. He spends a lot of time at Scraps of Hope hanging out with the inanimals. Him and Mateo aren’t particularly close, but they both like and respect one another for their respective roles with the inanimals.
• He struggles with insomnia. Often when he tries to sleep, his brain is going a mile a minute with new campaign ideas and the only way to shut it up is to write everything down; however, this has the unfortunate side effect of keeping him up until ungodly hours of the morning.
