When Disney finally understands the damn assignment:
Rodgers and Hammersteins Cinderella (1997)
Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024)
My old ass watching like:
My editor finished my book!!! This is some of what she had to say abt it! I’ve redacted some spoilers btw.
"Edits are now complete! Here is my summary, having now read the full novel.
The Beast in the Glass House is inventive and unique in a number of ways. What continued to work all the way through, for example, was the blend of first- and second-person narration. It never stopped working, tonally. It was a really inspired choice for the character and story you're telling. Another unique element is of course Damon himself. The way you put your predator/villain in the narrative position of hero reminds me of Yellowface by R.F. Kuang. And also like that novel, you had me rooting for him against my better judgements. It takes courage and skill to pull that off. A part of me was worried, REDACTED FOR SPOILERS, but you ended things perfectly and I'm grateful! You have a fantastic knack for writing tension, gore, and terror. The novel's most gruesome and gnarly moments have really stuck in my head. They're repulsive in the best ways. The isolation of the cabin setting, the unknowable horror of REDACTED FOR SPOILERS as a shadowy menace, and the way that Freya almost seems smaller, more childlike, and so vulnerable—everything works so well as a piece of predatory horror. I was hooked and I think you have a real winner on your hands."
Sidenote, RF KUANG is my all-time fav author and to have my work compared to hers is a dream!!

excerpts from 'THE BEAST IN THE GLASS HOUSE' (releases June 10th 2025)
TEAR
The quiet squeak of the traffic doors alerts me to our waiter approaching and the electricity between us fades at the interruption. You blink and your cheeks turn scarlet in embarrassment. No doubt you’re baffled by your body’s response to me. You turn your head away and use your tall glass of ice water to hide your red face. Accompanying our waiter is the mouth-watering scent of our breakfast. Irrational jealousy stings my heart when you thank him profusely for our food. It’s sweet that you’re kind to the waitstaff. A good sign, even, that you treat those beneath you well. But I can’t help the way it makes me feel. And I feel like I want to tear that boy's head off.
GASP
You’re far more observant that I initially gave you credit for. I’ll have to be absolutely certain I don’t make any mistakes, and I think that means I need to be honest with you now. “He’s my brother. About half a decade my junior. Adopted, if that matters any.” I chuckle to show you I’m teasing, and turn my hand over to feel our palms touch. It’s electric, but I can’t focus on that right now because you’re talking and I don’t want to miss a second of it. “Oh my!” You faux gasp. “Meeting the family already?” And gently bump into me with your hip.
SCREAM
The sounds of bones breaking and men screaming are the soundtrack to my chores. The atmosphere in the cabin is morose. Everyone lacks the joy that usually fills them on full moons. Their gazes lift, wolf and human alike, as I enter the cabin, and pass through the parlor, but no one makes an effort to engage me any further. They go back to their shared grief, and I go to the kitchen to scarf down food for the first time since I woke up.
SCAR
I’m still naked, but after my earlier shower, I am no longer so easily mistaken for an extra in a horror movie. My tongue is scarred over, and if I look closely enough in the mirror, I can see the telltale beginnings of regrowth. Having eaten the supporting structure of Brody’s gut last night, I can’t prop him in an upright sitting position like I initially planned to. Instead, I have to sort of fold him in half and tuck him in the bathtub. Gore stained once more — but this time drastically less so than this morning — and standing outside the tub, I use the flexible shower hose to clean myself. Once I’m satisfied, I drop the hose, not bothering to set it back in its cradle. It’ll be in full use today. There’s no need to put it away just yet.
"You can't keep playing God, Bel!"
Adrian's voice is demanding and firm, almost throwing Beltane off with the sudden confidence exuding from her twin. She scoffs then, taking his stance for what it truly is...a plea.
"Why not? No one else is!"
The jab is quick, and his flinch tells her that it hit its mark. How dare he tell her what should and should not be done on this world. He hadn't been here! He didn't have to see the horrors arising from monsters wearing human guises for over a century!
"You're killing people! It doesn't matter what they've done, you do not have the right to pass judgement! Two wrongs don't make a right!"
Beltane huffs a derisive laugh at the self righteous response.
"You said that to me once before... and I listened....and mother ultimately died because of my inaction. You have a good heart...but your obedience to deitic rules weaken you."
She steps closer into his space, and he meets her steady gaze. She continues to stare him down, pouring every ounce of unwavering determination into her following words.
"The next time I see father, I will kill him...and if you get in my way again, I will run you through as well...brother or not."
He searches her eyes, taking a reluctant step back when he realizes she's serious. His brows furrow as his lips press into a firm thin line.
"So be it, then."

As many gods of the world began leaving the humans of Earth on their own eons prior, there are few left to turn to and even fewer humans blessed by said deities to herald as champions when supernatural threats loom near. Beltane, a deity blessed antihero with the best intentions, must unite with the last of divine gifted individuals: Aulifr, a bacchant priest of Dionysus and Beaky, a chosen worshipper of the Wise Mothman, in order to stop an old threat who is back with a vengence. Together, these immortal misfits must do what few can...kill a God.
(Still worskshopping the summary, but I'm 11k words into the book, let's goooo!!!)
