Back to work 2017

To stand for something, and to have made some difference that you lived at all.” —Leo Rosten Im back to work today after a brief 2.5 weeks of parties, beach bumming, connecting with family, making new friends, eating too much and drinking too much wine! 🙊🙊 Today its back to "normal". Back to work, my desk, laptop, emails, fitting one hour slots of meetings into an 80 hour work week and generally getting a ton of shit done on time and on budget. Thats just one aspect of my world but it does not solely define who i am or the quality of life i choose to live. This break taught me how incredibly fortunate i am to live my life the way i do...i have so much to be grateful for!! For something as basic as a comfortable, clean, bed and the fact that i have the luxury to sleep as much and when i want! Yes! To the luxury of freedom of choice - its all about making choices about how you want to live...what a luxury it is to have the freedom to choose your own path every day! Choosing to be fit and healthy, choosing to work hard, choosing to be responsible, choosing to set priorities, choosing positive, motivated, energised people to surround me and keep me going! Im already looking forward to the weekend cos im vrek moeg ...all this indulgence wears one out and my bank balance is sighing a huge sigh of relief that im going back to work. Isnt it bizarre that no matter how much money I think I may have at the beginning of december I always end up broke AF at the beginning of Jan!!! 🙈🙈🙈 so if u see me nibbling on a bag of carrots at my desk pretending to be sleekgeeking or banting or sureslimming...er...no....im just kaaaaaaaaaaak broke! 😂😂😂 2017 is going to be what i make of it with the Grace of God. Without Gods grace i am nothing. Hi hoooooo hi hoooo its off to work i go...said no one ever except the seven dwarfs...wtf? 😂😂😂

Last Monday at the office for 2016

Last day of Monday at the office for 2016! Grateful to God that i have survived the stress, the traffic, the board meetings, the diaries, the moods, the policy changes, the management changes, the IT glitches, the "lean" months - which is every damn month for me and the long ass days sitting behind a desk. We dont realise how taxing having a job is on our minds and bodies. Yes it pays the bills but at what cost? And no we're not all able to "do what you love and you'll never work a day" - go tell that to Oprah. For most of us its about surviving -basically we work to be able to work because just getting to work is expensive for most South Africans. So im super grateful to have a few weeks off where i can take my nephews to the beach or sit on my couch and crochet (yes i do and dont you judge me) or maybe finish the 3 books i started reading this year. Sadly i will not be updating my fb feed with escapades in exotic places this year - due to budget constraints my passport will not be stamped again this year. Thank God for Kiev 2016! Every year just seems to get harder - both physically and financially and for many the festive season is anything but festive. For many it is a sad, stressful, lonely time of year. I sometimes wonder if i stayed in my flat for the entire 2.5 weeks of my leave if anyone would even notice ive become an isolated hermit all by myself? Fortunately im way too active to do that but i am by myself a lot by choice -- but still one does wonder in all this hustle and bustle...who cares? Its this time of the year that one misses loved ones who have passed on the most - for many this grief is unbearable. When we have time to be still and reflect and not have our thoughts stolen by busyness its pretty easy to remember the pain and the struggles of the year -not lekker at all. Many people dread having to be with their families at that christmad table - its not as fb perfect as fb posts make it seem. The inner turmoil of having to see that family member you havent spoken to for the entire year and all the drama that comes with family gatherings have many people avoiding it all together. Thats probably why we need so much tinsel and flickering lights and holly jolly christmas music to numb us to the reality of this time of year. And then theres those who say its the time of Jesus' birth....hmmm how about we tell that story to the children in Aleppo. Shit im late for work! Merry christmas everybody. Take care of each other. Weve come this far lets make it safely to 2017!! Lets find ways to fill the last few days of 2016 with joy!

Best part about living in the southern hemisphere right now is that the forecast for today is 31 degrees celcius. Its a perfect beach day and in #Capetown we are completely spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor sports - we have mountains, oceans and forests right on our doorstep in the city so why would i want to be a couch potato? Sadly i do have a desk job and that takes up most of my time...sitting...behind a desk. But it is what t is and i look forward to afterwork when the sun only sets at 8pm and we still have at least 3 hours of sunshine to enjoy. Another great thing is #healthyeating is a pleasure - so much variety of fruits and vegetables makes it super easy.
