I really love the idea of Man-E-Faces being a robotican (robot from the same homeworld as Roboto in filmation) who modified himself to better fit in after crash-landing on Eternia a long time before Roboto did - maybe in a time before Eternia would be familiar with technological beings capable of independent thought, therefore warranting a disguise to avoid freaking people out/confusing them.
Does this make the plot of Beast Man controlling him while in monster mode make less sense? Kinda yeah. But if he's a human with cybernetic augmentations, why would having a cybernetic beast face let Beast Man control him anyway? Snout Spout has a cybernetic elephant head, is he at risk of the same? (I think not- he's just an eccentric firefighter)
My initial explanation for this is that Man-E-Faces' crash landing impacted his computer mind such that while playing a role, it becomes a true part of his identity. Eternian magic responds to this - he can be controlled by technomancy while a robot, mind control as a man, and beast control as a monster. This identity switching is also why he 'gains' monster strength with the monster face, and robotic sensors with the robot one - he actually has all these functions all the time, but won't use them until he believes he can. It may be possible to 'yes and' him into using atypical powers for a given face, given proper reasoning, like complimenting his 'manly strength' to let him use it while wearing man face, or calling him a 'creature of the night' while wearing monster face to allow him to use night-vision sensors.
I guess this headcanon isn't as wild as I thought, since 47.6% of you agreed! Do you have any headcanons of motu characters? Please share if you do! 🤖

So, meet Panzerine - the mother of infamous doctor Zoog who considers him an idiot but still loves him no matter what
Very cool design and character concept, fits in very well! 💜☠️💙
Orkomaxxing
So cute and expressive! 💙☠️💜
Hi! What are your headcanons of other trollans like Zoog or Squonge, etc.? I just want to know someone else's thoughts, hehe
Funny u ask when I actually just finished making a ref for Squonge, so ig I'll show that first
The first major change other than the design, obviously, is I made Squonge a girl. I also made an actual in depth explanation for the pathological lying (cause in the show it was like "I jus wanted to impress people" thing. And I'm like "okay but what if that desire to impress people came from people inherently being disappointed in her", and that's due to her inability to do magic as well as her peers, kinda like Revelation Orko. But unlike him, she turned to making little gadgets and machines, using her small amounts of magic in the process, and technology is a sore subject for Trollans (cause of the Electroids, but eventually also bc of Dragoon and Zoog). She ended up being an outcast. I kinda wrote the entire story about her over on my ArtFight.
AS FOR THE DOCTOR HIMSELF.
My thoughts on Zoog aren't as in depth as my thoughts on Squonge, but I definitely think he's the kind of guy who would give himself mechanical upgrades. Which is what the mechanical arms are. And then at the end of those arms are scalpels, needles, drills, scissors (he can change them out for other things so). Useful tools that he totally hasn't used to give someone a lobotomy haha!! Also cause I love the Orko/Zoog rivalry concept so much I kind of made him unhealthily obsessed with Orko. Namely just due to how much raw power Orko has. That could be used to power s o much.
I need to make more Trollan reference sheets...
Both are very cute! I love the headcanons! 💜☠️💙

motu 2026 was.... not good.....
went in with low expectations. was ultimately proven right. only saw it for my husband skeletor, tbh.
🛑 SPOILERS AHEAD 🛑
i didn't like the portrayal of adam in this movie. no offense to nicholas galitzine, he tried his best, but why was adam such a manchild? just for the lolz? dude was acting more like a 15 yr old than a 30 yr old most of the time. it just wasn't believable and i wasn't fond of the performance. i know he's homesick and likely suffered from some trauma over losing his home so young, but come on, dude, act your age! "i hAve thE poweRs of a GoD!" lmao, okay? where did this come from?
how was adam's time on earth? who raised him? he thought it was a good idea to give reports on eternian history in school when nobody knew eternia was real? shouldn't he have known by that age to focus on american history in his american history class?
i don't think adam had to go to earth, but i was fine with it. i like the idea of this lost alien prince having to acclimate to a new planet, culture, and family, all while worried sick out of his mind about his conquered homeworld, growing up to be the classic down on his luck guy who can't catch a break, struggling to pay the bills, can't get a date, getting into kooky sitcom antics, but also eternally homesick and obsessively training for the day when he finally gets to drive that sword into skeletor's heart... once he finds it, of course...
Crouching Dork, Hidden Badass vibes ✨
also, Roommate Guy was funny
why is idris elba cussing in front of all these kids?
he was lowkey wasted in this film, ngl
i liked camila mendes as teela; didn't care for the father/daughter dynamic, tho.
skeletor doesn't execute the king and queen because.........???
loved the music, esp the theme for eternia
action sequences were mostly good, esp the one b/t trapjaw and duncan, the battle at snake mountain, and skeletor vs he-man at the end.
skeletor just... comes out of nowhere. no context is ever given. what's his backstory? where did he come from? why is he so insecure? what's his relationship with evil-lyn, etc? does anyone in eternia really know him?
[redacted] was good as skeletor, who's the only reason to watch this movie; i liked how he was going for this tim curry/ian mckellan impression.
still would've chosen someone else over [redacted], tho.
the digital effects for skeletor's face were... off... it looked like his jaw was floating in a lot of shots? also, that "smile" he makes during the snake mountain sequence was mad crunchy 😬
he sleeps in a cocoon. interesting, but why??
also, where was panthor?
dialogue was funny until it was Bad -> ("why would skeletor do this?" / "because he's bad") 🤢🤢
loved the updated costumes for he-man, skeletor, and teela
"the sword sent a signal!" lmao, when? would've been nice if there was a visual cue onscreen!! a faint beacon of light shooting up from the sword or something!!
the cops just disappear on the highway after beastman attacks.
characters like beastman, cringer could've been animatronics/dudes in suits...
spikor looked AMAZING!!
i like how adam and trapjaw are fighting on this runway and none of their allies try to get the sword or try to help until after....
skeletor just lets adam and co. get away without blasting them with his staff or something??
loved the toxic, freaky undertones of skeletor and evil-lyn's relationship, btw
skeletor got that ✨ bisexual energy ✨ and i'm here for it
5+ points for dolph lundgren cameo!! 👏🏾💯
🌈 g a y i n n u e n d o i n t e n s i f i e s 🌈
consistently made me laugh; liked the cheeky, self-aware humor
10+ points for HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA meme 😂😂
this was supposed to be about toxic masculinity and the power of empathy or some shit. too bad these themes weren't developed or executed properly.
adam losing control and accidentally killing his father is a concept that fucking slaps. but it has no impact because they gloss over the consequences and adam's relationship with his father is never explored enough and his father barely has a character.
galitzine's acting during randor's death was just... 🤦🏾🤦🏾
i'm sure he's done better in other films, but ughhhhhh
"i just wanted you to be yourself!" no, you didn't. you were harsh on him for being himself.
i really didn't care. about anything that was going on. what was even the plot. adam gets sword to defeat bone man who wants sword for ultimate power. okay. there was no tension, no urgency, no weight to the stakes. maybe if the movie took itself a lil more seriously?
"but the movie's supposed to be silly and campy because he-man was always silly and campy!" lmao, it still could've been a silly, self-aware campfest with good writing?? solid, clever dialogue?? well-developed characters?? interesting plot??
also, was i supposed to feel something when adam reunited with cringer?
"i can't believe it's you!!" A+ relationship building over here!!
okay. i like adam's arc in theory; a young, brash, stubborn adam struggling with his masculinity, wanting to live up to his father's toxic expectations, thinking raw strength and anger proves his worth (and facing the consequences when this mindset causes the death of a loved one), shutting off his empathy and vulnerability, only to realize true power lies in restraint, kindness, and connection. and that, he realizes, is the key to wielding the power of grayskull.
but they didn't handle his character growth well.
"mAyBe yoU hAd a baD chiLdhoOd!" 🤡🤡🤡
characters thrown in for fanservice and then killed off (ex. mossman)
the movie just didn't feel grandiose enough...
maybe it needed more scenes of skeletor's tyranny affecting the people/environment? maybe we should've stayed on eternia from the start? just more worldbuilding in general?
maidbot was funny, could've been one of the best characters, but they did nothing with her. she had an arc or something??
wished that adam mentioned adora at least once.... like.... that's your sister, dude....
movie is almost 2.5 hrs long for no reason 😭😭
ah, the "our code names are silly" cliche. okay. the explanation for why their names are ridiculous is fine, i guess, but i would've been fine with leaning into the silliness a bit more and not bothering with an excuse. they're called fisto and ram man because they chose those names for themselves and they know the names are silly, but they own it, okay?
what are these warriors' real names, anyway?
bless travis knight for gym freak skeletor, skeletor in a suit, and hr skeletor. 🙏🏾🥵
orko appears.... completely at random.... near the end of the film.... for fanservice....
"omg, why is the movie flopping? 🤯" because people don't care about he-man. because the 80s nostalgia craze is over. because the franchise hasn't been en vogue for a while. because marvel has spent the last 10+ yrs giving us similar films already and motu 2026 offered nothing new. because going to the theatre is more expensive now and it's more convenient to just wait until the movie hits streaming, anyway.
it may break even at the box office, but that's best case scenario, babes. it was never gonna be a smash hit or crack over a billion dollars. it's not based off that kind of franchise.
i think it would've worked better as an animated 100 - 115 min. film. that he-man revelation/revolution animation style with atla-level writing?? mm, yes! 👌🏾
this movie had no sense of heart, wonder, or imagination. they played it so safe, and they really didn't have to. the best thing about he-man, at least imo, is the sky's the limit when it comes to creativity; you can throw in whatever you want and it'll work. there was no excuse for this movie to be this bland and underwhelming.
no cap, a he-man cinematic universe would be wonderful to see, but that's not happening anytime soon.
travis knight is a good director. he did great with "kubo and the two strings" and "bumblebee," but this movie just didn't do it for me. 😪
nearly everybody in this film deserves compensation for having their time wasted.
as a he-man fan myself, i genuinely believe we deserved better than this.
if you liked this movie, then great! i'm happy for you! let's just agree to disagree and watch nicholas galitzine do his thing...
I strongly agree with almost every part of this review except for three points:
1) I really don't want to see a MOTUCU, especially if this level of quality is what's to be expected. For a movie to run 7 filmation episodes long and say so much less than any given episode of the cartoon just shows that animation would be a far better use of this budget. I understand that the official position at Amazon is they're ignoring the box office flop and will continue with their movie plans, and I wish that energy was given to the countless animated projects cut short too soon instead of big-budget productions coasting purely on visuals.
2) I don't think Evil-Lyn and Skeletor's dynamic is done well. 2026 Evil-Lyn acts and is treated like any other henchman with the exception that she gives orders to other minions. Beyond that she's purely a yes-man. Filmation Evil-Lyn wasn't afraid to tell Skeletor to his face how she planned to steal his power and operation from under him. When Skeletor left, she'd take his minions and boss them around to do her plans instead. She betrayed him to work with other villains. She did her own evil schemes independent of Skeletor. Clearly the show had more time to elaborate on this than the movie, but this Evil-Lyn's personality is a clear polar opposite to her Filmation counterpart and it ruins her dynamic with Skeletor to me.
3) I don't think this Skeletor was done well, like on any level. Frank Langella's Skeletor was better in almost every way. And I truly don't just say that because of Jared, I was obviously disappointed by the casting but went in blind and still wanted to like the performance. From the costume design being "What if Filmation/Figure Skeletor but blander, sleeker, less practical, stripped of key details, more MCU supervillainy" to the acting being 'bored, underacting, hyper-self-aware, and sarcastic' instead of his classic persona of hyper-sincerity - a smug sneering bastard of a winner, a pitiful sore loser. What doesn't help is the weird filtered british-sounding deep voice that sounds like a generic disaffected evil overlord instead of sounding anything like any prior Skeletor. It totally misses the demonic gremliny cackling sound of how he's usually voiced. I've seen every other MOTU show and movie and this is easily the worst he's ever been voiced- the one thing you don't want Skeletor to sound like is that he's bored/doesn't care. The only other 'bored' Skeletor I can think of is New Adventures and that was only really while he was dealing with the shenanigans of the Evil Mutants- when he was facing down his rival he was very alive and alert and animated in a way 2026 never is. 2026 Skeletor SAYS he loves being a villain but that's not something that comes across ever in the performance, it's tell-don't-show. The only good things I can say for this Skeletor are that the colors are at least accurately vibrant, the design of the Skeletor body/face beneath the lame costume is pretty good, and that while the voice doesn't sound like any Skeletor ever should, it also doesn't sound like Jared.
I had more thoughts that I left as comments on the post as this is probably already REALLY long for a reblog, but I don't want to seem like I came out of the theater fuming mad because that's not the case at all! My position on the movie was always that I hope it's good and contributes good ideas but also that I hope it's not financially viable because I just don't think live-action is a good direction for MOTU. So to end on a positive note:
* The character designs (beside Skeletor's overly bland costuming) were all really good! I especially liked how Roboto, Tri-Klops, and Trap Jaw were designed.
* There was a lot of fun references, like the barbarian statue He-Man takes the sword from being based on the prototype models of the original He-Man figure, CGI Evil-Lyn's figure in the comic shop, and use of the stock laughing animation from the filmation series.
* The Earth segment wasn't that long.
* I think the Skel-Knights are a very cool idea and well-designed, I like how they have subtle variations in their outfits and weapons that go a long ways to helping them feel like a group of warriors and not just one guy that got copied and pasted a bunch of times.
* The visuals and soundtrack are in general very good, as could be expected from a large budget project.
* As a movie, I at least find it enjoyable on a surface level, which means it basically succeeded given that it just wanted to be a fun action flick. I only critique because I wish the sights were set higher, and as @swanprophet says, I do think the fans deserve better.

Skeletor! Heyeyeyeyee
Here’s my take on an ND Stevensen-verse SPOP version of the overlord of evil!
I had an idea what what if when Adam first meets his uncle Skeletor they aren’t initially enemies. Ooh it would be such tragic drama! What if he met Skeletor and saw him as a sort of mentor figure before he got the power. So then when he receives the power grayskull he goes to Skeletor like “hey you know how you said to seek my magical destiny so I can be more confident? Well I went to this castle with a big skull on it, and now I’ve got a skull on my chest and on this sword… Would you know anything about that?”
I think that would be CRAZY
Very cool design! Great style mimicry as well! 💜☠️💙
#repost @crisys27 • • • Entry number 19 in my #motu series the evilest evil in all of #eternia…Skeletor! Debuting in #1983 Skeletor is the arch enemy of #heman hell bent on stealing the power of #castlegreyskull and conquering the planet! I went with #battlearmorskeletor here cause he just looks super cool… Fun Fact: Skeletor was voiced by #alanoppenheiner who if you look up you will find how many #80s cartoon voices he performed…But for me what stands out is he was the voice of #falkor as well as many other characters in #theneverendingstory Enjoy! #art #artwork #drawing #illustration #digitaldrawing #digitalpainting #digitalart #cartoon #animation #filmation #mattel #toys #actionfigure #characterdesign #instaart #instaartist
