Myrsky eating karjalanpiirakka.
I didn’t realize the size difference between seagulls and magpies was this extreme. I don’t remember what gull species that is or if it’s Esra’s species, but gulls are pretty big in general. If the height differences were semi-realistic, Esra would be really tall and Myrsky would be pretty short.
Picture not mine, i found it from Google and used it to demonstrate a point.
Does anybody else get “ghost notifications”, or is it just me?
When i look at my blog, it says that my original posts have x number (often more than 10) of notifications, but when i go into the post, the actual number of the notes ranges from three to zero. Does that mean that people liked my posts but changed their minds?
The protagonist Myrsky looks like a magpie, but it’s a bit more complicated than that. She’s a magpie-blackbird hybrid (possible in my verse), which results in having a white torso area like a magpie, but the rest of her body being brown like a female blackbird, and aside from the coloring and the tail generally looking like a blackbird. She covers the white area with clothes to avoid discrimination, and if somebody sees it, she’ll claim it’s leucism.
The child design is still too cartoony, and while the adult one’s pose, head, and beak border on the best this far, it could look grittier. The teen desing is supposed to be basically the same as the adult one, just smaller and with a little bit fucked-up tail feathers. Note the stance, backwards knees, vague wing-hands, roundish head with swept-back feathers, and the long centre feathers of the tail.
Trying to fine-tune Esra's and Myrsky's anatomy.
Christmas
The thing in Esra's hands is her fisherman cap. Myrsky gives it to her as a gift when they're children.
The style comes off as too cartoony, it has to look more realistic/gritty or people aren’t going to understand that this is not a childrens’ story.
I drew young Esra again.
This is one of the best heads i've drawn so far. It's difficult to get the double-curve of a seagull's beak right when you don't have practice. Notice the rounded square-shape of her head, and the head fluff that’s only in the back of her head and stops before the square’s horizontal line.

Penciled/Partridge
Penciling is a pattern of two to four black lines following the contour of the feathers on either a gold or silver (white) base. The dark brahma variety is silver penciled. In most breeds, gold penciled is called partridge. Adding blue or lavender dilution genes dilutes the black to a shade of grey. Dilution of gold in addition to the lavender gene results in a color commonly referred to as Isabel/Isabella
I’ve had the same posts sit on my dash for THREE DAYS. Nothing new, nothing gone away. Even after i dismiss them as not interesting me, they keep coming back.
You like one random post, and then your dashboard is flooded with crap both directly and vaguely related that you don’t want but can’t do anything about.
I finally stuck the right balance between anthro and normal with Oskari (the duck). I particularly like how his beak and stance turned out.
Esra (the seagull) and Myrsky still look too cartoony for my tastes.
Finished a new piece of art just in time for Halloween! The scariest part about this is that they didn’t go to medical school.
I love the aesthetic of plague doctors so I always thought it’d be fun to draw one, and figured spooky season is the perfect excuse.
