okay same anon as before here to ask about your thoughts on poppy again IM SORRY!!i know theyre not really your kind of character i think, but i still love them so much and i think you would have rlly great insight on them -w-!!!!
so small trigger warning for this but do you think that the way poppy is treated/perceived would lead to them forming a bit of suicidal/self harm-y thoughts? bc ive seen a couple people share this hc and i think its very good…
there was a really really good take on it on oscc (https://www.tumblr.com/oscconfessions/817155813945802752/huge-trigger-warning-for-suicidesuicide ((its kind of long ack-)) that ive been thinking about since i saw it because it makes a lot of sense..what do you think !!! sad poppy for the win aaaaah!!!!!
Hi there!!^^ Welcome, and thank you for sending in an ask!! :]
I'm happy to give my input on Poppy, even if they're not my usual type of favourite character, and I'm flattered you want my insight on them!! I can't say there are any ii characters that I really dislike, so I'm happy to talk about any of them!
So! On Poppy potentially being lead towards suicidal/self-harm-y thoughts because of the treatment they receive from the others.
Yeah, I'd say there's a fair chance at that given how they're treated. We don't see as much of it as I'd like, or rather, as many interactions between Poppy and a variety of other characters. Not to bring Taco into literally everything, but I'd like to see them interact, frankly, with how long she'd spent ostracised by everyone else, yeah? (Paper interacted pretty similarly to her, in the season 2 finale, as he did to Poppy) Or the season 3 cast, who barely, if at all, interacted with Cobs at all. But from what we do see, and the points made in the post you added the link for, I think it's a justified conclusion.
Being hated and not quite let into the only 'community' one has access to, for something that isn't one's fault, would be particularly painful. There are people coming around to Poppy, but there will likely be some fear for some time, if not forever. Poppy will probably looked to first when something suspicious happens, or blamed when someone from the outside (probably that Purple Corn) comes to/interferes with their little society on Inanimate Island. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised nor blame Poppy if they side with the outsiders, or at least feel conflicted, when they do come around, given how they're regarded.
Though, and this is kind of unrelated, I'm honestly not sure I'd call what they have now a community. Or at least a functional one. They are all a mess, and are repeating a lot of mistakes, yeah? Not blaming them, of course, but given how things are structured... I can't help but think things falling apart is inevitable.
But! Back to the topic of Poppy- though yes, it likely wouldn't be shown in the show, I can think there would at least be thoughts of self-loathing from Poppy, that could easily escalate to thoughts or actions of self-harm/suicide. They're not hated by everyone, at least not anymore, but they'll need more support, I think, as well as apologies, even if the memories and some feelings won't go away just because of those things.
