s5 was sydney's season. her growth. her story. her restaurant. it really culminated with her.

the part that resonated with me most was her joy. we see her happiness and her smile in so many places. i was so fearful we wouldn't get true, genuine sydney smiles because of all the stress she was going to be under. but not only did we get meaningful, intimate moments, we got this scene

syd seeing how much her meals mean to people. sharing a warm memory about her mother. witnessing the entire front of house eating her meal, the one she was afraid to share which ended up being the best ( and she doesn't even know that carmy went back for seconds !! ). ayo was so phenomenal this season, as always, but her ability to emote really took my breath away. the emotion here, despite there being very little spoken, was so powerful to me. also ebon tearing up watching her???? me as hell

is him literally, not only figuratively, handing over every bit of praise + acknowledgement + recognition necessary to achieve such an accomplishment (that he played a sizable role in) at her feet.

carmy is the best of the best yet he thematically bows to sydney in that moment.

he’s been giving her that restaurant since the first season. so of course he bestows her with that honor.

do we really think he’ll stay away from her + that kitchen forever?

facts i think need to be kept in mind when looking at trinity's hatred for/fear of langdon:

she was sexually abused as a child by a male authority figure

her childhood best friend killed herself because of their rapist

langdon is a male authority figure who is commiting a crime

langdon is a father. he has access to children

trinity, on the same day, watched her department collectively decide not to report a man for raping his daughter

some first red flags about the Pitt’s “realism” were all the way back in season 1. Remember when Santos threatened that father who may or may not have been molesting his kid? Remember when Robby REFUSED to report or investigate??

Yeah well there was a lot of (rightful) criticism around that scene. Doctors spoke up and said that you only need a suspicion to report something for CPS to VISIT. This doesn’t go on some kind of record for the parent and it’s weird that Robby would be so hesitant. Especially with a child’s mental and physical health on the line.

Then, knowing the child will be living exclusively with her father now that her mother’s imprisoned, I found the Santos scene odd. Threatening the abuser will most likely lead to him punishing the victim for speaking out. I know the show was trying to show how badass Santos is (and she is) and give insight into her backstory, BUT I’m not really a fan of sexual assault storylines being used to advance the story-arcs of others, or show how gold-hearted they are, when doing so just brings more risk to the actual victim.

AND THEN the worst thing is that they did it again. In season 2. Robby said the same thing, that they wouldn’t report. They could have totally reported.

I remember reading about how concerned ppl were abt this. They said there shouldn’t be misinformation about these types of procedures and they’re right. There shouldn’t be.

Realism, or something being “realistic,” is a narrative tool. Nothing can ever be fully realistic in story telling. The point is to give the impression that it is and that’s where the art lies.

So while child abuse happens and even false allegations happen, I found the way the show handled it to be unrealistic for actual scenarios. It was pretty obviously story driven.

But now, when they say that Samira Mohan leaving is just “realistic” for a hospital is SUCH obvious crap. Sirs you are writing this story. There is intention behind everything. Don’t pretend that this hospital is real and Gloria came down with her clipboard in the writer’s room and said: “You know we need to make some cuts. Let’s start with Samira. Randomly cut all her scenes.”

No one’s forcing anyone’s hand. So I’m just wondering like what happened? Why was she cut? They’re back peddling on all their answers so that’s super promising lol.

jack's nothing except eye candy without samira btw he exists to give her what she wants and what she needs, and he exists for her character development so that she can do better and be better (in the same manner that every female love interest exists to do the same for the mmc)(this is a subversion of that trope TO ME the rest of youse can cry me a river)(there will come a day where he will have taught her everything he knows and he will only become better by learning from her as she pushes the medical field into new horizons, the future of medicine)

Season 2 must have been a mindfuck for so many of the actors. To film these wonderful, intense, personal scenes that are so pivotal to their characters only to find out in a fucking interview that the scene was cut. Never made it to air. The story they thought they were telling has been gutted. The scenes they describe with such pride and affection never saw the light of day.

And how curious this has happened with Supriya, Sepideh, and now Isa. Hmmm. What do they all have in common?

I think there's this interesting divide between people who excuse Robby's behavior because they have been in a mental health crisis that has made them act out of character, hurt people, lash out, and act impulsively. And then there's people who were raised by men like Robby, whose fathers treated them like Robby treats Samira and Langdon and anyone else who makes them feel vulnerable and weak or reflects back on them a little too clearly. And then there's those of us who fit into both categories. Deeply aware of what Robby is going through, and deeply aware of how much he is damaging the people around him with his behavior. And deeply aware that the choice to write Samira Mohan out of the narrative protects Robby from ever having to reckon with the damage he's done to her, and apologize.

And that hurts. Because we're desperate for that catharsis. We're desperate to see a man who resembles our father to apologize. Desperate to see a man whose behavior has been similar to our own be forgiven.

But that's not the story The Pitt is choosing to tell. The Pitt does not believe Robby needs to apologize, or be forgiven. The Pitt believes that Samira Mohan's use as a character is done, because Robby needs to be likeable, and they miscalculated how many people would respond to his behavior by no longer liking him.

Also what is going on with the night shift, man. Abbot is built like a grain silo, Ellis has biceps the size of my head, and Henderson has the build of a giant whiskey barrel.

Is the night shift just where PTMC keeps their absolute units?

the pitt will be like and now here's another storyline teased that implies really big and nuanced things about a woman and her relationship to another woman. anyway, we will now go back to one of four white men who, let's all remember, have a conflict that we will have to demonstrate to you using 50 different lines over the course of a season that deliver the same message without actually advancing anything. you will never come back to that one thing about the women.

They really did just give her a disability so they could milk it for drama with a trite story about how she's too incompetent to be a doctor.

They wrapped up Samira's storyline with a lame speech that was more about Robby than it was about her.

They shoe-horned in another obnoxiously on the nose "idiot mother hates medicine and almost kills her kid" patient.

It's amazing how sharp the nose-dive in quality has been in the last three episodes.

Gave the Mentos shippers some good stuff though, so that's nice.

Jack giving night shift a pep talk and them all clearly being varying levels of into it is one of the funniest scenes in the episode. Shen is having the time of his life. Nazely can barely believe this is happening. Ellis and Crus have clearly learned to go along with it. Olive and Mateo know this is what they get for working night shift. And Jack is completely unapologetic about the whole thing.
