Soukoku Valentine Week has officially come to an end ♡
From February 14–21, and through the extension period until March 7, this space has been filled with so many wonderful Soukoku creations.
Thank you to everyone who participated, shared prompts, posted fanworks, reblogged and left kudos along the way. It’s been lovely celebrating skk together <3
While the event has officially concluded, this blog will remain as a small archive of the week and all the amazing works shared during it.
You may use the tags #skkvalentineweek26 to find all the works for this year! You may also find various art pieces and fics within the ao3 collection.
Thank you again for celebrating Soukoku together this Valentine’s season ♡
you've been waiting. reading. leaving giddy bookmarks. (or, well, some of you, but i love everyone who read it and liked it, whether you left any sort of feedback or not)
and now it's time for the master post !! even if its going to actually be. kinda short for a master post :D
i found out about the week and started writing for it way too late to finish the full eight-day week, but i'm very happy with my results anyway :)
this series features: all parts rated M for swearing; an old soulmate AU i've been waiting impatiently to implement somewhere; a lovesick Dazai, coughing up flowers Chuuya is allergic to; completely unhinged for each other soukoku in the BEAST universe; a low angst/high comedy ADA!SKK crack treated seriously.
@skk-valentine-week hello and sorry for tagging on the last day, i was totally out of it by the time i was done writing and posting yesterday, and i decided i would make this post today for the sake of my sanity (and writing comprehension. mainly writing comprehension.), yours truly!
thieves graces: 10,586 words, 4/4 (or 4/8?)
fic links and descriptions are under the cut here!
our stars will never die — 2,856 words
rated M for: vulgar language
day prompts: Soulmate AU; Chocolates; "However far apart we fly, I still come down to rest beside you". while the first two are pretty obvious, I tried to implement the phrase not as being said, but as an overarching theme for the fic.
There's barely four steps between them, but Chuuya feels like he wouldn't reach him even if he ran, even if he let out Arahabaki to break the gravity, wreck the universe stuck between them, to finally truly physically touch, to bring him back down, to lay him to rest.
It's painful how much he loves this bastard.
tagged as: Soulmate AU (SKK are soulmates), constellations, black day celebration, gift giving (i guess), Dazai-typical suicide references, light hurt/comfort, typical SKK banter, established SKK relationship, SKK are bad at feelings, theyre romantic they just refuse to present that way
just sweet daily, non-work related banter. the heat wave is out to get Dazai's ass, and Chuuya takes him out to the bay to spend some quality time together
ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/80664591 (the insert link thingy won't work for some reason)
bless you(r heart) — 2,681 words
rated M for: vulgar language, port mafia-typical violence
day prompts: Hanahaki AU; Allergies; "My every breath belongs to you".
For four days, Dazai thinks it's the occasional smoke making him cough, or maybe a nasty cold. For two more, after he's absolutely sure the red thing that just came out of his mouth is not blood or a bit of his lung or red camelia, he thinks that this is the worst way to die. Not because it will be painful, but because of how embarrassing it will be.
Or, as Alexander Pushkin wrote, “Love is the Devil’s jest”.
tagged as: Hanahaki AU, Allergies, Teen SKK handcuffed together, Dazai has a crush on Chuuya, Dazai is bad at feelings, SKK banter, Mori being an asshole, Kouyou being so done
this one was the last to be written, so it can read a little messy, but i love it nonetheless. it's okay, but i might come back later and expand on some things, you know. i meant for the more vague described scenes to read as a band slowing backing away from the listener while they still play so the music gets quieter until it's gone.
if you catch the reference in the name of this one, you get a candy.
rated M for: vulgar language, violence, past eye trauma
day prompts: Beast AU; Feeling accusation; "I hate you" — "I love you too".
Chuuya wouldn’t be able to tell you when this shitshow started, really. There was Dazai drinking, there was driving him home, there was him holding Chuuya’s face and mumbling about how the color is wrong. Chuuya bit back, hoping his Boss was inebriated enough already to forget by tomorrow. He wouldn't be able to tell how them brawling ended up with Dazai on top of him on the floor.
And for a swaying drunk man, Osamu’s way too fucking quick with a fish fillet knife.
tagged as: BEAST AU, SKK are unhinged for each other and not okay, Dazai is an asshole, feelings accusation, Chuuya has heterochromia (but with a twist), past and threatened eye gouging, hurt no comfort, angst, violence as a metaphor for intimacy, fade to black, some implied extremely dubious consent, Dazai is obsessed with Chuuya (but not this one)
this one. this one sure is something. it was a lot of fun to write, in my usual twisted evil villain laughter.mp3 way. comes with a lot of warning despite being the shortest of the bunch and purposefully vague.
(we are not only what we've been before) — 3,689 words
rated M for: once again, vulgar language :D
day prompts: ADA!SKK AU; Secretly dating; "Wait, you two are dating?" — "No, we're married."
On Friday, Kunikida catches Chuuya alone in the little office kitchen as he refills his coffee. “Nakahara, can we talk for a moment?”
“About..?”
“You and Dazai.”
For half a second, he's surprised Kunikida placed him as the level-headed one out of them two, and then he remembers the full extend of Dazai's Detective Jackass masquerade. “It's something about the office rules and such, right?”
Kunikida nods.
“Isn't partner issues should be discussed with both partners present part of it, too?”
Crack, goes Kunikida's patience, and so does his belief in Chuuya's human decency.
tagged as: ADA SKK, secretly married SKK (Kunikida is oblivious), SKK shenanigans and banter, Dazai is a little shit, Chuuya is a little shit too, Kunikida is so done, Dazai-typical suicide references, hurt/comfort, perpetrator's trauma (references to dazai's abuse of akutagawa in the port mafia, which chuuya has issues with that), mentionds of Arahabaki as a vague metaphor for BPD/intrusive thoughts (author has BPD and intrusive thoughts), no longer human has a calming/apathy-inducing effect on chuuya because of arahabaki, references to dazai osamu having low to no affective empathy, crack and angst/angst and humor
i loved writing this one, SO MUCH. i had SOOO much fun with it, i haven't has such a time writing in awhile. i love them so much. poor kunikida, victim of my and my boys shared cruelty. i love ADA!SKK AUs such an incredible amount.

Chuuya blinked. “You got me something?”
“Of course. I’m a thoughtful partner.”
“You’re a menace.”

For @skk-valentine-week, Day 7, prompt: "In every world, we are one."
On tonight's menu: 1.9k words of 15!Chuuya making questionable life choices (binding Dazai to himself).
For this AU, I assume that he has a similar situation going on to Verlaine post-sb - in that his heart got destroyed in the experiments he went through, and he's now kept going by Arahabaki. As for Dazai... well. You'll see. Dark magic™ was involved.
Warnings for blood and gore (of the heart variety), and a little bit of cannibalism I guess?
"What the hell is that?" Chuuya growls, the hungry spirit roiling in his chest bristling furiously at the coldly smiling man in front of him.
"Insurance." Randou's smile could cut through glass as he lifts the little lump in his hand, and gives it a squeeze.
By his side, through their held hands, Chuuya feels Dazai go stiff, and then double over. Not a sound passes his lips, pressed together as they are; but his discomfort is obvious.
"When you two came around, poking your noses where they didn't belong, I knew you would be trouble. Well, Dazai's ability, to be specific."
Chuuya's temper flares at being ignored, at being an afterthought yet again. He doesn't need a heart for his blood to run hot, for his hackles to raise.
"But thankfully, I stumbled upon a little treasure trove when I broke into that vault. Mori really isn't as careful as he pretends to be... or he simply doesn't care about you, kid." Rimbaud squeezes further, and small rivulets of liquid run down his gloves, staining the sleeves of his coat in crimson.
"Shit." Chuuya turns to Dazai - he's supposed to let go, to take out Randou, but right now, it seems he's the only thing keeping the bastard on his feet. "Shitty Dazai, what the hell is wrong with you?!" It makes no sense. He isn't injured, past the slice to his arm. But Chuuya's pretty sure a scythe that sharp doesn't need to be poisoned to be deadly, so what the hell is going on?
"You know, where I'm from, there's a certain rumour. 'For the right price, the witch will relieve you of the burdens of mortality. But be careful, or she might steal your heart in return.'" Rimbaud smiles, pressing idle circles into the lump in his hands. "I never paid the rumours any mind - until I came across this." The thing in his hands squelches wetly as he presses his fingers in deep.
Dazai collapses to his knees. "Stick to the damn plan," Dazai chokes, the syllables barely forced through gritted teeth. Blood follows his words. "I can only buy you a minute.”
"Enough chit-chat. Apologies for quitting while I'm ahead, but this is the end." Randou's fever-bright eyes bore into the two of them. His smile is warm, almost kind, as he says: "Goodbye, Dazai. Don't worry; I'll send Chuuya after you, soon." And with that, he squeezes his fingers shut around the lump.
A fine mist, red like wine, bleeds into the air around him.
Dazai's hand goes slack in Chuuya's. "Go," he breathes, and then, as effortlessly ephemeral as always, Dazai crumples onto the ground next to him. His hand slips out of Chuuya's.
Arahabaki slams back into Chuuya with full force, and he's upon Rimbaud before the other can even blink, careful not to touch the garland with his bare skin as he drapes it around the other. He doesn't register what happens next - he's but a vessel to the hollow hunger in his chest, the greedy void that wants to consume all life. He lets it tear Randou apart; a fitting end for the one who woke Arahabaki from its slumber.
It takes him a few seconds to regain his senses; his breathing only slows once he's bent down and made sure Randou really is dead.
Speaking of... Chuuya glances back to Dazai. The bastard should jump back up, saying it was all a prank, smiling that annoying smile that makes Chuuya want to smash his face in.
Instead, he lies on the warehouse floor, crumpled like a discarded tissue. Unmoving. Unblinking. Not breathing. The cool glow of his ability slowly fades from the garland.
The colour drains from Chuuya's vision, muted and focused on the almost-corpse in front of him.
It's over. He should leave; he doesn't owe Dazai anything, aside from perhaps the death he's experiencing now.
Fury flares up in Chuuya's chest; once again, the bastard is the one who got what he wanted, in the end.
Well. Not like this. This is too easy for the cocky bastard. Chuuya isn't going to let him off so easily.
He bends, and examines the remains of organic matter in Randou's hand. The thing he used to effortlessly deal with Dazai. If Chuuya possessed that... it would be up to him to command Dazai around like the mangy dog that he is.
It's a good thing he has his gloves, and it's a good thing he is used to violence; otherwise, the sight might make him queasy. He pokes at the motionless lump in Randou's hand, just to make sure it won't bite, or any other sort of weird nonsense - one never knows, with Dazai - before he transfers it into his own palm. True to Randou's words, the thing, tattered and battered and shattered in his hands, must be what remains of Dazai's heart.
It's small - somehow not surprising, for the bastard - and light, sitting easily in the palm of his hand. Through the glove, it's slightly warm, and it twitches, barely, as Chuuya stares down at it, trying to make sense of it all. When he had called Dazai a heartless demon, he hadn't meant it literally - but perhaps the thing in his chest had known, had recognized the kindred spirit.
Chuuya sweeps that thought from his mind as soon as it has formed.
Arahabaki whispers to him now, sweet promises of violence. Damaged as the little heart in his palm is, returning it to its owner might just be enough to truly end him through shock. It could be fun, he thinks, for those last remaining moments; to see Dazai truly suffer like a human as he dies. What kind of expressions would he make? Would he finally say the words he hides behind his glassy eye and smile?
He gives the heart a gentle squeeze. It flutters feebly in his hand, too damaged for a proper beat.
It's so small, like holding a frightened little mouse. Bloody and messy and yet somehow still alive, despite the treatment it has gone through. Suffering, in its final moments.
…For a moment, he’s reminded of Dazai, offering a dying man mercy.
He can't fix this. Chuuya has neither the time nor the tools nor the medical expertise to fix this little broken thing in his hand. But he could squeeze. He could grind this heart to dust. He wouldn't have to give it back to Dazai, wouldn't need to wake him. Chuuya knows how painful it is to wake, and Dazai looks so peaceful, in his slumber.
Chuuya could just end it now, granting him the rest he was yearning for all along.
"Do you want to live?", he hears himself ask. And he hears Dazai's response. "I wouldn't go that far. But I want to try. I might not find it. But maybe something out there is worth it." And Chuuya thinks of the spark in his eye, the light catching just so, to make it look like a flame was lit in the stupid bastard's face.
He thinks of Dazai ratting him out, but then standing up for Chuuya, when the sheep tried to drag him away from his goals.
What the hell would Dazai want him to do with this? This was not part of the plan. This is not a responsibility Chuuya should have. Deciding how Dazai dies should be up to people who care about him.
If there even is anyone like that. He's annoying enough to have scared away anyone who might have possibly cared.
Chuuya thinks of the sly smile on his face, and the childish arguments of the stupid bastard in the arcade.
The little heart quivers in his palm, as if freezing. It's so small. A lonely little thing, the motion echoes in the hollow cavern of Chuuya's chest, where only Arahabaki dwells, these days.
What the hell had possessed the bastard to get rid of it anyways? To be given such a gift, and then lock it away, as if he couldn't bear it... what an idiot.
What an impossibly stupid idiot. How can a guy be so smart and yet so stupid?
The stupid little heart fits so perfectly into his palm. So soft and small and fragile. So warm. Like it belongs there.
He sits down in front of Dazai, and stares and stares and stares. The emptiness in his chest burns stronger than ever.
Chuuya gives it a soothing caress.
It shivers in his hand.
"Hey, idiot. You were throwing this away, right?"
Dazai doesn't stir. Of course he doesn't. He can't. Maybe not ever, again.
"Then surely you don't mind if I take it, instead?"
He shouldn't want Dazai's leftovers. He shouldn't want Dazai's life. He should just get up and leave.
And yet. And yet. The fragile little heart, cradled to his chest, dances lightly in his palm. Doing its best not to give up, to keep twitching. The dumb little thing is as stupid as its owner. Go figure.
Chuuya doesn't understand the magic or witchcraft or whatever the fuck is keeping the stupid thing beating long past its expiry date.
But he understands greed and hunger and loneliness and stubbornness and the pain of simply existing.
The little heart is impossibly heavy in his hands. A burden. A choice.
Why must this asshole always force him into making difficult decisions? He would probably laugh at Chuuya if he could see him right now.
He should just let Dazai die. Gods know he deserves it.
Chuuya holds the heavy little heart above his head, stares at it in the dim evening twilight. A droplet of blood glitters and catches the light, still brimming with vibrancy as it falls onto his lips.
It tastes of impossible possibilities.
"Can we?"
The rumbling in his chest gives no discernible answer. It‘s as hungry as ever, but not hostile; that's about as good as it’s bound to get.
And, well. Chuuya is about to feed it.
Slowly but surely, he lowers the bloody heart down to his lips.
It is the softest of kisses, sticky and sweet - if a kiss involved devouring the other party whole. He's careful not to bite, not to damage it even further; and then, straining not to gag, he swallows it whole.
For a long moment, nothing happens as he struggles to breathe past the object stuck in his throat. His lungs burn; his chest burns; his eyes sting as he tries to breathe past the pain of the intrusion.
Then, something shifts - dislodging and easing down and down and down. It settles heavily into his chest, trapped behind his ribcage.
Ba-
Ba-dump.
Badump. Badump. Badump-
The first few palpitations are slow and unsteady, as if the heart doesn't quite know how to beat. Chuuya listens in wonder, bloody hands pressed to his chest, as the little heart beats faster and faster, finding its rhythm deep within him. Beating hard enough to feel through his skin.
When was the last time he felt whole?
Elation floods his body, spreads with every generous heartbeat echoing through his chest. He burns, bright and beautiful, and full, for once.
From the corner of his eye, distracting, ruining Chuuya's fun as always, Dazai stirs. He groans and blinks. "...Chuuya? What just happened?" he asks, a foreign edge of panic in his voice.
Chuuya blinks. How the hell is he supposed to explain what he just did? He doesn’t really get it himself, after all.
