Being high has me saying things like “I like friends” as if it’s some profound relization
Actually I think I do this sober too
I’m glad we’re in agreement
the countermeasure to dehumanisation is not sexualisation. the countermeasure is to treat the other person with respect and dignity actually.
i don't care if you wanna fuck fat people or hairy people or trans people or the elderly or disabled people or whatever. can you treat them like human beings
Evergreen!👇🏾
Race isn’t mentioned in this post, but I’m sure it applies regardless. Take the screenshot in context to both that and the groups mentioned above.
"All bodies are beautiful" yeah sure whatever. You can't control what other people find attractive.
All bodies belong to a person with feelings. Being rude and insulting, or creepy and fetishistic, or infantilizing and pitying in regards to what someone looks like is missing the mark. Treat people like people. Be patient. Be kind. Recognize your own biases and ruthlessly strangle them.
I like to imagine the Zamboni operator at one of these ice rinks is watching Yuri Katsuki and Shane Hollander and Viktor Nikiforov and Ilya Rozanov play their respective sports and goes “if I had a nickel for every time a duo on this rink had a lot of homoerotic tension I’d have two nickels”
And just doesn’t have enough information to complete that thought and goes home. Background character to end all background characters.
don't know a thing about 3d printing!! but one day i'll make a whale skeleton that's small enough to hang from my ceiling like they have at museums and it's going to be sick as hell

“As the Bechdel Test began to creep into the sightline of mainstream movie criticism, it was notable to see the surprise of some male critics that their favorite movies—One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Goodfellas, The Princess Bride, Clerks, the original Star Wars trilogy, the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, and even Tootsie, when you get right down to it—so soundly flunked it. For many women, the reaction was more of a shrug, along with relief that, finally, there was a simple way to help writers and directors step over an embarrassingly low baseline. To be clear, applying the rule isn’t about snatching away the well-earned status of Raging Bull or The Godfather or even This Is Spinal Tap. As Anita Sarkeesian, creator of the Web site Feminist Frequency, noted in a 2009 video about the rule, “It’s not even a sign of whether it’s a feminist movie, or whether it’s a good movie, just that there’s a female presence in it.” The latter point is something that many people fail to grasp when trying to explain away why their favorite movies don’t pass the test (“But Batman is the hero of the movie! Of course the women characters are going to talk about him!”): the Bechdel Test is not a judgment of quality or nuance. After all, the beautiful, moving Gravity fails the test, while a formulaic rom-com like 27 Dresses passes with no problem. But the test itself is a simple, bloodless assessment of whether female characters are deemed important to a story—and a way to conclude that, most of the time, they aren’t.”
— We Were Feminists Once: From Riot Grrrl to CoverGirl®, the Buying and Selling of a Political Movement (Zeisler, Andi)
This makes me happy that it has an explanation, because too many people misunderstand the point of the test. “It sets the bar too low!” They say. That’s the point. It’s the lowest bar possible and many movies can’t pass it.

hell yeah
i dug up the thing buried under Gary Indiana and all i got was this lingering sense of dread
People have been bringing up how Laios probably appreciates Marcille being direct about her emotions. I would like to add my take on what Marcille appreciates about Laios.
Marcille is fucking crazy. Her first solution to any problem is to cast Blow Its Head Off, her second solution if that didnt work is to rocket jump away (Undine) or rocket jump Laios into it (Red Dragon). Laios' reaction to being revived for the first time was being traumatized by and scared of living armor for a while. The first time Marcille gets drowned and comes back her reaction is "holy smokes!! this is just like what i studied in grad school!!! Do you have a spot in your party?" Then theres the infamous "hey Laios, would you mind if I blaspheme against nature by using a dark blood ritual to bring my girlfriend back to life by reconstructing her out of the carcass of the beast that killed her"
And you know what? Laios doesnt go "wtf thats taboo." He goes: "Okay! Lets sort the bones 👍"
Marcille is fucking insane and while she would never admit to it im sure she appreciates the touden sibling for their ability to look past her unhingedness because theyre also unhinged.
Marcille: in order to resurrect Falin we need to sort these bones into categories
Laios: I have trained my entire life for this task
Marcille: we must violate the laws of god and man
Laios: sure, what have the laws of god and man done for me lately
it’s a pretty well-known phenomenon that you only get a couple seconds with your horror creature fully visible onscreen before it gets “chuckied,” a term coined by yours truly referring to the shift between the first and second acts of child’s play (1988) as the audience gets used to seeing the little chucky puppet moving around and consequently can no longer buy into the film’s serious slasher tone in the absence of the horror of the unknown. the tuunbaq in the terror and the dogomorph in alien 3 (1992) are also famous victims of chuckying—just like how lovecraftian horror usually falls flat on the screen, too much visibility and your scary, amorphous creature will become a very morphous puppet or cgi’d in picture. the easiest way to combat this is of course to keep the creature obscured for as much of the piece as possible; for instance, despite their oppressive presence throughout their respective works, the beast in over the garden wall is shown for less than six frames and the eponymous kaiju of cloverfield (2008) is never properly shown, allowing each to retain their mystery and danger. another route is to simply lean into the campiness of it, like the later child’s play franchise and alien resurrection (1997). in the case of the blob (1958) a mere satirical title sequence song is enough to completely transform a fairly standard creature feature into an enduring masterpiece of hokey fun. the third option to combat chuckying is for the horror creature to constantly transform—the thing (1982), the fly (1986), and aliens (1986) show their creatures in loving detail, but there is always something the audience hasn’t seen yet, something they don’t know to brace themselves for. it’s a fine line to walk, of course, but that’s the nature of the game when you want to turn the concept of the unknown into something knowable enough to bite you
Been having a great time with books and shows I’ve seen lately

something i adore about hadestown is that it still meant something, y'know what i mean? like okay, no orpheus's song did not convince hades to give up his empire. hades' love for persephone isn't enough to deconstruct the machine he's built and has convinced himself that he needs in order to protect what he has. but he let them go. he saw the love eurydice and orpheus had for one another and it convinced him to let them try. orpheus may have turned around but they still walked, they almost made it. doubt set it but they were right there. that's further than anyone else can say. nobody else had made it that far. who's to say someone else can't make it a few steps further? persephone is able to leave the underworld and go home again when she needs to. spring has come again, if we're lucky autumn just might too. will this change be permanent? we don't know. but it's something. it doesn't knock down the wall but it's one brick out of it. and that means something. it wasn't all for nothing. it's a crack in the wall. there's a reason we keep singing this old song.
something that really stands out to me about dungeon meshi is that its not like its got these really complex and profound themes coyly tucked away behind a bunch of goofy food/cooking motifs. the goofy food/cooking motifs ARE the complex and profound themes, and the real "oh" moment that notoriously hits everyone like a freight train when theyre reading/watching it isnt the realization that theres story here, but the realization that there was story all along. like. dungeon meshi is about food but its also about hunger. its about ecosystems but its also about community. its about the natural cycle of life/death but its also about legacy. its also about izutsumi
idk man sometimes i like it when video game writers are allowed to plan a series of events that happen in a specific order and affect each other in turn to become an overarching narrative, and i don’t mind trusting those writers to take me through those events in the order that is emotionally effective. i don’t really care if a game forces me to go through the forest area first before i can attempt the icy area because maybe there’s things that happen in the forest area that inform later scenes in the icy area. maybe we don't need more superficial player choice open world concepts if it comes at the cost of the ability to write a story with actual significant plot events and character development in each section
